Stillwater took a 1-0 lead into the break and used three second-half goals to post the season-opening shutout over Bolton-Warrensburg.

Elliott Patenaude tallied midway through the first half giving the warriors a 1-0 advantage, before defensive units for both squads took control resulting in 50 minutes of scoreless soccer.

Stillwater however ended the dry spell in dominant fashion scoring three second-half goals in a nine-minute span.

Sofia Perniciaro started the onslaught, finding the range at the 70:29 mark, four minutes later Brooke Hodgson connected and Patenaude wrapped the scoring blitz with her second goal of the match at 79:03.

Warrior keepers Miranda Price with two saves and Charisma Salecker combined with the Stillwater defense for the shutout while Bolton-Warrensburg keeper Hope Sherman turned back 14 shots in the contest.

Mechanicville 6   Scotia-Glenville 1

Mechanicville took control with three first-half strikes and doubled down with three more after intermission to earn the comfortable win in their season-opener. 

The Red Raiders were led in scoring by Tom Wedel and Scotty Lynch with two goals each while Alex Micare and Alex Sharrow both connected on their first varsity goals in the match.

Scotia -Glenville’s score came on a second-half PK by Matt Shraa.

Joe Devito saved six shots in the net for Mechanicville and Trevor Gerke turned back nine shots for the visitors.   

Hoosick Falls 5   Stillwater 0

Aiden Fleming fired a two-under par to lead the Falls past Stillwater in action at the Saratoga Lake Golf Club.

Joining Fleming in the winner’s circle were teammates Dylan Callahan 40, Brady Mann 42, Michael Plusch 48, Jack Shea 52 and Devin Gauthier with a score of 55.

Stillwater scores included Carter Wicheins 39, Logan Pickett 49, Daniel Degrasse-Izzo 54, with Miles Marinello and Julian Peluso carding 55’s.

With the win Hoosick Falls improves to 2-1 on the season.

Cambridge-Salem 4   Hoosic Valley 1

Cambridge-Salem’s Luke MacDougall fired the low round 36 to claim medalist honors in the win over Hoosic Valley.

Mason MacDougall, Blaise Barrett and Brigid Toleman all earned points for Cambridge-Salem with individual match wins.

Hoosic Valley’s Liam Sherman won his match in flight three to claim the point for the visitors from Schaghticoke.  

Hoosic Valley 4   Fort Ann 0

The Hoosic Valley Hawks scored twice in each half and opened their season in style, posting the comfortable road win over the Cardinals of Fort Ann on Tuesday.

The Hawks first goal came when Isaac Wiley found Gabe Coffin with a thru ball and Coffin beat the Cardinal keeper for the 1-0 lead. 

Minutes later Coffin returned the favor to Wiley with the duo working a give and go for a Wiley tally and the 2-0 advantage.

With 12:00 remaining in the match Landon Reilly found the back of the net off a nice find from Connor King and just two minutes later the Valley connected on their final score of the contest when Wiley took a chip pass from Reilly and rang the bell for his second goal of the match.

Hoosic Valley keeper Dem Neary in his first game between the posts saved 10 and combined with the Valley defense for the clean sheet.

Next up for Hoosic Valley is a Friday home game with the Tigers of Hudson Falls in an 11 a.m. start.

Golf

Mechanicville 5   Waterford 0

Mechanicville’s Matthew Salvadore carded the low round of 40 leading the Red Raiders to the sweep of Waterford in action at the Mechanicville Golf Course on Tuesday morning.

Nate Salvadore, Logan Starks, Jack Salvador, Connor Dion and Jacob Pickett all notched individual match win for the 3-0 Red Raider squad.  

Hoosick Falls 5   Cambridge-Salem 0

Ian Fleming fired an even-par 34 to capture medalist honors and his Panther teammates all secured match wins for the shutout over CS at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. 

Earning points for Hoosick Falls were Brady Mann 39, Dylan Callahan 40, Jack Shea 42, and Michael Plusch 42, with Devin Gauthier 46 and Jack Shea 53 rounding out the Panther’s scoring.  

Top scorers for Cambridge/Salem included Luke MacDougal 36, Blaise Barrett 59, Josh Pratt 60 and Kiernan Haskell 61.

With the win the Falls improves to 1-1 on the season while Cambridge/Salem with the loss goes to 2-1 on the year.  

With a week one matchup against Mechanicville-Hoosic Valley just days away, there is great anticipation in Stillwater that the Warriors are poised for another successful fall campaign under head coach Ian Godfrey.  

Coming off a 7-3 season a year ago, the Warriors return a stable of talented core players to the roster on both sides of the ball.

At the heart of the returning vets are six seniors including Jaxon Mueller (RB/OLB), Anthony Cocuzzo (OL/DL), Lukas Lilac (WR/DB), Brody Burdo (TE/OLB), Aidan Martel (OL/DL), and Robert David (OL/DL).

Three juniors in Steven Berry (OL/DL), Matt Lutz (WR/FS), and Raikeem Santana (OL/DL), sophomore Gavin Carson (RB/OLB), and freshmen James Cocozzo (OL/LB) and Joe Morris (OL/LB) round out an experienced group that provides skill and depth to Coach Godfrey and his staff.

Newcomers to watch this season for the Warriors are senior Thomas McDonough (WR/CB), juniors Landen Staie (RB/CB) and Lee Scoville (OL/DL) and sophomores Aidan Callanan (QB/CB) and John Williams (WR/FS).

Playing in a stacked Section II Class D that includes, among others, Greenwich, Lake Goerge-Warrensburg and Cambridge-Salem Stillwater will need all of its talented roster to navigate the scheduled gauntlet this fall.

Coach Godfrey offered these thoughts on the upcoming season.

“We need to stay healthy and continue to focus on each week without looking ahead.”  He continued, ” We have the luxury of bringing back the core group from last season.  With Mueller, Lilac and both Cocozzo’s returning we should be ultra-competitive.  Replacing Colby Paffen at quarterback will be a challenge but sophomore Aidan Callanan has shown promise and has breakaway speed. Section II Class D will be one of the more competitive conferences with each week being a major test.”

When you combine the winning pedigree of the Warriors football program with this year’s depth of experienced talent it’s easy to see why hopes are running high for a special fall season in Stillwater.

Cambridge-Salem 4   Hoosic Valley 1

Luke MacDougal fired a two-over par, 36 to lead C/S past Hoosic Valley on Monday in a Wasaren golf match at the Hoosick Falls Country Club.

Mason MacDougal carded a round of 40 in winning his individual match and Blaise Barrett and Brigid Toleman picked up points as well for Cambridge-Salem who with the victory improve to 2-0 on the season.

Hoosic Valley’s Liam Sherman in his first varsity match earned the Valley point with a win in flight three.

Cambridge 4.5   Waterford .5

Luke MacDougall carded the low round of the day, firing a two-over 36, leading Cambridge to the comfortable win over Waterford in Wasaren play on Friday.

Mason MacDougall, Kiernan Haskell and Blaise Barrett all earned match wins for Cambridge while in flight four Josh Pratt and Waterford’s Jonny Atwood split the point.  

Both teams return to action on Monday with Cambridge hosting Hoosic Valley and Waterford entertaining Greenwich at Fairways of Halfmoon Golf Course.

Mechanicville 3   Hoosick Falls 2

Hoosick Falls junior Aiden Fleming fired an even par 34 to earn medalist honors, but the depth of the Mechanicville squad secured the narrow “W” in action at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Thursday.  

Top scorers for the Red Raiders included Logan Starks 35, Nate Salvadore 39, Matt Salvadore 39, Jack Salvadore 42, Ben Amato 44 and Connor Dion 47, with Starks, Dion, Amato and Matt Salvadore posting match wins.

 Hoosick Falls cards showed Dylan Callahan 41, Brady Mann 42, Jack Shea 42, Michael Plusch 49, and Devin Gauthier 50. 

Next up for Mechanicville is a Monday match with the Warriors of Stillwater at Saratoga Lake Golf Club, while Hoosick Falls will tee it up with Cambridge at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Tuesday.
