Mechanicville 2 Broadalbin-Perth 0
Mechanicville entered sectional play dropping three of their last four regular season matches, the squads worst four-game stretch since seemingly the Bush administration. But through three rounds of the Section II Tournament the Raiders are competing more like the teams that put together a 100-game unbeaten streak in Wasaren play.
With a pair of 2-1 wins over Watervliet and Voorheesville in rounds one and two, #3 Mechanicville entered the Class B semifinal against #7 Broadalbin-Perth playing with the confidence of a championship program that has enjoyed extended play-off runs for most seasons in recent memory.
On Tuesday in Waterford, Mechanicville extended this post season streak using goals in each half and a lockdown defensive effort to post the 2-0 victory over B-P.
Graham Murphy connected on scoring strikes before and after the halftime break, and the Mechanicville defense, anchored by keeper Brady O’Connor, kept B-P off the board throughout.
O’Connor had an outstanding game between the posts turning away 12 shots in the match for the clean sheet.
With the win Mechanicville improves to 13-5-1 and moves to the Class B title game on Saturday in Queensbury and a matchup with top-seeded Greenville who sports a 17-2 mark including a 5-0 win over Mechanicville in late September.
