Greenwich Captures Class C Title in the 11th

Greenwich 4   Chatham 3

WP:  Lily McCauliffe 11 IP  3 Runs  4 Hits 14 K’s        Emily Mesick 

Hitting Stars:  Witches – Allie McQueen 2-run HR     Norah Niesz 1B, RBI          Chatham – Addison Perry 2B,       Abby Taylor 3B

Take Away:  The Witches trailed 3-1 entering the seventh but tied things on McQueen’s two-run shot sending the Class C championship into extra frames.  In the top of the eleventh Niesz plated Sophia Boice on an RBI single with the go-ahead run.  In the bottom of the frame Chatham moved Allison Engel to third on a sac bunt, but she was cut down at the plate by shortstop Faith Ingber who fielded a hot shot and came home with the throw.  McCauliffe fanned the final batter and Greenwich (19-4), moves on to the regional final on June 4th in Malta where they’ll face the Section VII-X winner.

Greenwich Moves to the Finals

Hitting Stars:  Witches – Lily McCauliffe 1B, 2B, RBI       

Take Away:  In a pitchers duel between McCauliffe and Gould, the Witches pushed across the lone run of the contest in the top of the seventh on a McCauliffe double that plated Jocelyn Spezio with the game-winner.  Greenwich advances to the Class C title game on Thursday at Moreau in a matchup with top seeded Chatham.

Take Away:  The third-seeded Witches behind a strong outing from McCauliffe advance to the Class C semifinals on Tuesday at Moreau Rec. and a meeting with second-seeded Whitehall.

Take Away:  Gould allowed just three Warriors hits in spinning the shutout, sending the Railroaders to a Class C semifinal matchup with Greenwich on Tuesday.

Take Away:  Jones dominates from the bump, the #6 Panthers bang out 16 hits in four offensive frames, and advance to face #2 Canajoharie in the CC quarterfinals on Friday.

Take Away:  King blanks S/C on four hits and the #9 Valley sealed the win with a four-run seventh, and move on to the CC quarterfinals where they’ll face #1 Chatham on Friday.

Take Away:  In a pitcher’s duel between Brown and Nelson the Horde use their only two hits in the game in the bottom of the eighth when Cody Nelson doubled, and his brother Caleb drove him in with the game-winner, sending the #6 Horde to a CC quarterfinal on Friday with #3 Maple Hill.

Take Away:  In a meeting between division champs from the north and south, Mechanicville, behind a strong outing from Pingelski, clinches the Wasaren title for their third straight baseball championship.  The Raiders finish league play with a 14-2 mark.
