Key Stat:  Stillwater scored 16 unanswered points to finish the second frame.

Take Away:  Trailing 19-12 early in the second period, Stillwater went on a 21-4 run before the half and took a 33-23 advantage into the beak. That lead ballooned to 37-23 in the opening minutes of the third before Marcellus cut into the deficit closing the margin to 41-34 entering the final quarter.

With just under two minutes remaining Stillwater held a tenuous 54-50 lead, but Marcellus would draw no closer as Stillwater hit clutch free throws down the stretch, closing out their state title run with the Class B championship.

Stillwater completes a remarkable season at 27-1 including league, sectional, regional and state championships.  Congratulations to Coach Lilac, his staff, and most importantly the Stillwater players on a historic basketball campaign.

Key Stat:  Stillwater outscored Woodlands 24-10 over the final eight minutes.

Take Away:  The Falcons led 43-40 heading into the final frame, but Stillwater switched defensively to man-to-man, holding Woodlands to 10 points in the quarter, including six minutes without a field goal and earned the come-from-behind “W” in a Class B state semifinal at Cool Insuring Arena on Thursday. 

Stillwater, 26-1, will face Marcellus, 25-1, from Section III in a 5:15 championship tip today at the CIA. 

Stillwater 64   Canton 44

Take Away:  Stillwater held a slim 30-28 lead at the break but used, a big second half, including a 21-10 fourth frame to seal the victory in a Class B regional final at SUNY Potsdam on Saturday.  With the win Stillwater moves to the semifinal round where they’ll face Woodlands of Section I on Thursday at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.  

Stillwater 71   NECS 24

Key Stat:  Stillwater ran out to a 34-3 lead after eight minutes of play.

Take Away:  Stillwater put four players in doubles and ended this one early building a 46-11 halftime advantage on their way to the one-sided decision in a Class B regional at Shenendehowa on Tuesday.  #1 Stillwater advances to a state quarterfinal on Saturday at SUNY Potsdam where they’ll face #4 Canton, a squad Stillwater defeated 83-60 in December.

Leading Scorers:  Albany Academy – Alex Leonard 15, 3 3’s   Bella Vincent 14   Liana Williams 12   Eva Gitto 11        Mechanicville – Tanner Eiseman 9

Key Stat:  Academy held Mechanicville to single scoring numbers in every period.

Take Away:  Albany Academy put four players in doubles, won every quarter and slowly pulled away, earning the win and the Class B championship at HVCC on Saturday.  Mechanicville finishes an excellent season at 18-5 including a trip to the Class B finals. 

Duanesburg 47   Greenwich 34

Leading Scorers:  Duanesburg – Hannah Mulhern 16, 4 3’s   Alison O’Hanlon 12   Alex Moses 11     Witches – Brooke Kuzmich 18, 4 3’s

Key Stat:  A 16-6 first frame gave Duanesburg a double-digit cushion.  

Take Away:  Duanesburg held the explosive Witches attack to single numbers in three of the four periods and did just enough offensively to capture the Class C title on Saturday at HVCC.  Greenwich wraps an outstanding year at 22-1 including a Wasaren championship and a trip to the Class C finals.  

Stillwater 70   Mechanicville 41

Key Stat:  Stillwater took control with a 25-11 third period. 

Take Away:  Stillwater held a 31-25 lead at the break that quickly became a 20-point advantage after a big third quarter, and they closed things out to earn the Section II Class B crown in Glens Falls.  Stillwater moves to 21-1on the year and advances to state regional play, while Mechanicville finishes an excellent season with an 18-6 mark and a trip to the B finals.

Key Stat:  Sweet Sixteen. Mechanicville scored 16 points in every quarter, and I guarantee 016 will be a popular number played in town today.

Take Away:  Mechanicville put three players in doubles and won every period, building a 48-39 lead entering the final frame where they sealed the Class B semifinal “W” sending them to a championship run with neighboring rival and top-seeded Stillwater on Friday at 6:45 at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.

Key Stat:  Stillwater held Fonda to 15 points through the first three periods.

Take Away:  Stillwater, leading 28-13 at the break, put the game away with a 22-2 third frame earning the comfortable semifinal win in Class B and advancing to the championship game on Friday in Glens Falls at 6:45 where they’ll face the winner of tonight’s semifinal between Schuylerville and Mechanicville.   

Greenwich 48   Maple Hill 30

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Adrianna Rojas 15   Brooke Kuzmich 13   Grace Autiello 10, 3 3’s           Wildcats – Rosilee Forrest 10

Key Stat:  Greenwich held the Wildcats to nine, first-half points.   

Take Away:  The Witches built a 27-9 halftime advantage and cruised to the Class C semifinal “W”, advancing to the championship run on Saturday at HVCC.  The top-seeded and undefeated Witches, (22-0), will face #2 Duanesburg in a 1 p.m. tip.    

Maple Hill 54   Hoosic Valley 47

Leading Scorers:  Maple Hill – Brady Cole 18   Nick Novak 11   Dean Chevrier 10         Valley – Chris Jones 15   Isaac Wiley 14, 4 3’s    Landon Reilly 10

Key Stat:  Maple Hill connected on 18 of 30 free throw attempts while Hoosic Valley converted 6 of 8 from the stripe.  

Take Away:  The Valley led 17-6 after the first eight minutes and took a slim 39-37 lead into the final frame where the Wildcats completed the comeback win, advancing to face Duanesburg in the Class C finals on Friday in Glens Falls. 

Hoosic Valley finishes an excellent season at 15-8 including a trip to the Class C semis.
