Stillwater 2 Cincinnatus 1

Despite being outshot 13-4 in the match, Stillwater made their opportunities count connecting once in each half, and their defense held off Cincinnatus in a state Class C girls soccer semifinal on Saturday.

Late in the first half Stillwater grabbed a 1-0 advantage when Brooke Coon cleaned up a deflected ball in front, and the game went into the break with the top-ranked Class C team in the state holding the one score lead.

In the 75th minute Stillwater extended their cushion when Brooke Hodgson connected off an Ashley Coffer find for the 2-0 advantage.

But Cincinnatus wouldn’t go quietly, responding 26 seconds later when Payton Landers converted an open look from inside the box cutting the deficit in half at 2-1.

From there Stillwater’s defense, as they have all season-long closed the door sending the 19-1-1 squad onto the Class C championship match on Sunday and a meeting with Section V champ Byren-Bergen.
