After a scoreless first half, Granville connected on the only score of the match 10 minutes after the break when Matt Ruigrok, taking a corner kick, played a short pass to Noah Bernard who fanned it back to Ruigrok who found the upper corner, far side for the eventual game-winner in first round action in Class C.
Golden Horde keeper Ryan Shaw saved 10 shots in the win, while Hoosic Valley goaltender Travis Bleakly stopped six shots in defeat.
Granville will travel to face top-seeded Maple Hill on Thursday.
Germantown 1 Spa Catholic 1 2 OT
In Class D action Germantown and Spa Catholic battled to 1-1 tie after regulation and a pair of overtime sessions and needed penalty kicks to decide things where Germantown prevailed 3-2, earning the first-round victory.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, Spa Catholic knotted the score with 26:00 left in regulation when David Regrave connected on a scoring strike for the Saints.
The two squads battled through the remainder of regulation and overtime and were still deadlocked 2-2 after four rounds of penalty kicks before Germantown came away with the “W”.
