Saturday Recap: Mechanicville, Waterford Earn Wins

Mechanicville 2   Loudonville Christian 1

The Saturday afternoon match in Mechanicville between the Class D Loudonville Christian and Class B Mechanicville with both teams holding the #4 state ranking in their classifications, played out as one would expect.  The match was played primarily in the midfield area with both squads having a few scoring chances.  

Mechanicville was first to capitalize on a scoring opportunity when Tom Wendel was on the money with a cross that found Ethan Raucci who finished for the 1-0 advantage.

That score stood until nine minutes remained in regulation when Ethan Quadrini off a direct kick found the upper corner knotting the score at 1-1.

But the home squad quickly responded with the game-winner, with Mark Pingelski redirected a free kick from Jacob Eiseman that deflected off the L/C keeper for the deciding score.  

Mechanicville keeper Joey Devito saved five shots in the match and L/C goaltender Liam Deeb stopped 10 shots for the Eagles.  

 

Waterford 5   Greenwich 2

In a game played with heavy rain falling at the new turf field in Greenwich, Waterford jumped out to a 3-0 lead and weathered a Greenwich comeback, and the elements to post the “W”.

Six minutes in, Waterford was on the board on a rebound off an Anthony Scunziano corner for the 1-0 advantage.

In the 27th minute Josh Catanzarita connected on a direct kick for the 2-0 Fordian lead.    

Ten minutes later the bothers Catanzarita hooked up when Jake found Josh, off a direct kick and the visitors held a comfortable 3-0 cushion.  

The Witches got on the board before the break when Evan Merrill cleaned up a loose ball in front trimming the lead to 3-1.

Midway through the second half with the rain intensifying, Greenwich drew closer on a Josh Poovey breakaway cutting the deficit to 3-2.

In the 66th minute Tristan Carutasu put away a bobbled ball in front and Waterford regained a two score lead at 4-2.

Minutes later Waterford added an insurance tally when Josh Catanzarita, on a penalty kick, drove a hard shot at the keeper that deflected back and Catanzarita converted the rebound for his third goal of the match. 

Fordian keeper Logan Kelly saved eight shots in the game while two Greenwich keepers combined to save 13 attempts for the Witches.

Friday Night Results: Stillwater Moves to 5-0

Stillwater 20   Canajoharie/Fort Plain 12

Stillwater scored the first 20 points of the game and held off Canjo/Fort Plain the rest of the way, posting the win and moving to 6-0 on the season.  

Jaxon Mueller put Stillwater on the board with a two-yard scoring run, and later in the first, it was Mueller connecting with Thomas McDonough on a 26-yard scoring strike and the home squad led 14-0 heading into the second frame.

Stillwater extended their lead early in the second when Mueller took it in from two yards out and with the point after off the mark, they led 20-0.

C/FP broke through on a 13-yard Cody Hyney to Zach Herget touchdown connection and the two squads took it into the break with Stillwater in front 20-6.

In the third it was Herget scoring on a 12-yard scamper cutting the lead to 20-12.

But those were the last points of the night and Stillwater closed things out for the “W” while handing the Cougars their first loss of the year.

Stillwater running back Lukas Lilac finished with 150 yards on 34 carries, and Mueller gained 26 yards with a throwing and a pair of rushing TD’s, before leaving in the second quarter with a shoulder injury.

Defensively James Cocozzo had a big night for Stillwater with 14 tackles.

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 47    Watervliet/Heatly 6

The Wildcats hung all 47 points on the board before the halftime break in cruising to the home win over Watervliet/Heatly.

HF/Tam spread the wealth in the first period with four players scoring touchdowns.  Carson Glover and Andrew Sparks scored on 20-yard runs, Sam Fauler found Jack Cavanaugh on a 33-yard scoring strike and Richie Stifter returned an interception 22 yards for six completing a 28-0 opening quarter.

The Wildcats added three more scores in the second frame on a 23-yard Sparks TD, a 35-yard touchdown tote from Ryan McMahon and a 1-yard scoring plunge by Connor McNeil giving the home team an insurmountable 47-0 advantage at the break.

With the win HF/Tam improves to 5-1 on the season.

Glens Falls 20   Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 7

The visitors from Glens Falls built a 20-0 lead by the break on three scoring throws from Brody Holcomb to Kellen Driscoll and notched the road win over M/HV.

Marcus Robinson scored on a third quarter 19-yard run for M/HV but the hosts could draw no closer with both defensive units shutting things down for the remainder.

Waterford 5   Cambridge 0

The Fordians ran out to a 3-0 advantage by halftime and coasted to the win at home over Cambridge.

Josh Catanzarita with a hat trick and Logan Sheehan with a pair of scoring strikes led the Waterford attack.

Fordian keeper Logan Kelly, five saves, combined with the Waterford “D” for the shutout while Cambridge keeper Carter Hamilton saved 24 shots in the match.  

Friday Morning Roundup; Hoosick Falls Win Wasaren League Golf Tournament

In action at the Saratoga Spa Golf Course on Thursday the Wasaren League Invitational played out and the Hoosick Falls Panthers came away with the team title compiling a score of 235 just three shots in front of Mechanicville at 238, with Greenwich in third place at 265.

Team scoring is the total of the top three individual scores from each squad.

Tamarac and Stillwater finished tied in fourth place, followed by Cambridge, Spa Catholic, Waterford and Hoosic Valley.

Individually Hoosick Falls Aiden Fleming earned top honors with a round of 71, followed by Mechanicville’s Jack Salvadore at 74 and Cambridge’s Luke MacDonald who carded a round of 76.

Mechanicville 7   Berlin/New Lebanon 0

Tom Wendell led the Mechanicville attack with four goals while Ethan Raucci, Scott Lynch and Rece Dyer all added single tallies in the shutout of the Mountain Lions.

Joey Devit with two saves, and the Mechanicville defense combined for the clean sheet.

Hoosic Valley 2   Harford 1

Isaac Wiley and Landon Simon connected on scoring strikes for the Hawks which was just enough to secure the nonleague “W” over the Tanagers of Hartford in a physical match played on Thursday.

Stillwater 8   Lake George 0

Stillwater found the back of the net four times in each half in coasting to the victory over Lake Goerge.

Seven players found the range for Stillwater led by Brooke Hodgson who connected twice, with Karissa Mitchell, Lucy Rubenstein, Bridget Coon, Mackenzie Hendersen, Mayzie Gibeault and Emmersen Patenaude all adding single strikes.

Waterford 1   Niskayuna 1

Waterford’s Imani Bloomfield and Niskayuna’s Addison Price scored goals as the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie on Thursday.

Fordian keeper Maddy Atwood saved seven shots with Nisky’s Anna Joyce turning back four shots in the match.

Tuesday’s Results; Mechanicville Blanks Tamarac

Mechanicville 5   Tamarac 0

Mechanicville ran out to a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised to the road win over Tamarac.

Rece Dyer connected on a pair of goals while Scott Lynch, Tom Wendel and Ethan Raucci all added single scoring strikes.  

Mechanicville Joey Devito with four saves combined with the defense for the clean sheet.

 

North Warren 5   Spa Catholic 3

In a 2-2 game at the break, North Warren scored three second half goals to notch the win over the Saints.

Lily Warrington led North Warren with two scores, and Hannah Jensen, Addison Swan and Kiera Stoneitsch all tallied once in the match for the visitors. 

Spa Catholic goals came from Allison Fuller, Sydney Carracci, and Addison Quail.

Monday Results; Valley, Waterford Post Wins

Hoosic Valley 4   Hudson Falls 1

On Senior Day in Schaghticoke the Valley eased out to a 1-0 halftime lead and used a big second half to notch the victory over the visitors from Hudson Falls.

The Hawks scored the first goal of the match in the 30th minute when Landon Reilly found Isaac Wiley with a nice chip pass and after the Wiley finish the Valley held a 1-0 advantage. 

After the break the Hawks put things away with a flurry of scores midway through the half.

This time it was Reilly on the receiving end of a Gabe Coffin find, and when his shot hit the back of the net the Valley led 2-0.

Minutes later it was Coffin and Wiley weaving through Hudson Falls’ defenders culminating with a no-look feed from Coffin and Wiley split the posts for the 3-0 cushion.

Hoosic Valley’s final tally came off a cascading corner kick that Coffin, rising above the fray, finished with a header extending the lead to 4-0.

Late in the game Hudson Falls got on the board when Shawn Thompson connected on an arching shot from 30 yards out.

In a game that was suspended due to weather back on September 7th, Hoosic Valley returned to Saratoga and finished off the shutout “W” over the Saints on Sunday.  

Gabe Coffin led the way for the Hawks with three goals, and Isaac Wiley, Landon Reilly, Evan Maloney, Logan Beaudoin, Parker Gela and Mason Speanburg all added single tallies in the victory.

 

Waterford 5   OESJ 3

Payton Galuski’s hat trick showed the way in the Fordians win over OESJ.  

Cassidy McClement and Addy Galuski added scoring strikes in the win, while Waterford keeper Maddy Atwood finished with seven saves.  

 

Sunday Morning Recap: Stillwater Girls, Waterford, Valley Boys Post Wins

Stillwater 1   Galway 0

After a scoreless first half Bridget Coon connected on the only score of the match and the Stillwater defense made it stand, notching the road win in Galway on Saturday.

Coon found the net in the 75th minute while Stillwater keeper Charisma Salecker, with two saves, combined with the defense for the clean sheet.

Waterford 9    Schoharie 0

Six Fordians found the range with scoring strikes in the one-sided decision over Schoharie, Saturday night in Waterford.

Nate Bauer, Anthony Scunziano and Logan Sheehan led the assault with two goals each, while Josh Catanzarita, Chris Brown and Jake Catanzarita all added single tallies.

Waterford keeper Logan Kelly saved seven shots in the match and partnered with the Fordian defense in earning the shutout. 

Hoosic Valley 1   Northville 0

Landon Reilly finished an end line shot off a Gabe Coffin find just before the break, and the Valley defense did the rest in the Hawks “W” in Schaghticoke.

The second half saw a lot of Hoosic Valley possession, but neither squad was able to finish limited scoring opportunities with both defensive units playing well.

Saturday Morning Roundup: Fonda Top’s HF/Tamarac

Fonda 27   Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 12

Keegan Croucher threw for 257 yards and a touchdown leading Fonda past HF/Tamarac on Friday night.

Trailing 6-0 after the first quarter an Andrew Sparks 3-yard TD run pulled the Wildcats even at 6-6.

But Fonda closed the half with 14 unanswered points on a Peyton Webber 1-yard plunge and a 7-yard scoring strike from Croucher to Carson Bulan, and the home squad took a 20-6 lead into the break.

In the third it was Sparks again, this time scoring from six yards out trimming the Fonda advantage to 20-12, but those were the last points of the night for the visitors.

Hoosick Falls /Tamarac won the turnover battle 3-2, and the rushing yards were even between the two teams at 115, with Sparks gaining 72 yards on the ground to lead the Wildcats.

Both squads now see their season mark at 4-1.  

Stillwater 34   Greenwich 16

Trailing 16-14 at the break, Stillwater shut down the Witches attack after intermission and found the end zone three times in posting the home “W”.

Running back Lukas Lilac scored on runs of 2, 4, 22 and 27 yards finishing with 187 yards on 21 carried to lead Stillwater.

Quarterback Jaxon Mueller added 170 yards on 18 carries and found Matt Lutz with a 5-yard touchdown strike in the third period.

Greenwich’s points came on a first quarter 53-yard touchdown connection from Ryan Ingber to Joe Radovech, and a 55-yard TD run in the second frame by Matt Conlin.

With the win Stillwater moves to 5-0 on the year while Greenwich with the loss slips to 2-3.

Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 35   Hudson Falls /Fort Edward 6  

Marcus Robinson rushed for 151 yards on 17 carries with a pair of scores to lead HV/Mechanicville past Hudson Falls/Ft. Edward Friday night in Mechanicville.

M/HV held a 14-0 halftime lead and after a third quarter touchdown by the visitors, the home squad iced the game with 21, fourth quarter points.

Rocco Crivelli, Nate Hernadez and Harold Doty all added rushing scores for Mechanicville/HV while defensively Doty and Austin Rozowicz with interceptions and Robinson with 17 tackles showed the way.  

Hoosick Falls 2   Schoharie 1

Grace Houghton and Alivia Criscione connected on scoring strikes to lead the Falls past Schoharie in a Wasaren/WAC crossover game.  

Tied at 1-1 for most of the second half, Criscione found the back of the net with under two minutes remaining in regulation to give the Panthers the “W”.  

Hoosick Falls 4   Spa Catholic 1

Aiden Fleming fired an even par 36 at the Saratoga Spa Golf Course to claim medalist honors in the Panthers road win over the Saints.

Other top scores for Hoosick Falls include Michael Plusch 41, Dylan Callahan 42, Spencer Tate 50, Deven Gauthier 51 and Jack Shea with a round of 56.

Top scores for Spa Catholic include Jacob Hajos 40, Mark Mahay 49, Cole Cefalu 49, and Jacob Pescetti and John Galarneau with 54’s.

Hoosick Falls improves to 9-3 on the year with three matches remaining in the regular season.  

Friday Morning Recap:Fordians Trounce Bengals, Mechanicville Tops the Valley

Six Fordians scored and keeper Maddy Atwood, (three saves), and the Waterford defense posted a clean sheet for the fifth straight match, in the home victory over the Bengals Thursday night.

Payton Galuski and Cassidy McClement both finished with hat tricks, Addy Galuski, Mia O’Brien and Riley Noto all connected twice, while Alondra Collet-Cruz added a single tally in the route.  

 

Waterford 9   Emma Willard 0     (Wednesday)

Addy Galuski led the Waterford attack finding the net four times in the shutout “W” of Emma Willard on Wednesday. 

Joining the scoring parade for Waterford were Payton Galuski with a pair of goals, and Mia O’Brien , Cassidy McClement and Bayly Beauregard who all connected one time with scoring strikes. 

 

Stillwater 3   South Glens Falls 0

After a scoreless first half Stillwater dominated the action after the break scoring three times while the defense completed the shutout in the non-league win over South High. 

Stillwater Elliot Patenaude ended the scoring drought in the 47th minute, finishing a Brooke Coon feed for the 1-0 advantage.  

In the 72nd minute Sofia Pemiciaro gave Stillwater some breathing room when she found the back of the net off a Karissa Mitchell find, and seven minutes later the same combo doubled down with the final goal of the match.

Stillwater keepers Miranda Price, one save, and Charisma Salecker with a pair of saves combined for the shutout.  

South High’s Elena Kennedey stopped 10 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss.

Nine players scored for Mechanicville in the one-sided decision over Hoosic Valley.

Maddie Hopeck, Anna Izzo, Marissa Krosky and Isabella Raucci all rang the bell twice for the home squad, while Ava Charbonneau, Evie Dowd, Tanner Eiseman, Ava Gaspie, and Gianna Pitts all connected once for Mechanicville.

Will Coreno, Jacob Eiseman, and Ethan Raucci added single tallies for Mechanicville, while keeper Joey Devito needed just two saves in posting the shutout for the home squad.  

With the win Mechanicville moves to 8-1-1 on the season.
