All season long the Red Raiders of Mechanicville have statistically been the best defensive squad in the Wasaren allowing fewer points to opponents than any other league team. Tuesday night in a non-league run with Schuylerville they showcased their ability to score, posting a comfortable 82-71 win over the Black Horses.
The Raiders ran out to 45-18 advantage at the half, led 55-46 after three quarters, and put 27 points on the board in the final period to close things out.
Schuylerville used a 3-ball advantage to hang around in this one, bottoming 10 shots from long range, while the Raiders hit just one time from behind the arc.
The free throw line however was a different story where on the night Mechanicville converted 25 of 32, with the Black Horses making 13 0f 18.
The Raiders placed four players in double figures with Evan Dunn’s 25 points, C.J.Tironi’s 19, Giovanni D’Ambro’s 13 and Keegan McHale’s 13 points leading the Mechanicville attack.
Schuylerville also showed balance in their scoring as Clayton Patrick with 22 points, Zachary Pierce 14, Taylor Dunkel 12, Will Griffin 12, and Joshua Signor with 10 points all reached double digits.
With the loss Schuylerville drops to 6-11 on the season, while the Red Raiders improve to 13-3 with the victory.
Mechanicville has three league games remaining with Hoosic Valley, Cambridge and Stillwater left on their schedule. In all likelihood that final run with the Warriors will decide the Wasaren title, and right now the Raiders are playing as well as anyone on both sides of the ball.
