Greenwich Girls Earn the Wasaren Crown

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Brooke Kuzmich 18   Adrianna Rojas 14             Mechanicville – Lila Christensen 13

Key Stat:  A 20-11 first frame gave the Witches a working cushion.

Take Away:  In a low-scoring affair Greenwich used a 20-point first period to gain the lead and held off their hosts to earn the Wasaren crown and complete an undefeated regular season.  It’s the Witches third straight league championship including a 45-game unbeaten streak in Wasaren play.  

Hoosick Falls 58   Tamarac 48

Leading Scorers:  Falls – Aiden Fleming 19   Carson Glover – 13        Bengals – Kobe Edmond 23   Adam Rice 14

Key Stat:  The Falls connected on 18 of 21 from the charity stripe.

Take Away:  Trailing 21-20 at the break Hoosick Falls used a big second half to get past Tamarac, notching the road win to finish the regular season at 12-4, 14-6.

Key Stat:  Schalmont won each of the first three quarters.

Take Away:  The Sabres built a 42-30 advantage after three frames and closed out the nonleague win at home.

Key Stat:  Stillwater led 14-0 after the first eight minutes.

Take Away:  Stillwater started fast and cruised the nonleague “W” in Whitehall extending their winning streak to seven while moving to 16-4 on the year.  

Friday Night Hoops: Richardson Joins 1000 Career Points Club

Leading Scorers:  Mechanicville Colin Richardson 20   Cruz Goverski 15, 3 3’s   Joe Devito 14   Austin Rozowicz 11         Cambridge – Travis Yurshak 15

Key Stat:  A 26-12 first period set the tone for Mechanicville.

Take Away:  Mechanicville built a 43-24 lead by halftime and cruised to the road win on a night where Richardson joined the 1000 career points club, the seventh boy in school history to do so.

Key Stat:  The Valley won each of the final three periods.

Take Away:  Trailing 17-11 after the first eight minutes, the visitors from Schaghticoke took a two-point lead into intermission and prevailed in a game that was tight throughout.

Key Stat:  Stillwater held a 9-4 advantage in made threes.

Take Away:  Stillwater took control with a 26-8 first frame and led 70-41 entering the final quarter in notching the home “W” to finish the regular season undefeated in Wasaren play.

Key Stat: The Witches held a 13-3 edge in made triples.

Take Away:  The Witches were never headed, hanging 40 first-half points on the board in posting the comfortable win at home behind a 40-point night from Kuzmich.

Take Away: In a high scoring affair Stillwater, who trailed 36-34 at the break, caught the Jesters in the third frame and closed out the win in the fourth, despite a 45-point effort from Shields.

Key Stat:  The Saints held a 9-3 edge in made threes.

Take Away:  In a game that saw just three players on each side score points, Spa Catholic broke open a tie game at halftime with a 23-12 third period and closed out the home “W” over the Fordians behind a 39-point night from Ryan including nine hits from deep.

Key Stat:  The Falls held Catskill to single scoring numbers in three of the four quarters.

Wednesday Results: Greenwich Slips Past Mechanicville

Key Stat:  Greenwich outscored the visitors 16-4 in the final frame.

Take Away:  The Witches trailed 13-3 after the first eight minutes, trimmed the deficit to 27-26 entering the final period and used a big fourth quarter to earn the “W” in a low scoring affair in Greenwich.  With the win the Witches remain undefeated at 18-0, 11-0 while Mechanicville suffers just their third loss of the season and move to 15-3 on the year.
