Boys Soccer: Greenwich Slips Past Mechanicville

The Witches used a goal in each half and a good defensive effort to post the narrow victory over Mechanicville stopping the visitors unbeaten streak in league play at 101 games.  

Just eight minutes in, Greenwich got on the board when Mason Foster found Owen Shannon for the finish and a 1-0 lead, a lead the Witches took into the break.

With 10 minutes remaining in the match Mechanicville’s Aiden Fitzgerald cleaned up a loose ball in front knotting the score at 1-1. 

With time winding down Greenwich’s Noah Speanburg connected on the game-winner who, after his initial shot by was deflected Mechanicville keeper Brady O’Connor, put away his second attempt and the Witches closed out the home “W”.

Greenwich keeper Kack Scieszka saved 13 shots in the victory while O’Connor turned away four attempts for Mechanicville.  

Saratoga Catholic 2   Berlin/New Lebanon 1   OT

Trailing 1-0 at the break the Saints scored single goals in the second half and overtime to pull out the come-from-behind victory over B/NL on Tuesday in Saratoga.

Just two minutes into the match Owen Mendoza scored on a loose ball in front giving B/NL the early, 1-0 lead.  

That score stood until midway through the second half when David Redgrave connected on a scoring strike pulling the Saints even, forcing an extra session to decide the outcome.

Five minutes into overtime Spa’s Zachary Streicher broke through the B/NL defense, carried it and netted the game-winner, giving the Saints their first win of the season.

Cambridge/Salem 2   Hoosick Falls 2

The two squads battled through regulation and two overtime sessions to the 2-2 draw in Hoosick Falls.

C/S’s scores came from Alex Olsen and Heyler Alejandro while Luke Nicholas and Aiden Eckert split the posts for the Falls.

C/S avoided the loss when their keeper Tyler Beadling made a great save on a PK with one minute left in the second overtime.

Waterford 7   Hoosic Valley 1     

The Fordians holding a 3-1 advantage at the break and scored four, unanswered after intermission to pull away for the road win in Schaghticoke.
