Witches Shutout Amsterdam, Mechanicville Tops Tamarac

Greenwich opened their season in style posting a shutout of Class A Amsterdam in a match played in Greenwich on Thursday.

Eliza McQueen put the Witches on the board with an unassisted tally at the 30:58 mark of the first half and that score stood for the remainder of the half.

After the break Emily Gonzalez gave Greenwich a 2-0 advantage when she connected on a direct kick at the 34:05 mark.

With 3:21 remaining in the match McQueen closed out the scoring splitting the posts for her second goal of the afternoon.

Greenwich keeper Oliveah Reiszel saved two shots and combined with the Witches defense for the clean sheet.

Amsterdam keeper Gemmie Rivera, under constant pressure throughout, turned back 17 shots.

Mechanicville 3 Tamarac 2

In a match played at Frear Park on Wednesday Mechanicville’s Matt Salvadore led all golfers with a low round of 41, leading the visitors to the narrow “W” over the Bengals of Tamarac.

Ben Amado and Brody Landy earned points for Mechanicville with match wins, while Nate Smith and Jacob Bieg won their individual matches, notching points for Tamarac.

With the win Mechanicville moves to 4-0 on the season with Tamarac slipping to 0-4 with the loss.
