Mechanicville built a 2-1 halftime lead, added an insurance goal after the break and closed things out, clinching the Section II Class B boys soccer championship in Queensbury on Saturday.
Ethan Raucci led the way with a pair of goals while Scotty Lynch added a single tally for Mechanicville who move to 17-1-1 on the year and advance into state regional play.
Waterford 2 Maple Hill 1
Josh Catanzarita connected on a penalty kick with 3:42 remaining in regulation which proved to be the game winner and Waterford wears the Section II Class C boys soccer crown.
Maple Hill took the lead on a Jay Fitzsimmons tally in the 13th minute and held the advantage until Waterford’s Matt Soden lofted a high arching shot that found the net with 29:00 remaining in the contest, knotting the score at 1-1.
Cantanzarita converted on the PK, going top, middle and the Waterford defense made the slim lead stand and the Fordians celebrated their 13th section II soccer title in program history.
Waterford (17-2-1) now set’s their sights on regional play next week.
Stillwater 3 Maple Hill 0
After a scoreless first half, Stillwater took control with three, second half scoring strikes and lockdown defense to earn the Class C semifinal win over Maple Hill on Saturday in Mechanicville.
Soon after the break Elliott Patenaude finished a Brooke Coon find giving Stillwater the 1-0 lead.
Midway through the half Stillwater scored a pair of goals two minutes apart, the first coming on a Brooke Hodgson tally off a Patenaude feed, and the second an unassisted strike from Bridget Coon giving Stillwater the 3-0 advantage that they rode to the final horn.
Stillwater keepers Miranda Price and Charisma Salecker combined for eight saves and with the Stillwater defense for their fourth straight shutout.
#2 Stillwater advances to the C final on Wednesday at Mechanicville where they’ll face the top seeded Fordians of Waterford in a 7 p.m. start.
Waterford 9 Chatham 1
In a game that was tight for much of the first half, Waterford took control with a flurry just before and after the halftime break and posted the one-sided decision in the Class C semifinal on Saturday in Mechanicville.
Leading 2-0 with 12:00 left in the first half, Payton Galuski took a loose ball, carried it and connected from 25 yards out, and six minutes later Galuski doubled down with a rocket from 30 yards out and the 4-0 lead.
With 1:00 remaining until the break, Imani Bloomfield lofted a shot from just inside the left sideline that found net giving Waterford a 5-0 lead heading into intermission.
Shortly after the break the Fordians put the game away scoring three times in a five-minute span on tallies from Mia O’Brien, and Addy and Payton Galuski for an 8-0 advantage that they rode to the “W”.
The win sets up an all Wasaren final in Class C Wednesday night in Mechanicville with Stillwater and Waterford meeting in Mechanicville to play for the soccer crown.
Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 51 Lansingburgh 28
Marcus Robinson ran for 252 yards and three TD’s and added a 50-yard touchdown reception leading M/HV to the comfortable victory over Lansingburgh.
Quarterback Jordan Barnes threw for a score and ran for two more, while Nate Hernadez added 62 rushing yards and a touchdown to the M/HV attack.
With the win Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley wraps their regular season with a 6-3 mark.
