Stillwater/Spa Catholic ran out to a 28-0 lead after the first frame and coasted from there to the home win over the Rams on Friday.

In the first period, St/Spa quarterback Aidan Callanan threw a touchdown pass to Bryce Petersen and twice connected with John Williams for six, while defensively the home squad added a 21-yard fumble return by Ryan Brown and a safety for points.

In the second quarter Callanan scored on a nine-yard run, and Erick Naze joined the scoring parade with a 47-yard TD romp extending the lead to 42-0 at the break.

In the third Callanan and Brown both ran for touchdowns to close out the scoring.

Callanan finished 4-4 for 55 yards through the air while running for 64 yards on five carries.

Brown led the ground attack with 112 yards gained on 12 totes.

Granville Whitehall 22 Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 20

HF/Tam led 20-16 entering the final period but G/Wh scored the lone touchdown in the fourth quarter to post the road win on Friday.

In the first, HF/Tam quarterback Owen Hart sandwiched a four-yard TD run and a 17-yard scoring strike to Avery Whalen around a rushing score by Granville/Whitehall, staking the home team to a 13-8 lead after one.

After a scoreless second period, Hart opened the third frame finding Blake Baldwin from 16 yards out for six, but the visitors quickly responded with their second rushing touchdown of the night and with the two-point conversion trimmed the lead to 20-16.

Gr/Wh shut down the THF/Tam attack in the fourth while scoring the game-winner on a two-yard run to post the come-from-behind victory.

Hart finished the game 7 of 17 through the air for 128 yards while adding 50 rushing yards on nine carries.

Cambridge/Salem 61 Warrensburg/Lake George 0

C/S sored 28, first quarter points and added 27 more in the second frame in rolling past W/LG on Saturday in Cambridge.

The home squad got on the board immediately when Jackson Rowland brought the opening kick-off back 80 yards for the score and the rout was on.

C/S quarterback Stephen Yakubec found Rowland, Preston Peabody and Myles Mattson with first-quarter touchdown strikes for the 29-0 cushion.

C/S added four more TD’s in the second stanza all coming on the ground with Franklin Ziehm scoring twice, Abraham Cushing adding a 39-yard scoring run, and Rowland with a 29-yard run for six.

Cambridge/Salem with the win improves to 6-1 on the year.

Wasaren Soccer: Waterford Boys, Stillwater Girls Post Wins

Waterford 3   Mechanicville 1

Leading 1-0 at the break, Waterford scored twice after intermission and held off Mechanicville for the home “W” under the lights on Thursday night.

The Fordians gained the lead just two minutes in on a Blake Guertin finish off a nice find from Conner Belonga and the 1-0 lead stood thru the remainder of the half.  

Waterford extended their cushion in the first minute of the second half, this time Belonga feeding Jake Catanzarita who split the posts for the 2-0 advantage.  

Mechanicville cut the deficit in half in the 56th minute when Aiden Fitzgerald cleaned up a rebound off the Fordian keeper but just five minutes later Waterford regained their two-goal margin, scoring on a Guertin to Belonga connection and the home squad closed things out from there.  

Waterford keeper Tristan Philo stopped 10 shots in the win while Mechanicville goaltender Brady O’Connor saved 14 in defeat.

 

With the win Waterford finishes the regular season as Co-Wasaren League Champions with Greenwich.  

 

Stillwater 4   Tamarac 0

Stillwater scored a pair of goals in each half in notching the comfortable road win over the Bengals of Tamarac.

Kamaryn VanPelt netted an unassisted tally to start the scoring for Stillwater followed by a Bridget Coon finish off a Maudie Gibeault find for the 2-0 halftime lead.

After the break Stillwater’s Bridget Coon and Emersyn Patenaude added scoring strikes off feeds from Brooke Hodgson and Brooke Coon.

Defensively, Stillwater finishes the regular season by posting their sixth consecutive shutout.   

 

Mechanicville 6   Hoosic Valley 0

Mechanicville ran out to a 5-0 lead by halftime in cruising to the home win over the Valley.

Tanner Eiseman led the Mechanicville attack with a hat trick, while Gianna Pitts added a pair of goals and Emma Andrews a single tally.

Mechanicville keeper Christina Bornt saved three shots in the shutout and Hoosic Valley goaltender Lily Ruepp stopped six shots in the loss.   

With the win Mechanicville clinches the Wasaren League title in Coach Dudas’ 300th career victory at Mechanicville.  

 

Cambridge 1   Hoosick Falls 0    2 OT

An extended afternoon of soccer ended in the second overtime when Natalie Wood found Nora Carroll who found the back of the net giving Cambridge the well-earned home win on Thursday.  

Cambridge keeper Lexie Pedersen, under siege throughout stopped 29 shots in the victory, while Hoosick Falls goaltender Chayah Rhoden turned away nine shots in the match.  

 

 

Boys Soccer: Panthers Slip Past the Saints, Greenwich Tops C/S in OT

Hoosick Falls 3   Spa Catholic 1

The Falls built an early 2-0 advantage and held off the Saints for the home win, under the lights in Hoosick Falls.

Luke Nicholas gave the home squad a 1-0 lead, finishing a find from Max Salvesvold and soon after the Falls extended the cushion when Troy Brown found Aiden Eckert for the Panthers second tally of the match.

Spa Catholic cut the deficit in half when Jack Dowd found the back of the net for the Saints, but with just minutes remaining Nicholas connected for his second score, this time off an Eckert find as Hoosick Falls put away the “W”.  

 

Greenwich 2   Cambridge/Salem 1    2 OT

In a game that needed extra sessions to decide, the Witches Owen Shannon, off a failed clear, went far post in the second overtime giving Greenwich the well-earned victory.

The Witches carried a 1-0 lead into the break off a Noah Ives tally, but in the second half C/S knotted the score on a Jack LaFountain scoring strike, setting up bonus soccer and ultimately Shannon’s game-winner in the regular season finale for both squads.

Hoosick Falls 2   Whitehall 0

The Falls used a pair of second-half goals to notch the road win over the Railroaders on Tuesday.

The Panthers Laney Kasulinious broke a scoreless tie, connecting at the 53:00 mark and Madeline Gallese added an insurance score late in the half.

Hoosick Falls keeper Chayah Rhoden saved five shots in posting the shutout while Whitehall goaltender stopped nine in the loss.

 

Fort Ann 2   Hoosic Valley 1

After a scoreless first half of play, the Valley took a short-lived lead before the Cardinals scored two unanswered goals to earn the road victory.

Hannah Coffin gave the visitors the lead early in the second half but a pair of goals from Olivia Winchell proved just enough to put Fort Ann in the win column.

Valley keeper Lily Ruepp saved nine shots in the match. 

 

Lansingburgh 1   Cambridge 0

Talia Budham connected on a first half scoring strike and the Burgh defense made it stand in the Knights  road “W” over Cambridge on Tuesday.

Lansingburgh keeper Felicity Flack stopped 20 shots in the win while Cambridge keeper Lexie Pedersen saved nine in the loss.  

 

 

Monday Results: Waterford Shut’s Out Chatham

Waterford 4    Chatham 0

The Fordians built a 3-0 halftime advantage and rode that cushion to the win in the championship game of the Waterford Columbus Day Tournament on Monday.

Blake Guertin led the Fordian attack with a hat trick with Logan Sheehan adding a single tally in the victory.

Waterford keeper Tristan Philo saved nine shots and combined with the Fordian defense for the shutout.

Chatham goaltender Mason Hutchinson stopped 13 shots in defeat.

 

Bolton/Warrensburg 5   Cambridge 1

Leding 2-1 at the break B/W took control with three second-half goals to post the nonleague win over Cambridge.

Mailie Kelley connected three times and Olivia Bennett twice to pace the B/W offense.  

Natalie Wood and Vanessa Robinson with single scoring strikes led Cambridge.  

B/W keeper Ella Hens saved nine shots in the victory, while Cambridge goaltender Lexie Pedersen turned back 14 shots in the loss. 

 

 

 

 

Sunday Morning Roundup

Waterford 3 Lake George 0

Waterford scored three times after the break to get past Lake George in the first round of the Waterford Columbus Day Tournament on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half Blake Guertin, at the 56:00 went far post from the top of the 18 for the 1-0 Fordian lead.

Eight minutes later Payton Galuski cashed in on a PK, and Connor Belonga wrapped up the scoring in the 75th minutes, finishing off a corner kick for the 3-0 decision.

Waterford keeper Tristan Philo saved eight shots in earning the shutout, while Lake George goaltender Marty Farrell turned back 19 shots in defeat.

Hoosick Falls 1 Granville 0 OT

The two squads needed overtime to decide things and the Falls did just that when Aiden Eckert found Luke Nicholas who found the back of the net giving the Panthers the home victory over the Golden Horde.

Hoosick Falls freshman keeper Richie Bartholomew combined with the Falls defense to post the shutout.

Saranac 2 Mechanicville 1

Saranac used a pair of second half strikes to get past Mechanicville on Saturday.

Tanner Eiseman scored Mechanicville’s goal in after the break, connecting off a feed from Ella Manning.

Saranac goaltender Addison Castine saved four shots in the win, and Mechanicville keeper Christina Bornt stopped six shots in the loss.

Friday Night Results: Greenwich Rolls Over Stillwater

Greenwich 41   Stillwater/Spa Catholic 6

Leading 20-6 at the break, Greenwich steadily pulled away for the road win in Stillwater Friday night.

In a quiet first period the Witches Keegan Clayton put the only points on the board, scoring on an 8-yard run for a 6-0 Greenwich lead.

Greenwich quarterback Ryan Ingber ran for scores of one and two yards in the second frame, while the Stillwater squad hit on a John Williams to Caleb Vacula 71-yard scoring strike and the two squads went to intermission with Greenwich holding the 20-6 advantage.

The Witches extended their lead to 27-6 on a third quarter touchdown run by Will Weber, and Ingber added a 15-yrd TD pass to Clayton in the final period before Weber closed out the scoring with his second touchdown run of the night.  

Weber finished with 219 rushing yards on 21 carries while Ingber ran for 85 yards and threw for 101 yards on 9 of 15 attempts.

Kayden Bentley led all Greenwich receivers with five receptions for 74 yards.

With the win Greenwich moves to 6-0 on the season while Stillwater/Spa Catholic’s mark with the loss, evens at 3-3.

 

Granville/Whitehall 52   Mechanicville 12

G/W ran out to a 28-0 lead after one quarter and rolled to the road victory under the lights in Mechanicville.

G/W running back Chad Monty with four rushing scores before the break led the visitors to a 40-12 halftime cushion.

Mechanicville got on the board in the second period on a Jordan Barnes eight-yard TD run, but G/W’s Nathan Barber returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for six, followed by Monte’s third score of the night extending the lead to 40-6.

Mechanicville added points at the end of the half when freshman quarterback Blake Geraghty found Dominic Vannucci on a 30-yard touchdown strike.  

G/W tacked on a pair of touchdowns in the third frame and kept Mechanicville out of the end zone the remainder of the night.

Granville/Whitehall moves to 3-2 on the season with the win while Mechanicville slips to 2-4 on the year. 

 

Whitehall 2   Hoosic Valley 1

Whitehall scored a goal in each half and kept the Valley off the board under the final seconds in notching the home win over the Hawks.

Arriya Eggleston led the Railroader attack with a pair of tallies, her second with five minutes left in the match.

The visitors avoided the shutout when Sophia Akin connected off a Kaylee Smith feed with two ticks left on the clock.

 

 

 

 

 

Wasaren Boys Soccer: Hoosick Falls Tops Stillwater, Cambridge/Salem Rolls in Football

Hoosick Falls 4     Stillwater 1

Luke Nicholas scored three times before the break, leading the Falls past Stillwater Thursday afternoon in Hoosick Falls.

Aiden Eckert assisted on two of the strikes by Nicholas who staked the Panthers to a 3-0 lead, and after intermission Trevor Sheldon extended the home squads cushion with his first career varsity goal. 

Stillwater avoided the shutout when Connor Gibson connected late in the second half.

 

Cambridge/Salem 2   Hoosic Valley 1

Hoosic Valley jumped on top with a Tyler Jones, unassisted tally before C/S pulled even on a Rowan Ossont cleanup off a ricochet setting up the game-winner.

It came with five minutes remaining when Luke LeBlanc found Oliver Hickland who finished, giving C/S the well-earned road win in Schaghticoke.

 

Mechanicville 5   Berlin/New Lebanon 0

Mechanicville built a 2-0 lead by intermission and pulled away with three, second half strikes in posting the home win on Senior Night in Mechanicville.  

Alex Shakow and Graham Murphy with two goals apiece and Josh Smith with a single tally led the Mechanicville attack.

Mechanicville keepers Brady O’Connor and Logan Golden both saved one shot in the victory.

 

Greenwich 0   Waterford 0

In a high energy match between two teams with undefeated league records, the defensive units took center stage, pitching shutouts with the game ending in a scoreless draw.

Waterford keeper Tristan Philo and Greenwich goaltender Jack Scieszka were both outstanding between the posts with Philo rejecting seven shots and Scieszka turning away nine in the match.   

 

Cambridge/Salem 57   Rensselaer 8

C/S ran out to a 27-0 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back in notching the one-sided decision over the Rams on Thursday in Rensselaer.

C/S quarterback Stephen Yakubec threw for 172 yards and a touchdown, while the Tigers spread the wealth in the ground game. 

Abraham Cushing and Preston Peabody ran for two touchdowns each with Jackson Rowland and S. Saddlemire adding single rushing scores. for the visitors.

The C/S rushing attack totaled 242 yards in the win as the Tigers move to 5-1 on the year.
