Saturday Results; Stillwater, Greenwich Earn Gridiron Wins

Stillwater 13   Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 0

Stillwater pitched the shutout and scored an offensive and defensive touchdown, in the season opening victory over Mechanicville/HV.

Lukas Lilac put the Warriors on the board in the second quarter with a 24-yard touchdown run and a 6-0 lead. 

In the third frame James Cocuzzo scooped up a fumble and ran it in from 10 yards out and with the point after the Warriors held a 13-0 advantage which proved more than enough for the “W”.

Lilac finished with 53 yards on 7 carries, Jaxon Mueller rumbled for 83 yards on 15 totes, and Aidan Callanan rushed for 73 yards carrying 12 times to lead the Stillwater attack. 

 

Greenwich 32   AuSable Valley 0

The Witches rode a strong defensive effort and a solid ground attack in the shutout over AuSable Valley.

Greenwich held their hosts to -6 yards rushing and allowed just 27 passing yards on the afternoon.

Matt Conlin and Ryan Ingber both ran for two scores leading the Greenwich ground game.  Conlin finished with 103 yards on 18 carries while Ingber ran for 82 yards on 7 carries.  

Ingber completed 3 of 5 passes for 55 yards, with all throws going to Joe Skiff.

 

Delhi 44   Cambridge/Salem 33

Delhi gained 465 total yards and saw three players rush for 100-yards in the win over Cambridge/Salem.

The Bulldogs led 14-7 at the quarter break and 28-14 at halftime, riding the rushing trio of Sam Davis 176 yards, Adam Cook 129 yards and Noah Dungan 108 yards to the season opening victory.

Brayton Cary led Cambridge/Salem with 198 rushing yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. 

C/S quarterback Stephen Yakubec completed 10 of 18 passes for 178 yards with scoring strikes to Brice Burr, Preston Peabody and Baxter Mattson.

 

Girls Soccer

Stillwater 3   Maple Hill 1

In a 1-1 game at the break, Stillwater connected on a pair of second-half goals to get past Maple Hill on Saturday in Stillwater.

The Warriors struck first when Brooke Cook finished off a Brooke Hodgson feed at the 14:48 mark for the 1-0 Stillwater lead. 

Twenty minutes later Maple Hill’s Eva Hirschoff tallied to knot he match at 1-1.

After the break Hodgson found Elliot Patenaude who found the back of the net giving Stillwater the 2-1 advantage, and with 15 minutes remaining in the contest Karissa Mitchell split the posts giving the Warriors a two-goal cushion and Stillwater closed things out for their second win in as many outings.
