Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley rushed for 326 yards on 44 carries in notching the Class B quarterfinal win over Ravena, Friday night in Mechanicville.
Marcus Robinson, 15 carries, 128 yards, 2 TD’s, DiMaggio Ferrara, 18 carries, 125 yards 1 TD, and Jordan Barnes, 9 carries, 54 yards, 1 TD, led the vaunted M/HV ground game.
AJ Messercola added a 9-yard touchdown reception on a reverse pass from running back Barnes.
M/HV advances to the semifinal round and a road matchup with Ravena next Friday at 7 p.m.
Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 36 Schalmont 6
HF/T ran out to a 28-0 advantage by the break and cruised to the Class B quarterfinal victory over Schalmont Friday night.
Carson Glover ran for 148 yards and two scores, while HF/T quarterback Sam Fauler threw for 97 yards with two passing touchdowns and added a 59-yard TD run to lead the Wildcat attack.
HF/T will face top-seeded Glens Falls next Friday in a semifinal tilt at 7 p.m. in Glens Falls.
Waterford 2 Maple Hill 1
The Fordians rode goals from Connor Belonga and Mason Noto and a strong defensive effort to the Class C semifinal win in boys’ soccer on Friday.
Payton Galuski and Jake Catanzarita assisted on the Waterford tallies while Fordian keeper Logan Kelly saved five shots in the win.
Waterford advances to the Class C title match and a showdown with top seeded Loudonville-Christian next week.
Mechanicville 4 Chatham 2
After a scoreless first half of play the two squads combined for six scores after the break with Mechanicville scoring the decisive final two of the match to secure the girls soccer Class B championship in Stillwater Friday night.
With defense the theme of the match early, Mechanicville’s Gianna Pitts goal in the 44th minute off a Maddie Hopeck find gave Mechanicville the first tally of the contest and a 1-0 advantage.
It was short-lived as less than two minutes later Chatham tied things on an Addy Perry header and in the 51st minute it was Perry again, this time connecting from long range and a 2-1 Chatham lead.
But just four minutes later Pitts slammed home the equalizer off a scrambled play in front, knotting the score at 2-2.
With 3:39 remaining Mechanicville’s Evie Dowd, off an Erin Andrews corner kick, headed home the eventual game-winner and shortly after Pitts connected on an insurance score securing the B crown for Mechanicville.
Mechanicville advances to the state tournament and will face Section VII’s the winner of Northeastern Clinton/Saranac on Tuesday at Niskayuna High School.
