Sectional Basketball Results; Cambridge Wins a Pair

Six league squads stepped on the floor in play-in runs Friday night as the Section II basketball tournament got underway.  Five boys teams and the Cambridge girls were all hoping to extend their seasons, but only three squads earned wins to advance.

Boys

Cambridge 70  Waterford 38:  The Indians, in control from the jump, built a 39-19 lead at the half and rolled to the Class C play-in victory over Waterford.

Cambridge placed a quartet in doubles with Brendan Holcomb 15 points, Max Ratelle 15 points, Thomas English 11 points, and Shawn Lemeiux 10 points leading the potent attack. Cambridge advances to play in Lake George on Tuesday where they’ll square off with the #4th seeded Warriors.

Kyle Fairclough with 12 points and Bobby Valigorsky with 10 led the Fordians offense.

 

Saratoga Catholic 68  Galway 49:  The Saints held a 24-8 advantage after one, and used that cushion to post the comfortable “W” over Galway in a Class C play-in at Saratoga.

Tyler Haradan scored 20 points and Terel Tillman and Connor Farrington added 18 and 16 points respectively for Spa Catholic who will face #5 Schoharie in opening round action on Tuesday.

Thor White scored a game-high 29 points to pace Galway.

 

Maple Hill 53  Greenwich 46:  The Hilltoppers led 25-21 at the break and used a 17-8 third period to take control in posting the win over the Witches in a Class C play-in at Maple Hill.

Nate Mannion with 17 points, and Garrett Axtmann with 14 points showed the way for the Hilltoppers who advance to play #3 Greenville on Tuesday.

Bailey Winch scored 16 points, including 4 triples to lead the Witches offense.

 

Coxsackie-Athens 56  Tamarac 37:  Coxsackie outscored the Bengals 36-19 in the second half to pull away and notch the “W” in a Class C play-in game.

Isiah Garvey knocked down five 3’s as part of his game-high 24 points to lead Coxsackie who next plays at Glens Falls on Tuesday where they’ll face the #1 seeded Indians.

Brad Schneider and Padriac McGrath with eight points each led the Bengals in scoring.

 

Girls

Cambridge 55  Cairo-Durham 32:  Cambridge, leading 18-17 at the break opened things up with a 18-4 third period and went on to capture the Class C play-in victory over the Mustangs.

Four Indians reached doubles on the night with Hellen Mooney 13 points, Bridley Nolan 12 points, Grace Snyder 12 points, and Sophie Phillips 11 points showing the way for Cambridge offensively.  The Indians move on to play at #1 seeded Mekeel Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Mikaela Phillips scored a game-high 16 points to lead Coxsackie.

Boys Hoops; Warriors, Raiders Win in OT

Close games all around on a boys Tuesday night with a pair of contests decided in overtime.

Stillwater 52  Cambridge 48: Jared D’Aloia dropped 32 points to lead Stillwater to the overtime victory over the Indians.  Stillwater led 26-21 at the half but Cambridge outscored the Warriors 13-2 in the third period to take the lead into the final eight minutes where Stillwater came back to force extra minutes.
