Rick Lyons Staff Writer: Over the holidays most high school basketball teams in an effort to stay sharp over the school break, step out of conference play and run with non league opponents. Monday saw five Wasaren teams in action and it was rough sledding for the league squads, dropping four of the five contests. Here’s a closer look.
Girls Basketball
Hudson 64 Stillwater 56 OT
Leading Scorers: Bluehawks – Jasmine Peck 21 Selena Jones 16 Mykal Walters 13 Warriors – Breanna Sheehan 18 Abby Higgins 17 Danika Svendsen 10
Key Stat: The Bluehawks held a big advantage at the free throw line converting on 20 of 28, while Stillwater was just 7 of 14 from the stripe.
Take Away: Hudson with the win improves to a perfect 7-0 on the season while the Warriors drop to 4-6 with the loss.
Hoosick Falls 66 Canton 55
Leading Scorers: Panthers – Megan Flynn 23 Kelly Pine – 18 Canton – Natalie DiSalvo 23
Key Stat: The Falls ran out to a 20 point cushion leading 39-19 at the break, and cruised to their seventh win in eight tries.
Take Away: Pine and Flynn who combined for 41 points are the highest scoring girls tandem in the league and a nightmare for opponents.
Boys Basketball

Leading Scorers: Cardinals – Tyler Mattison 38 Nick Lehoisky 17 Jeremy Johnson 12 Horde – Trace Bourn 22 Morgan Williams 13
Key Stat: Trailing by one after one, the Cardinals out scored the Horde 47-28 over the next two periods to take control.
Take Away: Fort Ann runs their record to 8-0 with the victory, while Granville falls to 2-8.
Saratoga Catholic 70 Greenwich 63
Leading Scorers: Spa – Connor Farrington 33 Colin Bradley 16 Witches – Colin Skiff 16 George Ostrowski 15 Lukas Whitehouse 14 Brandon Stout 11
Key Stat: In a close game throughout where Greenwich held a 10-1 advantage in made 3’s and placed four players in doubles, the defensive end of the floor gave up 70 with Farrington dropping 33.
Take Away: Spa Catholic improved to 4-6, and the Witches drop to 2-5 with the loss.
Cohoes 53 Hoosick Falls 47
Leading Scorers: Cohoes – Marguis Alston 14 Josh Giller 12 Jah’lier Martin 10 Panthers – Connor McCart 13
Key Stat: A 22 -8 fourth period fueled the Cohoes comeback win in a back and forth contest that was tied at halftime, and saw the Panthers lead 39-31 after three.
Take Away: Two good squads that will enjoy fine seasons and just might see each other again come sectional time.
