Soccer Sectional Action: Stillwater, Greenwich Advance to C Semi’s

In a game that was tied 1-1 early, Stillwater scored the last five goals in the match to post a comfortable win in a Class C quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Elliot Patenaude with a hat trick led the way for Stillwater with Brooke Hodgson’s pair of goals and Lucy Rubenstein’s single strike rounding out the scoring.

Stillwater keepers Miranda Price and Ally Liamero combined for two saves in the match.

Top-seeded Stillwater advances to face Schoharie on Saturday in a Class C semifinal at 6 p.m. in Lansingburgh.

Greenwich 7 Bolton 1

Three different Witches tallied twice in Greenwich’s one-sided, Class C quarterfinal victory over Bolton.

Sarah Radovich, Taylor Poovey and Julia Scambelluri all connected on a pair of scoring strikes and Morgan Foster added a single tally to lead the Witches attack.

Greenwich keeper Oliveah Reiszel saved three shots in the win.

The Witches move on in the C’s and will play a Saturday semifinal match with Lake George at 3:30 in Lansingburgh.

Mechanicville Advances to Class B Final

In a 1-1 game at the break, Mechanicville scored the lone goal of the second half, posting the narrow victory over Greenville in a Class B soccer semifinal match on Tuesday.

Ella Grupe for Greenville and Mechanicville’s Madison Daley both connected on first half tallies, and Tanner Eiseman rang the bell with the eventual game winner for Mechanicville.

Mechanicville keeper Ava Grimmick saved four shots in the win.

Mechanicville improves to 17-1-1 on the season and advances to the Class B championship match on Friday, facing Chatham who topped Voorheesville 2-1 in the semi’s and brings an identical 17-1-1 record to the title tilt.

Fordians Move to the C Semi’s

Waterford 4 Cambridge/Salem 1

After a scoreless first half of play, Waterford connected four times after the break and notched the Class C quarterfinal victory over Cambridge/Salem on Monday in Waterford.

Less than two minutes into the second half the Fordians got on the board when Logan Sheehan dribbled through multiple defenders and found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.

Waterford doubled their cushion one minute later on a Blake Guertin tally off a Sheehan find for a 2-0 lead.

Just seconds later Cambridge/Salem Alex Olsen found the range, scoring on a breakaway goal trimming the deficit to 2-1.

At the 50:00-mark Waterford’s Payton Galuski slammed home a penalty kick for a two-score Waterford lead and in the 65th minute Waterford’s Sam Caulkins capped the scoring, connecting on a 35-yard screamer and the Fordians closed things out to advance to the C semifinals.

Mechanicville Posts a Pair of Sectional “W’s”

Leading 2-0 at the break Mechanicville scored four second half goals to pull away and earn the Class B quarterfinal win over C/A on Saturday.

Anna Izzo and Maddie Hopeck led the attack with two goals each, while Tanner Eiseman and Emma Andrews added single tallies for Mechanicville.

Mechanicville keepers Ava Grimmick and Christina Bornt combined with the Mechanicville defense for the clean sheet.

 

Mechanicville 4   Cairo-Durham 0

Mechanicville ran out to a 3-0 advantage by intermission and cruised to the Class B quarterfinal win on Saturday over C/D.

Ethan Raucci with a pair of goals and Cruz Goverski and Declan Charette with a pair of scoring strikes showed the way offensively for Mechanicville.

Mechanicville keeper Mark Pingelski saved eight shots and combined with the Mechanicville defense to post the shutout.  

Friday Night Football

Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 42   Hudson 12

M/HV used their outstanding ground game to roll past Hudson for the road “W” Friday night.  

M/HV ran for 392 yards on 40 carries and four touchdowns.

Jordan Barnes led the way with 132 yards and a score, followed by Marcus 87 yards and a TD, Dimaggio Ferrera 68 yards gained and Jonathan Harris with 43 yards and two scores. 

With the win M/HV moves to 7-1 on the year and secures the #2 in sectional play and will host a home game next Friday with their opponent to be determined.

 

Stillwater 55   Rensselaer 0

Stillwater scored three touchdowns in each of the first two frames, on their way to the one-sided decision over Rensselaer.

Landon Staie and Gavin Carson both rushed for more than 100 yards with Carson adding a pair of scores, while Jon Zazzaro and Nehemiah Costine both rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns.  

Aidan Callanan added a rushing score and a pick-six for Stillwater in the win.  

 

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 41   Broadalbin/Perth 0

HF/T built a 34-0 advantage by halftime and cruised to the win over B/P.

HF/T ran for 245 yards led by Carson Glover with 139 rushing yards and two touchdowns.  

Richie Sifter returned a kickoff 82 yards for a score and added a rushing TD as well.

 

Soccer Sectionals: Waterford Boys, Mechanicville Girls Roll

Waterford 8   Granville 1

Seven different Fordians rang the bell in Waterford’s opening round victory over Granville in Class C play on Thursday night.

Blake Guertin with a pair of scores and Mason Noto, Andrew Brundige, Jake Catanzarita, Logan Sheehan, Connor Belonga and Payton Galuski with single tallies showed the way for the Waterford attack.  

Galuski assisted on three goals, while Belonga dropped a pair of assists in the win.

Waterford advances and will host Cambridge in a quarterfinal match on Monday with a 7 p.m. kickoff slated.  

 

Cambridge/Salem 1   Stillwater 0

C/S scored the lone goal in the match early in the first half when Carson Sartoris finished a rebound in front and the C/S defense made it stand for the opening round decision in Class C action. 

Ethan Adams, Declan Donaldson, Jonah Stevens and Brady Brownell led an outstanding defensive effort for C/S who advance to the quarterfinals and a matchup with second-seeded Waterford on Monday.

 

Mechanicville 6   Albany Academy 0

Top seeded Mechanicville scored three times in each half and posted the comfortable opening round “W” over Albany Academy Thursday night in Class B.

Gianna Pitts led the Mechanicville assault with a hat trick, while Maddie Hopeck, Tanner Eiseman and Arianna Schell all added single scoring strikes in the match.

Mechanicville keeper Ava Grimmick saved three shots and combined with the Mechanicville defense for the clean sheet.

Mechanicville advances to host a quarterfinal match on Saturday at 2 p.m.

 

Greenwich 2   Lake George 0

Sam Palacios and Owen Shannon connected on first half strikes and the Witches defense pitched a shutout in a first round Class C victory over Lake George.

Greenwich keeper Jack Scieszka saved five shots in the win and with the Witches defense recorded their seventh shutout of the season for Greenwich.  

The Witches move on to a Class C quarterfinal with top-seeded Loudonville Christian on Monday at 7 p.m. in Lansingburgh.

 

Schuylerville 3   Tamarac 0

In a scoreless game at the break, the Black Horses split the posts three times in the second half to pull away from Tamarac in a Class B opening round match on Thursday.

Makenna DeLessio with a pair of goals and Lilly DeLessio with a single tally led the Schuylerville attack, sending the sixth seeded Black Horses to a quarterfinal matchup, on the road this Saturday at 2 p.m. with #2 Chatham.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Soccer Sectional Results: Panthers, Bengals Falls in Class B

Johnstown scored a goal in each half and the Sir Bills defense did the rest in an opening round victory over Tamarac in Class B sectional play.

Gabe Lodestro and Danny Brown connected on scoring strikes for the 6th seeded Sir Bills who advance to face #3 Greenville on Saturday.

#4 Cobleskill advances to face #4 Schuylerville on Saturday in a Class B quarterfinal match.    

Mechanicville Places Second in Golf Sectionals: Starks Earn’s Medalist Honors

In the Class C/D, Section II golf sectionals on Tuesday at Fairways of Halfmoon Mechanicville’s Logan Starks fired the low round of 78, leading Mechanicville to a second-place finish, just two strokes behind the winning Schuylerville squad.

In a format where each team sends four golfers to compete with the lowest three scores used to determine team score, Mechanicville finished tied with Voorheesville at +39 (255) but bested the Blackbirds using the scores of the fourth golfers to break the tie.

The top five teams included Schuylerville 253, Mechanicville 255, Voorheesville 255, Hoosick Falls 266, and Cobleskill at 268.

Individually, Starks showed the way with his round of 78 followed by Schuylerville’s Ryken Riper and Voorheesville’s Brady Carrow with 80’s and Hoosick Falls’ Aiden Fleming with a round of 83 who finished in a three-way tie for fourth place.

Wasaren golfers advancing to the ABCD Sectional qualifier next Tuesday at Fairways include Mechanicville’s Logan Starks 78, Matthew Salvadore 87, Nate Salvadore 90, Hoosick Falls’ Aiden Fleming 80, Dylan Callahan 85, and Stillwater’s Logan Pickett with a round of 86. 

Greenwich 3   Hoosic Valley 0

Nursing a one score lead at the break, the Witches put the match away with a pair of second half tallies in earning the home win over the Valley on Tuesday.

Greenwich broke on top late in the first half when Sam Palacios connected off a Wyatt Skiff feed for the 1-0 advantage.

Four minutes into the second half the Witches Brendan McClay found the side of the net on an unassisted tally, giving Greenwich a two-score lead.

Late in the half Hudson Logan capped the scoring finishing a find from Johnny Morency for the third Greenwich goal of the match.  

Witches’ keeper Jack Scieszka saved for shots in the win while Valley keeper Travis Bleakley stopped three shots in the loss.
