Greenwich committed an uncharacteristic five turnovers and were kept off the board until the final seconds and fell to Tuckahoe in the Class D state semifinal on Friday.

Tuckahoe running back Declan Connolly scored on runs in the first and second periods staking Tuckahoe to a 13-0 lead at the break.

The Witches scored on a 3-yard touchdown run by Will Weber with 0:13 remaining and their ensuing onside kick was recovered by Connolly sealing the victory for Tuckahoe.

Greenwich completes an outstanding year with an 11-1 mark, a Section II title and their second straight state final four appearance.

Spa Catholic 72    Galway 27

Key Stat:  The Saints held a 7-2 advantage in made threes.

Take Away:  Spa Catholic built a 30-4 lead by the end of the first period and cruised to the opening round win in the Mike Beson Tournament.

Greenwich 51 Moriah 6

If it was a fight, they’d have stopped it.

Greenwich scored three touchdowns on its first five possessions, turning the lights out early on Moriah and posting the one-sided Class D quarterfinal win on Friday afternoon at Colonie High.

Seven minutes in Greenwich held a 20-0 advantage courtesy of three Ryan Ingber touchdown strikes, connecting twice with Ethan Mullen from 49-yards out and finding Kayden Bentley on a 47-yarder in a dominant aerial attack that gave the Witches control.

In the second period both Ingber and running back Will Weber scored on 10-yard TD runs and the Greenwich defense held Moriah at bay sending the Witches into the break leading 35-0.

Wyatt Jamieson and Webber added rushing scores in the second half while Moriah avoided the shutout with a touchdown in the final minutes.

Undefeated and #2 state-ranked Greenwich advances to the state semifinals next Friday in Middleton and a 3 p.m. showdown with the winner of Burke Catholic/Tuckahoe.

Stillwater 1   Tuckahoe 0

Back in the day Ringo Starr had a hit single, ” You Know it Don’t Come Easy”, and while I’m confident it wasn’t playing on Stillwater’s victorious bus ride home from Cortland on Sunday, it would have been fitting.

On Saturday in the C semifinal, Stillwater endured a pair of lightening delays and a strong Burke Catholic squad that took them into overtime where Stillwater prevailed.

In the championship match on Sunday the weather changed to swirling snow, the opponent changed to a gritty Tuckahoe team, but the result stayed the same, a Stillwater “W” and with it a coveted girls soccer state championship.

On Sunday with both squads battling windy conditions and each other, defense took center stage with both teams turning back strong runs, and the match remained scoreless heading into the break.

The second half brought more of the same with Tuckahoe finding the Stillwater post on their best chance of the day, but the Stillwater defense led by Finley Bornt, Mayzie Gibeault and keeper Ally Liamero refused to yield.

With 12:25 remining Stillwater connected on the only goal they would need when Brooke Hodgson ripped a free kick from 30 yards out that cut through the wind and the keepers’ hands for the 1-0 lead and the Stillwater “D” made it stand for their third state title in the last eight years under head coach Christine Ihnatolya.

After suffering a heart-breaking overtime loss last year in Cortland this championship must seem even sweeter to Stillwater who finishes a special fall campaign at 21-1 and New York State champions.

 “Got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues”, Ringo opens the song with. 

Stillwater paid its dues a year ago and cashed in for a championship this weekend.  

Congratulations go out to Coach Ihnatoyla and the players on a simply outstanding soccer season in Stillwater.

Stillwater 2 Burke Catholic 1 OT

After a scoreless first half Stillwater found themselves trailing for most of the second half before tying things late in regulation and winning the match in overtime to earn a spot in Sunday’s Class C state championship game vs. Tuckahoe at Homer High School in Cortland.

Burke Catholic took a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the second half and carried that lead until the 3:08 mark in regulation when Emersyn Patenaude ripped a shot that went through the keeper’s hands, knotting the score at 1-1 and sending the contest into sudden victory overtime.

That victory came when Brooke Hodgson carried her dribble past the Burke/Catholic keeper and tucked it away for the game-winner sending Stillwater (21-1) to the title match.

Greenwich 35   Cambridge/Salem 0

Greenwich parlayed five interceptions and a defense that refused to yield points, into their second straight Section II Class D title at Colonie High School on Friday.

After a scoreless first period the undefeated Witches (10-0), took control with three touchdowns including scoring runs by Ryan Ingber and Michael Cronin along with a 36-yard scoring strike from Ingber to Keegan Clayton to carry a 21-0 advantage into the break.

On the first play of the third period, Greenwich running back Will Weber broke free for a 36-yard run but fumbled, the Witches third turnover of the game, giving Cambridge/Salem the ball, and some life, on their own 19-yardline.

C//S put together a nearly 10:00 minute drive deep into Greenwich territory that stalled with a turnover on downs at the Witches 12.

With 10:48 remaining in the fourth, Greenwich put the game away when Ingber ran it in untouched, from 14 yards out giving the Witches a four-score margin.  

 Ingber added the final points of the night at the 4:02 mark on a 9-yard TD run, his third rushing score of the contest.  The Greenwich quarterback finished with 71 rushing yards in the victory while Weber led all ball carriers gaining131 yards on eight carries for the Witches.

Greenwich returns to Colonie High School next Friday for a state quarterfinal matchup with Section VII champion Moriah, a team they defeated 34-0 in week one of the regular season. 

Cambridge/Salem finishes an outstanding fall season with a 9-2 mark.

Lainey Bochette, Christian Jerome, and Ella Waldron are planning to sign their Division I Letter of Intent for their athletic scholarships this Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Hoosic Valley Jr. / Sr. High School gym.

Cambridge/Salem 36   Stillwater/Spa Catholic 26

Leading 13-12 at the break, Cambridge/Salem took control with a pair of third quarter touchdown runs and held off Stillwater/Spa Catholic to earn the Class D semifinal win on Saturday.

The two squads exchanged scoring drives over the first two periods with Still/Spa taking a 6-0 lead, Cam/Sal edging in front 7-6 on a Jackson Rowland TD run, Still/Spa responding with an Aidan Callanan 20-yard scoring sprint, before Cam/Salem capped the first half with Rowland’s second touchdown carry of the game for a 13-12 lead.

In the third, after a Stillwater/Spa turnover Preston Peabody scored on a 43-yard gallop and minutes later Rowland rang the bell for the third time, with a 48-yard scoring run extending C/S’s lead to 29-12.

Still/Spa struck first in the fourth on a Callanan 45-yard scoring strike to John Williams, but C/S quickly responded when Stephen Yakubec found Rowland for six, ending any hopes of a Still/Spa comeback.

With the win Cambridge/Salem, (9-1) advances to the Class D championship game where they’ll meet the undefeated Witches of Greenwich next weekend.  

Stillwater/Spa Catholic wraps up a fine season with a 5-4 mark.

Stillwater 5   Ticonderoga 0

Stillwater broke open a 1-0 game at the half with four tallies after the break to notch the win in Class C regional play.

Brooke Hodgson with a hat trick and Lucy Rubenstein with a pair of goals led the Stillwater attack.

Stillwater keeper Ally Liamero combined with the Stillwater defense for the squad’s 16th shutout of the year.

Stillwater, (20-1) advances to the Class C state semifinals on Saturday and a matchup with Section IX’s Burke Catholic.

Marcellus 7   Mechanicville 3 

Leading 3-2 at the half, Marcellus broke open the game with four second half goals to post the Class B regional finals win over Mechanicville.

Cece Powell with four goals and Lexie Fragnito with three led the Marcellus attack.  

Gianna Pitts scored twice, and Emma Andrews added a single tally for Mechanicville who finish an excellent season with a 16-5 mark and Wasaren and Section II titles.
