Mechanicville Tops Saranac in Subregional

Mechanicville 2   Saranac 0

After a scoreless first half of play, Mechanicville used a pair of Tanner Eiseman tallies and a lockdown defensive effort to post the win over Saranac in a Class B subregional match on Wednesday night in Beekmantown.

Early in the second half the Raiders took the lead when Eiseman arched a free kick from the right wing, over the Saranac keeper for the 1-0 advantage.

Later in the half Mechanicville keeper Christina Bornt came up big, snuffing out a scoring chance for Saranac, stopping an open look from point blank range to keep the Raiders in front.

Late in the half Eiseman added the insurance goal, firing a one-hopper from deep that skipped off the keeper’s hands, finding the back of the net.

Mechanicville (16-4), advances to the quarterfinal round on Saturday at Nottingham High School where they’ll face Marcellus (18-2), out of Section III in a 2 p.m. kick-off.
