Mechanicville 3 Schuylerville 2
Gianna Pitts connected on three tallies leading the victorious Mechanicville squad to the Class B soccer title, their second in as many years.
Mechanicville took the lead just seven minutes in when Pitts connected on her first goal of the game, only to have Schuylerville answer 12 seconds later on a Vaugh Reilly tally knotting the score at 1-1, a score that stood into the halftime break.
At the 7:11 mark of the second half Mechanicville regained the lead when a Pitts header found the net.
With 18:00 left Pitts split the posts for her third scoring strike of the match giving Mechanicville the two-goal advantage that lasted just one minute as Schuylerville quickly responded when Mia Oshal connected.
But the Mechanicville defense held the Black Horses at bay the rest of the match to seal the “W” and send Mechanicville onto the state regionals on Wednesday where they’ll face Section VII champion Saranac (9-6-2) in regional play.
Greenville 4 Mechanicville 0 Saturday
Top-seeded Greenville used a pair of goals in each half and a lockdown defensive effort in posting the win over Mechanicville to earn the Class B soccer championship.
A pair of Chris Hughes scoring strikes sandwiched around tallies from Beckett Kusich and Alex Ingalls provided more than enough offensively for the Greenville victory.
Mechanicville completes an excellent season finishing with a 13-6-1 mark.
Cambridge-Salem 27 Bethlehem 26 Saturday
C/S quarterback Stephen Yakubec threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another in the cross-over victory over Bethlehem.
Yakubec connected in scoring strikes to Colin Rowland and Myles Mattson, to go with a one-yard touchdown run and Preston Peabody added an interception return for six in the narrow “W” for Cambridge-Salem.
