Mechanicville Girls Advance to the Class B Finals

Take Away:  Tamasi connected from midrange with under 1:00 remaining breaking a 40-40 deadlock and Mechanicville closed out the semifinal win in Class B.  Mechanicville advances to the championship run, facing top-seeded Albany Academy on Saturday at HVCC in a 2:45 tip.

 No other game info at this time but Stillwater completes an outstanding season at 18-5 and a trip to the Class B semifinals.

Key Stat:  Mechanicville converted 16 of 19 free throws.

Take Away:  Trailing 54-53 with 4.1 seconds on the clock, Richardson took an inbounds pass from Joe Devito and pushed it the length of the floor slicing through multiple Hudson defenders and scored at the rim as time expired giving Mechanicville the thrilling Class B quarterfinal victory.   Mechanicville moves on to face #3 Schuylerville in a semifinal run on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Cool Insuring arena.

Stillwater 82   Voorheesville 48

Leading Scorers:  Stillwater – Carter Wicheins 22   Jaxon Mueller 16   Kaelan Leak 14   Lukas Lilac 11   Thomas McDonough 10         Blackbirds – T. Burns 13

Key Stat:  Stillwater outscored the Blackbirds 56-24 over the middle two frames.

Take Away:  Stillwater put five players in doubles and rolled to the quarterfinal win in Class B, moving to the semi’s where they’ll face #5 Fonda at the Cool Insuring Arena.  

Schuylerville 58   Hoosick Falls 51

Leading Scorers:  Black Horses – Ollie Bolduc 22, 3 3’s   Luke Sherman, 19 3 3’s         Panthers – Andrew Sparks 19, 5 3’s   Carson Glover 16

Take Away:  In a close game throughout, Schuylerville took a 39-38 into the final period and used a 19-13 quarter to earn the win in Class B.  

Hoosic Valley Moves to C Semis, Saints Fall

Hoosic Valley 69   Warrensburg 32

Leading Scorers:  Valley – Isaac Wiley 25, 5 3’s   Dem Neary 15, 3 3’s   Gabe Coffin 13, 3 3’s       Burghers – Steve Schloss 15

Key Stat:  The Valley held an 11-3 advantage in made threes.

Take Away: Leading 26-20 at the break, Hoosic Valley turned out the lights with a 24-6 third frame in posting the Class C quarterfinal “W” over Warrensburg. The Valley advances to the semifinal round on Monday at Cool Insuring Arena where they’ll take on top-seeded Maple Hill in a 6:30 p.m. run. 

 

Berne-Knox 67   Spa Catholic 53

Leading Scorers:  BK – Shane Kirker 23, 4 3’s   AJ Wright 15   Blake Shaver 10        Saints – Tyler Hicks 25   Ryan Gillis 12

Key Stat:  Berne-Knox scored 41 points after the break.

Take Away:  Trailing 27-26 at the half, Berne-Knox took the lead in the third period and closed things out with a 23-15 fourth to earn the Class C quarterfinal win.

 

Holy Names 86   Emma Willard 51

Key Stat:  Holy Names won every period.

Take Away:  Holy Names opened with a 24-10 first quarter and slowly pulled away for the victory over the Jesters in Class A quarterfinal action.  

 

 

Greenwich Rolls in Class C Quarterfinal

Greenwich 84   OESJ 17

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Brooke Kuzmich 38, 8 3’s   Adrianna Rojas 16, 14 rebounds, 10 steals   Grace Autiello 14, 4 3’s    

Ket Stat:  Greenwich held OESJ to single scoring numbers in every period.

Take Away:  The Witches put three players in doubles, bottomed 14 triples, and decided this C quarterfinal with a 28-1 second quarter.  With the win top-seeded Greenwich improves to 21-0 on the year and moves to the semifinal round and a matchup with #5 Maple Hill on Monday at Averill Park.  

Mechanicville, Stillwater Move to the Class B Semi’s

Mechanicville 59   Corinth 46

Leading Scorers:  Mechanicville – Lila Christensen 19   Ella Zecca 17, 3 3’s         Riverhawks – Emily Dingman 17   Whitney Cameron 10

Key Stat: Mechanicville doubled up Corinth 20-10 in the first period.

Take Away:  Mechanicville built a 36-23 advantage by halftime and held off the Riverhawks in Class B quarterfinal action on Wednesday.  With the win Mechanicville moves to the semifinal round on Sunday at HVCC where they’ll face #10 Fonda in a 6 p.m. tip.

Stillwater 60   Coxsackie-Athens 50

Leading Scorers:  Stillwater – Miranda Price 25, 4 3’s   Addison Thornton 16, 3 3’s           Coxsackie – Baileigh Briski 24   Riley Sitcer 17

Key Stat:  Stillwater converted 15 of 23 free throw attempts while Coxsackie-Athens was just 4 of 9 from the stripe. 

Take Away:  Stillwater won each on the first three quarters taking a 44-30 lead into the final frame where they closed out the quarterfinal “W” in Class B.  Stillwater will face top-seeded Albany Academy in a semifinal matchup on Sunday at HVCC in a 7:30 run.

Tuesday Hoops: Wasaren Boys Earn Five Wins in Sectional Play

Hoosic Valley 69   Fort Plain 28

Leading Scorers:  Valley – Chris Jones 18   Isaac Wiley 14   Landon Reilly 13   Gabe Coffin 11          Ft. Plain – Keane 11

Key Stat:  Hoosic Valley held their guests to single scoring numbers in each of the last three periods.

Take Away:  Leading 17-15 after the first eight minutes, the Valley used a 16-2 second frame to take control, on their way to the one-sided “W” in Class C.  With the victory the Hawks advance to the quarterfinals on Friday at HVCC and will face #5 Warrensburg.

 

Spa Catholic 78   Middleburgh 50

Leading Scorers:  Saints – Tyler Hicks 27, 5 3’s   Ryan Gillis 12   Hunter Fales 11, 3 3’s         Middleburgh – Mattice 10

Key Stat:  The Saints held a 10-1 advantage in made threes.   

Take Away:  Spa Catholic built a 20-point lead by the break and cruised to the win in the round of 16 in Class C.  The Saints look ahead to the quarters and a matchup with #3 Berne-Knox Westerlo on Friday at Siena College.  

 

Maple Hill 60   Cambridge 49

Leading Scorers:  Wildcats – Brady Cole 13   Nick Novak 13   Jake Fish 10        Cambridge –  Mason MacDougal 14, 4 3’s   Tully Maher 13   Travis Yurshak 12

Key Stat:  Maple Hill used a 24-11 third quarter to regain the lead.

Take Away:  Cambridge, trailing 13-12 after the first, took a 25-18 lead into the break, but the top-seeded Wildcats mounted the second half comeback to avoid the upset in Class C.  Maple Hill advances to face #8 Whitehall on Friday at HVCC.

 

Berne-Knox 72   Greenwich 47

Leading Scorers:  BK – Dayne Coates 20, 3 3’s   Shane Kirker 20   Blake Shaver 11   AJ Wright 10        Witches – Cal Curtis 22, 4 3’s   Ryan Ingber 15

Key Stat:  Berne-Knox won every quarter.

Take Away:  The Bulldogs led 33-21 by halftime and continued to pull away after the break to the win over the Witches in Class C play.  Berne-Knox will face another Wasaren squad in the quarters in a matchup with # 6 Spa Catholic.

 

Mechanicville 92   Johnstown 48

Leading Scorers:  Mechanicville – Austin Rozowicz 21   Colin Richardson 17   Joe Devito 14   Logan Starks 11, 3 3’s         Sir Bills – P. Yetto 12

Key Stat:  Mechanicville led 23-6 at the end of the first frame.

Take Away:  Mechanicville hung 51 first-half points on the board rolling past the Sir Bills in the Class B round of 16.  #7 Mechanicville moves on to the quarters and will face #2 Hudson on Saturday at HVCC. 

 

Hoosick Falls 74   Granville 36

Leading Scorers:  Panthers – Carson Glover 14   Andrew Sparks 11         Golden Horde – Liam Farrell 9

Key Stat:  The Falls took complete control with a 27-7 second period.

Take Away:  The Panthers won every quarter, put 10 players in the scoring column and rolled to the easy victory in Class B action.  #Hoosick Falls advances to play #3 Schuylerville at HVCC on Saturday in the quarterfinal round.  

 

Stillwater 93   Taconic Hills 47

Key Stat:  Stillwater scored 36 points in the second frame led by Wicheins’ 16 in the period.

Take Away:  Holding a slim lead after eight minutes of play, Stillwater outscored the Titans 59-19 over the next two quarters in posting the blowout “W” in Class B.  #1 Stillwater moves to the quarters and a matchup with #9 Voorheesville on Saturday at HVCC.

Take Away:  Stillwater built a 45-22 lead by halftime and cruised to the easy “W” in Class B, advancing to face #5 Coxsackie-Athens on Wednesday at Albany Academy.

Key Stat:  Mechanicville held the Blackbirds to single scoring numbers in each of the first three periods.

Take Away:  Mechanicville held off a fourth quarter run by Voorheesville to earn the win and advance in Class B action.  Mechanicville moves to the quarterfinals where they’ll face #6 Corinth on Wednesday at Greenville.

OESJ 60   Hoosick Falls 47

Key Stat:  OESJ outscored the Falls 38-20 over the middle two frames.

Take Away:  Hoosick Falls owned a 17-11 lead after one period but OESJ caught the Panthers by halftime and took control with a big third quarter on their way to the win in Class B action.

Hadley Luzerne 44   Cambridge 38

Key Stat:  Hadley Luzerne won each of the first three periods.

Take Away: Hadley built a 39-25 advantage entering the final frame and held off a Cambridge rally to notch the win in Class C.

Warrensburg 51   Waterford 41

Leading Scorers:  Warrensburg – Eli York 19    Hope Sherman 16   Madison Goodspeed 10       Fordians – Rachel McOmber 13   Maddy Atwood 12

Key Stat:  Warrensburg outscored the Fordians 21- 9 in the decisive fourth frame.

Take Away:  Waterford took a slim 32-30 advantage into the final eight minutes where the #4 Burghers came back to post the win in Class C.  

Cambridge, Witches, Jesters Advance

Key Stat:  Cambridge held an 8-5 edge in made threes.

Take Away:  Cambridge trailed 41-39 entering the final frame but used a 13-8 fourth to earn the victory in first round Class C action of the Section II tournament. With the win Cambridge moves on to face top-seeded Maple Hill on Tuesday.

Key Stat:  The Witches converted 17 of 24 free throw attempts while Waterford connected on 7 of 13 from the stripe.  

Take Away:  Leading 30-25 at the break, Greenwich expanded their lead to double digits by the end of the third and closed out the Fordians for the home win in Class C.  Greenwich advances to face #3 Berne-Knox on Tuesday.  

 

Emma Willard 64   Cohoes 26

Key Stat:  Emma Willard held Cohoes to single scoring numbers in three of the four frames.

Take Away:  The Jesters ride another huge night from Shields to the one-sided decision over the Tigers in first round, Class A action.  With the win Emma Willard moves on to face #2 Holy Names on Friday.
