Waterford, Greenwich Roll to Wins in Boys Soccer

Waterford 8   Schoharie 1

Four different Fordians tallied in Waterford’s comfortable 8-1 victory over Schoharie in round one of the Class C Boys Soccer Section II Tournament.

Conner Belonga led the Waterford scoring parade with a hat trick, Payton Galuski and Logan Sheehan both connected twice while Blake Guertin added a single scoring strike in the win.  

Schoharie avoided the shutout when Logan Schrader tallied late.

Waterford keepers Tristan Philo and Henry Chapin combined to save six shots in the win while Schoharie goaltender Alex Ray stopped five shots in the match.

#4 Waterford advance to the quarterfinals and a matchup with #5 Loudonville Christian on Monday in Waterford.

 

Greenwich 6   Stillwater 0

Greenwich built a 4-0 lead by the break and cruised to a shutout “W” over Stillwater in Class C.

The Witches scored a pair of goals in the first six minutes of the match, the first coming on a Christian Morency to Noah Ives connection and minutes later an Owen Shannon corner kick found Morency at the near post for the 2-0 lead.

At the 20-minute mark Wyatt Skiff fed Shannon who finished, extending the Greenwich advantage to 3-0 and the Witches closed the half with their fourth tally when Jonathan Morency found Skiff who found the back of the net.

Ives and Shannon added their second goals of the match after the break to close out the scoring.

#2 Greenwich will host #7 Lake George in a quarterfinal match on Monday in Greenwich.  

 

Coxsackie 3   Hoosick Falls 0

In Class B girls soccer D. Deering with a hat trick led the way in Coxsackie-Athens’ first-round win over the Panthers of Hoosick Falls.
