Can Hoosick Falls Find a Way Against the Warriors

It’s not often that a 20-1 team goes into their next game as a substantial underdog, but that’s how many will view the Hoosick Falls Panthers in their Section II class C final Friday night in Glens Falls.

Why?  Three reasons come to mind.

Number one their opponent, the Lake George Warriors, are the defending state champions in the C classification and are unbeaten in their last 50 outings including a 23-0 mark this season.  Their average margin of victory this year is 32 points and the closest game the Warriors have played was a 73-57 affair over Granville at the end of January. Panthers Face Maple Hill in Class C Semifinal

When the Section II boys basketball tournament brackets were posted for Class C, many felt it was a foregone conclusion that the championship game would feature #1 Lake George and #2 Hoosick Falls.  Easy to say but both squads have had to navigate the classification’s minefield, and with Lake George waiting, courtesy of their 69-44 semifinal win over Mayfield last night, the Panthers have one more obstacle to deal with on their journey to the title game.

Tonight at the Cool Insuring Arena the Falls will run with #3 Maple Hill with the winner advancing to the Class C finals on Friday night. Continue reading

Wasaren Teams Hit the Road on a Sectional Tuesday

With the Wasaren girls basketball teams fresh off a Saturday where they won six of seven sectional contests, eight boys squads from the league take the floor Tuesday night in the Section II tournament’s Round of 16 for the B and C classifications.

But unlike the girls who played all but one of the games on their respective home courts, the boys schedule offers a reversal of fortune with seven of the eight Wasaren teams playing on the road.

While playing at home is a nice advantage in the second season, it’s the action on the floor, not the noise from the stands that determine outcomes and with that, here’s why almost all of the Wasaren schools can walk into their opponents venue and post a “W”.   Continue reading
