Friday Night Hoops

A full slate of action played out in the league Friday night sans one, as the much anticipated girls game between Tamarac and Cambridge was postponed due to slippery floor conditions. That game will be played on Monday at 6 p.m. in Tamarac.

Girls Basketball; Indians, Bengals Stay Perfect

As the 2017-18 basketball schedule approaches it’s midway point two girls teams have yet to be bested, with Tamarac and Cambridge sporting undefeated league marks.  Both posted easy wins Wednesday night, part of a full slate in the Wasaren, but come Friday night one team will suffer their first league loss when the Bengals and Indians get together in Clum’s Corners.

Key Points:  The host Raiders took control early leading 32-18 at the half on their way to the comfortable victory over the Valley on a night where 10 players scored for Mechanicville and nine found their way into the scorebook for Hoosic Valley.   Continue reading

Cambridge Downs Mechanicville, Stays Unbeaten

Cambridge used a 24-5 advantage in the third period to take control, on their way to a 61-46 home victory over Mechanicville Monday night.

Mechanicville held a 25-22 lead at halftime before the Indians big third quarter that Cambridge finished on an 18-0 run.

Lily Phillips scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Indians with Bridey Nolan adding 14 points and Fiona Mooney 11 points for the 8-0 Cambridge squad.

Sammy Pasinella scored 15 points to lead the Raiders who slip to 6-2 on the season with the loss.

Plenty of non-league runs on Wednesday night for Wasaren squads and here’s how they all played out.

Girls

Cambridge 49  Berne Knox 36

Leading Scorers:  Indians – Sophie Phillips 15    Helen Mooney 11    Lily Phillips 10       Berne Knox – Taylor Meachum 14

Keys:  Cambridge raced out to a 30-11 lead at the break and rode that cushion to the win over Berne Knox.  With the victory the Indians  stay perfect on the season at 7-0 overall.   Continue reading

On a night with five Wasaren girls squads in action, Hoosic Valley and Mechanicville handled their business earning non-league wins in holiday tourney play.

Mechanicville 71  St. Dominic 53

Leading Scorers:  Red Raiders – Taylor Grayson 19  (5, 3’s)    Charli Goverski 18     Sammy Pasinella 14           St. Dominic – Buanaguro  22      Goldberg 14

Keys:  Leading 29-21 at the break the Red Raiders put 42 points on the board in the second half to pull away from St. Dominic of Long Island.  Mechanicville shot well from distance bottoming nine triples led by Grayson who knocked back five. Continue reading
