Hoosick Falls Boys Basketball Preview

In basketball circles the Wasaren has long been known as one of the premier small school leagues in the state.  The conference schedule’s a gauntlet run with no nights off, teams knowing if they don’t bring their “A” game they’ll head home with a loss.

That being said the Hoosick Falls Panthers over the last five seasons have simply dominated the league. Winners in 70 of their last 72 league games, including 40 straight have led to five consecutive Wasaren crowns for the Panthers.

A handful of league teams ran the floor on Friday night, the majority playing non-league opponents with the Wasaren schedule set to begin next week.

Leading Scorers:  Indians – Lily Phillips 23      Sophie Phillips 17      Fiona Mooney 13     Seward – Alexa Roach 17     Josely Medina 13

Key Stat:  How about a 31 point quarter in your season-opener.  Back that with an 18 point second period and Cambridge has half a hundred on the board at the half.  Lily Phillips knocks down five triples and 23 points before the break, all leading to Cambridge facing Cooperstown this afternoon in the championship game of the Delaware Academy Tip-Off Tournament.

Take Away:  The Indians are a young squad with three sophomores in the starting lineup. That trio combined for 53 points and 10 made threes, and this team as the season unfolds will only get better.   Continue reading
