There’s a saying in basketball circles that goes, “Live by the three, die by the three”. For Mekeel Christian Academy it’s simply,”Win with the three”.
The Lions entered Tuesday night’s Class C semifinal game with Cambridge, having connected 128 times from long range. They have four players with 20 or more triples, and two players who have knocked down 40 plus. Their shooting prowess from distance was on full display last night in Cohoes, where Mekeel Christian knocked down seven first half three’s, and 11 on the night, in posting a 55-33 victory over the Indians.
The Lions, who never trailed in this one, jumped out to a 14-6 advantage after the first period, stretched the lead to 29-14 at the half, and rode that cushion through the second half to a comfortable victory and a spot in Saturday’s Class C final where they’ll meet Lake George at 11 a.m. at Hudson Valley Community College.
Mekeel was led by Jessie Show with 21 points, Rebekkah Dean 14, and Lexy Rychcik with 10, the three players also combined for 10 of the 11 makes from downtown.
The Indians of Cambridge fueled by three pairs of sisters on their roster, end a fine season with a 15-8 mark, having enjoyed a quality regular season, and a trip to the Class C semifinals.
