On a wet Friday night in Waterford, the weather did little to dampen the offensive firepower of the Fordians who connected on six goals in each half, cruising past Berne-Knox in Class C girls soccer action.

Ten minutes in Cassidy McClement started the scoring onslaught, cleaning up a loose ball in front for the 1-0 lead.  

Four minutes later it was Peyton Galuski carrying her dribble from midfield, weaving her way through and past multiple defenders before drilling a shot past the keeper for a 2-0 advantage.

Mia O’Brien joined the scoring parade midway through the half connecting on a left foot delivery off the right wing that eluded a diving keeper.  

The next two scores came from Peyton Galuski, the first a left-footed rocket from five yards outside the box, while on the second she gained control on the edge of the midfield circle, and with the ball on a string carried it through the Berne-Knox defense before finishing top shelf for the 5-0 Fordian lead.

With three minutes left in the half Izzy Vecchio was left alone and figured why not, letting it go from 40 yards out and finding the net and a 6-0 halftime cushion for the home squad.

Over the second half of play Waterford continued their dominance with three players, Vecchio, McClement and O’Brien all scoring a pair of goals to earn hat tricks in the match, joining Galuski who had rung the bell three times before the break.

With the win the top seeded Fordians advance to the quarterfinals next week.

Mechanicville 9   Cobleskill 0

Mechanicville scored eight times before the break in rolling to the victory over Cobleskill in Class B.

Isabella Raucci, Maddie Hopeck and Marissa Krosky led the attack with two goals each, while Ava Charbonneau, Madison Daley and Gianna Pitts all added single tallies for Mechanicville.

Jordan Barnes threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns to lead M/HV past Gloversville in a high-scoring affair.

Barnes found Nate Hernadez on all three scoring strikes and defensively Hernadez added a pair of interceptions, returning one from 79 yards out for the six. 

Marcus Robinson rushed for 178 yards and two TD’s to lead the Mechanicville / Hoosic Valley ground attack.

M/HV improves to 5-3 on the year with the victory.

Stillwater 64    Helderberg Valley 6

Stillwater scored three touchdowns in each of the first three periods in notching the one-sided decision over Helderberg Valley.

Lukas Lilac led Stillwater with 185 rushing yards and three touchdowns, and Jaxon Mueller added 74 yards on nine carries with three scores as well.

Defensively Will Wagner returned a fumble recovery seven yards for a score while James Cocozzo recorded 10 tackles, three for losses and added a pass breakup to anchor the Stillwater “D”.   

Stillwater goes to 7-1 on the season with the win.  

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 40   Whitehall/Granville 0

Andrew Sparks ran for 163 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats past W/G.

Sam Fauler threw for 138 yards and hit Richie Stifter and Carson Glover with scoring strikes in the road shutout.  

The Wildcats move to 7-1 on the year with the “W”.  

As the fall season enters into sectional play and slowly draws to a close, I want to thank everyone for consuming our content on Wasaren Sportsnet. Josh Catanzarita with a four-goal outing led the Fordians past Schoharie in round one of the Class C boys soccer tournament Thursday night in Waterford.

Tristan Carutasu added a pair of goals and four assists, while Logan Sheehan and Nate Griner connected on scoring strikes as well. 

Logan Kelley with 14 saves combined with the Fordian defense for the clean sheet.

With the win Waterford advances to a quarterfinal match, Monday night, with Bolton/Warrensburg at Fordian Stadium in a 7 p.m. start.

Stillwater 3   Corinth 2   

Stillwater posts a come-from -behind “W” in Class C, first round action.

Ben Rubinstein finished with a goal and a pair of assists for Stillwater, with David Scharchelli connecting early in the second half on the tying score and Tyrese Julian, off a Rubinstein feed, netting the eventual game-winner with 30 minutes remaining in regulation.

Keeper David Giso Jr. finished with 12 saves for Stillwater who travel to Voorheesville on Monday to face the #2 seeded Blackbirds.

Greenwich 3   Mayfield 0

Brady Clifton, Evan Merrill and Jack Fortier all connected with scoring strikes in the Witches victory over Mayfield in Class C. 

With the win Greenwich moves on and will face top-seeded Maple Hill on Monday.  

Bolton/Warrensburg 4   Hoosic Valley 1

Ben Holcomb’s hat trick led B/W past the Valley in a Class C first round match.

Will Hens added a single tally for Bolton/Warrensburg, while Hoosic Valley’s score came on an own goal by B/W.    

B/W keeper Keith Sonley saved seven shots in the match while Hawks keeper Dem Neary turned back 11 Bolton/Warrensburg attempts.

In Class B Mechanicville saw five players find the back of the net, cruising past Hudson in round one of the Section II soccer tournament.

Marissa Krosky scored a hat trick, Maddie Hopeck and Isabella Raucci both tallied twice and Ava Gaspie and Madison Daley scored single goals to lead the Mechanicville attack.

Keeper Ava Grimmick saved one shot for Mechanicville, combining with the defense for the shutout.

With the win Mechanicville advances to the quarterfinal round where they’ll host Cobleskill on Friday.

Hoosick Falls built a 5-0 lead by halftime and rolled to the opening round win in Class C.

The Panthers will face OESJ on Friday in a 6 p.m. kick-off.

Schoharie scored three times in each half and posted the comfortable opening round “W” over the Valley in Class C action.

Evelyn Messner led the way with a hat trick, while Lily Ballard, Alaina Martina and Kayla Hayes all tallied one time for Schoharie.

Section II soccer brackets were released yesterday and the sixteen Wasaren teams competing in the tournament learned their seeding and first round opponent.   

Highlighting the draw were the Waterford girls with a #1 seed in Class C, and the Mechanicville boys earning the top seed in Class B boys.  

Other highly seeded league squads were the Stillwater girls at #2 in Class C, the Mechanicville girls at #3 in Class B, and the Waterford boys with the #3 seed in Class C.

Gloversville scored four times in each half and pulled away for the road win in action at Saratoga on Monday.

Anna Murphy connected on four goals to lead Gloversville who held a slim 4-3 advantage at the halftime break.

Sydney Caracci’s hat trick and Ava Brown with a single scoring strike led the Saints attack.

Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 34   Cohoes 22

M/HV used a 27-point second frame to build a 34-6 halftime advantage and held off Cohoes late to earn the road win on Saturday.

The visitors QB Jordan Barnes threw for 140 yards with scoring strikes to Marcus Robinson, Colin Richardson and Nate Hernadez to lead the attack. 

Robinson led the ground game for M/HV with 63 yards on seven carries while Hernadez and Barnes added rushing scores.   

Lake George/Warrensburg/Bolton 50   Stillwater 7

Stillwater led briefly in the first period when Jay Gannon connected with Lukas Lilac on a 40-yard TD pass for a 7-6 Stillwater lead.  

But the home squad quickly regained the lead and control building a 36-7 cushion by halftime and cruised to the win.

Ben Sheldon caught a touchdown pass and ran for two more, and quarterback Caden Allen had a running and throwing score to lead LG/W/B who with the victory move to 7-0 on the season.

Mechanicville 3   Voorheesville 1

Tom Wendel connected for a pair of goals, and Scotty Lynch added a single tally to lead Mechanicville past the Blackbirds of Voorheesville on Saturday.

Mechanicville keeper Joey Devito saved seven shots in the home “W” as Mechanicville finishes their regular season with a 14-1-1 mark.  

Cohoes 3   Waterford 2  2 OT

In the third annual Mohawk Cup Match Cohoes earned the victory in extra sessions with a Joe Trudeau tally on a night where Josh Catanzarita broke the Waterford boys scoring record with his 102nd career goal.

Tristan Carutasu added a goal for Waterford in the match while John Bobeck and Luca Grestini added tallies for Cohoes.

Cambridge 4   Hoosic Valley 0

Samantha Crandall scored a hat trick to lead Cambridge past the Hawks of Hoosic Valley on Saturday in Cambridge.

Kelley Sweet added a goal along with a pair of assists for the home squad, and keeper Lexie Pedersen saved two shots in posting the clean sheet.  

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 19   Schuylerville 7

Trailing 7-6 at the half, HF/Tam scored 13 unanswered in the third frame and the Wildcats defense shut the door as the visitors handed the Black Horses their first loss of the season on the turf Friday night in Schuylerville.

The Wildcats took an early 6-0 lead when Sam Fauler found Richie Stifter on a 72-yard scoring strike, but Schuylerville quickly responded and took a 7-6 lead on a Martin Flanders Jr. 4-yard run.

Those would be the last points of the evening for the home squad as the Wildcats “D” took center stage.

But the Black Horses held that advantage into the third period when Fauler connected on his second throwing touchdown of the night, finding Carson Glover with a 28-yard throw and catch giving HF/Tam the lead at 12-7.

With seconds remaining in the period and Schuylerville driving, Stifter scooped a Black Horse fumble and took it to the house on a 93-yard gallop giving the Wildcats a 19-7 cushion and their defense closed things out for the “W”.  

With the HF/Tam win both teams sit at 6-1 on the season.

Eight Fordians rang the bell led by Josh Catanzarita’s six-goal afternoon in Waterford’s one-sided decision over the Saints.

Joining in the scoring onslaught were Logan Sheehan with two goals, and Chris Brown, Matt Soden, Jake Catanzarita, Christian Penk and Zach Kalinowski all connected with single strikes.

With the win Waterford secures a Co-Wasaren League championship with Mechanicville.

The Fordian defense pitched another shutout and eighth-grader Payton Galuski found the back of the net three times to lead Waterford to the home “W” on Friday.

Mia O’Brien scored twice and Cassidy McClement and Izzy Vecchio added single goals in the Fordian victory.  

Waterford keeper Maddy Atwood saved 11 shots including a PK as the Fordians posted their eighth clean sheet in their last 10 outings.
