In a wild one played at Albany Academy on Sunday the Raiders trailed by as many as 20 points in the third period but stormed back to post the overtime “W” over Schuylerville.

 

Tamarac 65  Spa Catholic 63

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Dalton Maxon 14        Joey Poulin 13        Jonas Rescott 11      Saints – Hayden Day 17         Jordan Catone 16          Robbie Bolen 14

Tamarac led 51-48 heading to the final period and held off the Saints to post the road victory.

 

Girls

The Panthers. playing without an injured Logan Thayne, trailed 18-12 at the break but scored 41 second half points to notch the comeback win.

With the score tied at 34 -34 entering the fourth period the Witches won the final eight minutes to claim the home victory over the Valley.

 

Cambridge 68  Berne-Knox 36

Leading Scorers:  Indians – Fiona Mooney 15        Lilly Phillips 14        Sophie Phillips 13     Knox – Alexis Wright 19

Cambridge outscored their hosts 39-12 over the middle two frames and coasted to the easy “W” in game that saw the Indians drill 12 triples and put nine players in the scoring column.

A 20-3 first period gave the Panthers control, and Thayne posts her second straight 40 point effort.

 

Boys

The Warriors used a 41-27 advantage after the break and put four players in doubles in notching the home win.

The Falls won each of the first three periods building a 54-32 lead heading to the final frame where they closed things out, securing the non-league win over the Patriots from Vermont.

 

Hoosic Valley 75  Maple Hill 74

Leading Scorers:  Indians – Logan Reilly 24        CJ Bassett 18        Tyler Eddy 15       Wildcats – Rian Jewett 26      Dom Hirshoff 20      Blake Decker 20

The Valley bottomed 13 triples and needed every one to post the non-league “W” over the Wildcats of Maple Hill.

 

Ft. Plain 61   Cambridge 46

Leading Scorers:  Ft. Plain – Troy Butler 16       Ethan Reese 12       Indians – Brian Hall 16    Ben Epler 11

Ft. Plain broke open a close game at the half, with a 21-4 third period on their way to the victory over the Indians.  Fort Plain enjoyed a big advantage from the free throw line converting on 18 of 30, while Cambridge was just one of four in the contest.

The Raiders drilled eight triples, built a 41-22 halftime lead and cruised to the “W” over the visitors from Tamarac.

Thayne drop’s 40, while the Panther “D” holds the Mountaineers to single numbers in each of the first three frames.

Stillwater used a 24-11 advantage in the second half to pull away for the victory over the Saints of Spa Catholic.

Cambridge Continues To Roll

It was a perfect storm for the visitors from Cambridge Wednesday night in Schaghticoke.  Over the first eight minutes of play the Lady Indians of the North scored on drives to the rim, jumpers from deep, converted seven of eight from the free throw line, and consistently pounded the offensive glass while defensively turning Hoosic Valley over eight times in the frame.

End result?  A 20-0 run to start things, a 22-4 lead at the end of the quarter, and little doubt the rest of the way regarding the decision that played out as a 54-22 Cambridge victory, their 16th straight to start the season.

Lilly Phillips scored the first seven points of the night for Cambridge on an up and under move, a pair of free throws and a deep triple from the top.

A Fiona Mooney bucket, a 3-ball by Stasia Epler and three free throws by Sophie Phillips stretched the Cambridge lead to 15-0 with 3:18 remianing in the first.

A driving duece by Lilly and a wing triple by Sophie made it 20-0 , before a Sam Lanoue jumper at the 1:19 mark finally got the Valley on the board.

After a two minute dry spell by both squads to start the second frame, a Ruth Nolan steal and score followed by eight points from Lilly on a pair of deep hits, and a drive to the rack, gave the visitors a 32-6 advantage with 3:05 left in the period.

Triples by Sophie and Jaylyn Prouty sandwiched around a Lanoue long ball closed out the quarter as Cambridge took a 38-9 lead into the break.

In the third, after an Ashlyn Chartier score for the Valley, Cambridge went on a 13-2 spurt with Mooney, Prouty and the Phillips twins all tallying in the run.

Hoosic Valley’s Anna Jensen drilled a three to close the frame leaving the final eight minutes for simply details.

Lilly Phillips with 22 points led all scorers on the night with Sophie adding 11 for the 16-0 Indians who continue their roll through the regular season in dominant fashion.

Jensen’s seven points led the way for the Valley who have 10 wins on the season, but on this night were put to bed early by Cambridge.

The Raiders jumped out to a 36-16 halftime lead and cruised to the easy “W” over the Bengals.

In a close game throughout, Waterford used a 21 of 27 night from the free throw line to get past the visitors from Greenwich.

A 20-4 first frame by the Panthers set the tone as the Falls notched the one-sided decision over Berlin/New Lebanon.

 

Saratoga Catholic 58  Stillwater 49

The Saints led 26-24 at the break and closed things out with a 16-12 final period in posting the victory over the visiting Warriors.

 

Cambridge 43  Hoosic Valley 35

Leading Scorers:  Indians – Nick Murphy 11          Valley – Ethan Caiazza 9

Hoosic Valley took a 32-28 lead into the fourth quarter but Cambridge shut down the Valley attack over the final eight minutes allowing the Indians just three points in the frame, and Cambridge secured the come-from-behind win at home.

 

Witches, Raiders Post Wins

A 22-2 first period for the Witches paved the way to the one-sided, non-league “W” over the Tomahawks in Greenwich, Monday night.

 

Mechanicville 65   Catholic Central 54

Leading Scorers:  Red Raiders – Jade Brown 18      Chloe Goverski 16           Crusaders – Angelena Giuliano 16        Sarah Mattfeld 17

After a low scoring first half that finished with Mechanicville holding an 18-17 lead, the Red Raiders hung 47 points on the board after the break to notch the victory over Catholic Central.

Congratulations to Mechanicville boys basketball player Josh Germain on being named the Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

On Tuesday night in Mechanicville Germain scored 32 points, including four triples, in the Red Raiders 89-81 win over the Saints of Saratoga Catholic.

Two nights later in a defensive battle with neighboring rival Stillwater, Josh led all scorers netting 12 points with a pair of 3-pointers in Mechanicville’s 48-39 victory over the Warriors.

Congratulations to Josh, our newest Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

 

Saints Win, Indians Fall in Non-league Runs

Saratoga Catholic 65   Canajoharie 54  (Saturday)

Leading Scorers:  Saints – Hayden Day 19       Jordan Catone 19           Canjo – Marcus Johnson 18       Derek Hyney 15

The Saints trailed 28-27 at the break but gained the lead in the third period and used a 21-14 advantage in the fourth to close out the “W” over Canjo.

 

Berne-Knox 74   Hoosic Valley 55

Leading Scorers:  BK – Zeke Pulliam 26        Zack Brink 20        Mark Edwards 17      Valley – CJ Bassett 19       Logan Reilly 10

Berne-Knox outscored the Indians 37-26 after the break to pull away and record the non-league win in a game played Saturday night at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.

Tamarac built a 27-18 lead by halftime and closed things out for the win, using a productive night at the line where the Bengals converted on 19 of 31 attempts.

The Panthers held Tamarac to single numbers in each of the first two frames and led 34-18 at the break.  Williams and Kempf combine for 49 points on a night where just four Panthers scored.

 

Hoosic Valley 81  Berlin/New Lebanon 39

Leading Scorers:  Indians – CJ Bassett 22        Logan Reilly 19        Nolan Rafferty 12       Mountaineers – Malachi Ritter 11        Shawn Pawlows 11

The Valley won every quarter, bottomed eight triples and coasted to the home victory over the Mountaineers.

 

Greenwich 62   Cambridge 42

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Jesse Kuzmich 20        Alex Cirtis 17        Sam Howard 14    Indians – Jeff Burke 13        Ben Epler 10

Greenwich connected fourteen times from beyond the arc, ran out to a 38-20 halftime advantage and posted the comfortable home “W” over the Indians.

 

Saratoga Catholic 69  Waterford 64

Leading Scorers:  Saints – Ryan McCarroll 22        Jordan Catone 20        Hayden Day 15     Fordians – Michael Talavera 23         TJ Kelley 18

The Fordians led 38-35 at the half but Spa Catholic took the lead with a 20-14 third period and held off Waterford for the victory in Saratoga.
