Monday Soccer: Mechanicville, Waterford Earn Victories

Mechanicville 2   Burnt Hills 1

In the consolation game of the Mechanicville Fall Classic, the host squad trailed 1-0 after one half of play but connected on a pair of second half scoring strikes to post the come-from-behind “W” over Burnt Hills.

Ethan Raucci scored the equalizer, and Scotty Lynch found the range with the eventual game-winner for Mechanicville.

Mechanicville keeper Mark Pingelski saved 3 shots in the win, while Burnt Hills keeper Adan Yerina turned away five shots in the loss.

 

Waterford 6   Corinth 0

In the championship game of the Columbus Day Tournament, Waterford, nursing a 1-0 lead at the break, exploded for five, second half scores to pull away from Corinth and earn the victory.

Payton Galuski gave the Fordians a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, finishing a Mason Noto find and Waterford took that advantage into the halftime break.

After intermission Waterford took control connecting on three goals in a three-minute span.  

In the 50th minute it was Connor Belonga finding the back of the net off a Logan Sheehan feed, one minute later Belonga doubled down, this time off a thru pass from Galuski. and just two minutes later Mason Noto capped the scoring flurry, cleaning up a rebound on the goal line for a 4-0 Fordian lead.

Sam Caulkins joined the party in the 61st minute with a header off a Galuski corner kick, and Blake Guertin closed out the night’s scoring for Waterford with an unassisted tally in the 65th minute.

Fordian keeper Logan Kelly saved six shots and with the Waterford defense posted the clean sheet. 

 

Coxsackie-Athens 8   Hoosick Falls 0

Coxsackie-Athens scored five times before the break on their way to the home win over the Falls on Monday.

Danielle Deering with a hat trick and Avery Conrad and Payton Slater with a pair of tallies each, led the way for C/A.

Keeper Jasa Cruz saved three shots in the win for C/A, while Falls keepers Lucy Haynes and Chaya Roden combined to save six shots in the loss.

 

 

 

 

Sunday Soccer

Cambridge/Salem 7   Spa Catholic 0

Six different players scored for C/S in the shutout win over the Saints in Salem.  

Tilly Maher with two goals, and Luke LeBlanc. Losh Lafountain. Alex Olsen, Declan Donaldson and Emerson Lopez with single tallies led the C/S attack.   

 

Beekmantown 1   Mechanicville 0

Beekmantown scored the only goal in the match when Rhianna Gilligan connected on a first half strike off a Payton Parliament find and the Beekmantown defense pitched the shutout in the win over Mechanicville in the Eddie Russell Memorial Tournament on Sunday.  

Beekmantown keeper Megan Burdo saved six shots in the game while Mechanicville keeper Ava Grimmick stopped 10 shots in the match.  

Saturday Results

Mechanicville 2 Saranac 1

Gianna Pitts scored a goal in each half, leading Mechanicville to the narrow win over Saranac in the Eddie Russell Memorial Tournament.

Brooke Hansen connected on a second half strike for Saranac.

Mechanicville keeper Ava Grimmick saved four shots in the match while Saranac keeper Addison Castine turned back six attempts in the loss.

Waterford 6 Lake George 0

The Fordians ran out to a five-goal advantage by the break and cruised from there to the win over Lake George in the Columbus Day Tournament in Warterford.

Blake Guertin with a pair of goals and Payton Galuski, Logan Sheehan, Jake Catanzarita and Connor Belonga with single tallies led the Fordian attack.

Waterford keeper Logan Kelley saved four shots and with the Fordian defense posted the clean sheet.

Waterford advances to the championship game on Monday night, facing Corinth in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Fordian Stadium.

Mechanicville 3 Loudonville Christian 3

Mechanicville, trailing in the match came from behind to force overtime where eventually the game was decided on penalty kicks with L/C coming away with the win in the Mechanicville Soccer Classic.

Scotty Lynch scored twice, and Ethan Raucci connected once for Mechanicville, while Ethan Quadrini with a pair of goals and Esiah Bodnaruk with a single strike led L/C offensively.

Mechanicville keeper Mark Pingelski saved eight shots in the game while L/C keeper Liam Deeb turned way 12 Mechanicville attempts in the match.

Friday Night Roundup: Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley, Hoosick Falls/Tamarac Post “W’s”

Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 45   Ichabod Crane 0

On Senior night in Mechanicville the host squad quickly erased any thoughts of a Crane upset, running out to a commanding 39-0 advantage at the break and cruising to the one-sided “W” to remain unbeaten at 6-0 on the year.

 Mechanicville’s stellar ground game showed the way with Marcus Robinson 9 rushes, 68 yards and a touchdown, DiMaggio Ferrara 5 rushes 67 yards two scores, Jordan Barnes 4 rushes 108 yards two touchdowns and Jon Harris with 7 rushes, 27 yards and a TD doing damage throughout.  

The win sets up a showdown with undefeated Glens Falls next Friday night in Glens Falls with the winner earning the Class B North title. 

 

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 32   Scotia/Glenville 14

HF/Tam used a balanced offensive attack throwing for 178 yards and rushing for 150 yards more in the road win over Scotia.

Wildcat quarterback Sam Fauler completed 10 of 18 attempts for 178 yards and three touchdowns.

Riche Stifter led the HF/Tam receiving corp. with 116 yards on seven catches, two for touchdowns including a 39-yard connection with Fauler. 

Fauler and Carson Glover combined for more than 100 rushing yards to lead the Wildcat ground attack.  

With the win HF/Tam improves to 4-2 on the season.

 

Hoosick Falls 4   Hoosic Valley 3

In a game that was tight throughout, the Panthers Lionna Zwinge connected in the 75th minute with the eventual game-winner lifting the Falls to the home win over the Valley on Friday night.

The game was tied 2-2 at the break with the Valley’s Kaleigh Knickerbocker and Hannah Coffin tallying for the visitors and the Falls’ Emma Waugh hitting on a pair of goals for the host squad.

After the break Hoosick Falls took the in 3-2 lead on Waugh’s third goal of the match before the Hawks knotted things on Coffin’s second scoring strike, that coming in the 70th minute, setting up the deciding score from Zwinge. 

 

Greenwich 3   Tamarac 0

The Witches used a pair of goals from Taylor Poovey, a single scoring strike by Eliza McQueen and a shutout performance by the Greenwich defense to earn the win over the Bengals.

 

Stillwater 1   Lake George 0

In a scoreless game at the break, Stillwater connected on the lone goal of the match when Brooke Coon finished an Ashley Coffey find, which proved just enough for Stillwater in the nonleague win over Lake George.  

Stillwater keepers Miranda Price and Ally Liamero combined for three saves and with the Stillwater defense for the clean sheet.

Lake George keeper Addison Reinhold saved 10 shots in defeat.  

 

Waterford 2   Cambridge 1

The Fordians used a pair of goals by Mia O’Brien and a single tally from Bayly Beauregard to get past Cambridge for the road “W”.  

Natali Wood connected on a second half strike for Cambridge in a match where the visitors held a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Waterford keeper Isabella Ramundo saved eight shots in the game, while Cambridge keeper Lexi Pedersen turned back 28 Fordian attempts.

 

 

 

 

 

Mechanicville Captures League Championship

In the Wasaren golf league tournament held on Thursday at the Saratoga Spa State Park golf course, Mechanicville edged Hoosick Falls to earn the conference championship.

All schools from the league sent four golfers to compete with everyone playing a round of 18 holes with the top three rounds for each team tabulated for the team’s total score.

When the dust settled it was Mechanicville on top with a score of 229, followed by Hoosick Falls with a tally of 232, Spa Catholic at 250 and Greenwich rounding out the top four at 251.

Individually the Falls Aiden Fleming carded the low round of 73, one shot in front of Mechanicville’s Logan Starks at 74, with Starks teammate Jack Salvadore firing a round of 75.

 

 

 

Boys Soccer: Mechanicville, Waterford, Witches, Valley Earn “W’s”

On Senior Night in Mechanicville the home squad continued to roll with six different players finding the back of the net in the comfortable win over the Bengals.

Cruz Goverski and Rece Dyer both scored twice while Ethan Raucci, Scotty Lynch, Logan Starks and Jack Salvadore all added single goals for Mechanicville.

Anthony Gardner and Jack Kizza tallied for Tamarac in the loss.

 

Waterford 7   Stillwater 0

Payton Galuski with three goals and a pair of assists led the Fordians to the home win over the visitors from Stillwater.

Mason Noto added a pair of goals and Blake Guertin and Connor Belonga connected on single tallies for Waterford.

Logan Kelley saved two shots and combined with the Fordian defense for the clean sheet.

 

Greenwich 10   Spa Catholic 0

Eight Witches connected on scoring strikes in the one-sided decision in Greenwich on Senior Night.

Owen Shannon and Mason Foster led the Witches scoring parade with two goals each with Brady Clifton, Sam Palacios, Wyatt Skiff, Hudson Logan, Garrett Heath and Brenden McClay all splitting the posts once in the match.  

Greenwich held a 21-0 advantage in shots on goal in the contest.

 

Hoosic Valley 1   Berlin/New Lebanon 0   2OT

With a scoreless tie looming, the Valley’s Austin Brown rang the bell with the game-winner in the second overtime session giving the Hawks the home “W” in Schaghticoke on Thursday.

Mechanicville built a 3-0 lead by halftime and cruised from there to the home victory over the Bengals.

Maddie Hopeck with a hat trick, Gianna Pitts with a pair of goals and Evie Dowd and Tanner Eiseman with single tallies led the Mechanicville attack.

Ava Grimmick needed just one save in the match and with the Mechanicville defense notched the clean sheet.

Mechanicville improves to 12-0-1 on the year with the win.

Cambridge 1   Emma Willard 0

Cambridge scored the only goal in the match when Natalie Wood connected on a first-half strike off an Emily DeSouza feed and the Cambridge defense made it stand for the road win over the Jesters.

Cambridge keeper Lexie Pedersen saved 12 shots in posting the shutout, and Jester keeper Ella Wang saved six shots in the loss.

 

Hoosic Valley 3   Berlin/New Lebanon 1

The Valley parlayed single scoring strikes from Hannah Coffin, Sophia Akin and Hayley Valsic into the home win over B/NL on Senior Night in Schaghticoke.

Kaylee Smith, Bella Jones and Sammy Gratton assisted on the scores in the match for the Lady Hawks.  

Hayley Jones scored the lone goal for B/NL.

 

Tuesday Results

Waterford 3   Cambridge/Salem 1

In a 1-1 game at the break, the visitors from Waterford connected for a pair of second half goals to pull away and notch the road win in Cambridge.

The Fordians first strike came in the fourteenth minute on a Sam Caulkins header off a corner kick giving Waterford the 1-0 edge.

But midway through the half C/S responded when Rowan Ossont ripped a shot from 30 yards out that found the side netting, pulling the host squad even at 1-1.

After the break Waterford wasted little time taking the lead back just one minute in on a Payton Galuski tally off a Logan Sheehan find for the 2-1 advantage.

With 10 minutes remaining the Fordians final score came off Caulkins second header of the match this time off a Galuski corner and Waterford closed things out for the victory.

Fordian keeper Logan Kelly saved six shots in the match while C/S keeper Alex Olsen saved nine.

Mechanicville scored seven times in the first half on their way to the easy win over B/NL.

Scotty Lynch scored a hat trick while Ethan Raucci and Declan Charette both tallied twice in the match and Cruz Goverski, Brady O’Connor and Charlie Weiss all added single scoring strikes in the contest.

Mechanicville keeper Mark Pingelski saved two shots and combined with the Mechanicville defense for the shutout.

 

Hoosick Falls 4.5   Hoosic Valley .5

Aidan Fleming led all golfers with a one-under par round of 33, leading the Panthers past the Valley in action at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Monday.

Hoosic Valley scores included Keegan Antolick 46, Ryan Morrissey 48, Tyler Lee 51, Chris Tracy 54, and Jackson Schram and Craig D’Avella with rounds of 57.

Hoosick Falls scores included Spencer Tate 36, Jack Shea 38, Devin Gauthier 39, Zach Houghton and Quinn Haynes with 44’s, Aidyn DeGraaf 45, Dylan Callahan 47, Brady Mann 48 and Memphis Hathaway with a round of 53.

With the win on Senior Day, Hoosick Falls improves to 12-2 on the season. 

Girls Soccer: Mechanicville, Stillwater Cruise to Victories

Mechanicville scores seven times in the first half of play enroute to the one-sided decision over the Panthers of Hoosick Falls Monday night in Mechanicville.

Maddie Hopeck and Gianna Pitts led the onslaught with hat tricks, while Ava Gaspie, Anna Izzo and Tanner Eiseman all added single tallies.  

With the win Mechanicville moves to 8-0, 11-0-1 on the year.  

 

Stillwater 6   Cambridge 0

Holding a 2-0 lead at the break, Stillwater connected four times after intermission to notch the comfortable home win over Cambridge.

Five different players found the back of the net for the home squad with Ashley Coffey connecting twice and Elliot Patenaude, Brooke Coon, Meredeth Yager and Sofia Perniciaro all scoring single goals.  

Stillwater keepers Miranda Price and Ally Liamero combined with the Stillwater defense to earn the shutout.
