Schuylerville 42 Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 28
Schuylerville quarterback Ben VanVeghten scored on a pair of rushing touchdowns and threw for two more before the break, staking the Black Horses to a 28-6 halftime lead and Schuylerville held off the Wildcats over the second half to earn the win In a Class C semifinal on Friday.
Over the first two frames VanVeghten scored on runs of 7 and 81 yards and added scoring strikes of 43 and 12 yards, while HF/Tam’s lone touchdown came on an August Lee four-yard run.
But after the break the Wildcats struck first on an Owen Hart 23-yard scoring strike to Ryan Sparks and with the two-point conversion, trimmed the deficit to 28-14.
Schuylerville answered on a Max Montgomery scoring run, but the Wildcats wouldn’t go away, cutting the lead to 34-22 on a Glenn Milliman four-yard TD tote minutes into the fourth quarter.
But once again Schuylerville responded and put the game away on Montgomery’s second touchdown run of the half, this one a 46-yard gallop giving the Black Horses a three-score cushion at 42-22.
With the win Schuylerville advances to the Class C championship game next weekend, while HF/Tamarac closes its year with a 4-5 mark.
