Falls, Valley, Warriors Notch Victories

The boys side of the Wasaren wrapped up it’s regular season on Thursday night with a trio of runs, highlighted by Hoosick Falls junior Jon Kempf scoring his 1000th career point.

Hoosick Falls 62  Greenwich 45

Leading Scorers:  Panthers – Jon Kempf 27       Dimitri Rose 14       Tristan Williams 12    Witches – John Walsh 12       Carson Mosher 10

Key Stat:  The Falls built a 37-19 lead at the half, on their way to the comfortable win, completing another undefeated season in league play and notching their 53rd straight Wasaren victory.  Kempf with 27 points led the Panther attack, and  became the fourth Hoosick Falls boys player to reach the 1000 point milestone.

 

Hoosic Valley 71  Berlin 30

Leading Scorers:  Valley – Zach Ryan 14       Brandon Jesmain 11        Isaac Carlo 10       Derek Eddy 10      Mountaineers – Malichi Ritter 10

Key Stat:  The Indians won every quarter and put 12 players in the scoring column, in posting the road win over the Mountaineers.

 

Stillwater 45  Cambridge 36

Leading Scorers:  Warriors – Brian McNeil 12       Grant Baker 11         Indians – Ben Epler 11        Brian Hall 10

Key Stat:  In a game tied 19-19 at the break Stillwater rode a 25-17 advantage over the final two periods to the “W” in Cambridge.

 

Girls

Greenwich 68  Salem 41

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Molly Brophy 23       Tess Merrill 14        Marquita Gutasy 10 Generals – Riche 14       Boyark 11       Spencer 10

Key Stat:  The Witches outscored Salem 48-17 over the middle two periods, cruising to the non-league victory.

 

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

73_greenwichCongratulations to Greenwich basketball player Molly Brophy on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

On January 28th against Stillwater, the Witches sophomore scored her 1000th career point, connecting on a first half bucket in the paint.  Brophy finished the night with 15 points in the 64-55 Greenwich win.

Two nights later Molly scored 20 points in a 54-50 loss to Tamarac, and the 5’9″ guard finished the week with a 22 point outing on Friday, leading the Witches to a 73-28 “W” over Spa Catholic.

Waterford, Tamarac Post Wins

Only two games played out in the Wasaren on an icy Wednesday night, as Tamarac and Waterford came away with victories, and with their “W” the Fordians clinch first place in the Battenkill Division.

Waterford 65  Spa Catholic 50

Leading Scorers:  Fordians – Bobby Valigorski 16        Michael Talavera 16        Evan Fairclough 13        TJ Kelley 12           Saints – Ryan McCarroll 19        Nick Condry 13

Key Stat:  Waterford built a 19-9 lead after one and didn’t give it back, riding that cushion and four players in double figures to the victory, that puts the Fordians in Monday night’s championship game in Mechanicville where they’ll face the Panthers of Hoosick Falls.

 

Tamarac 78  Mechanicville 67

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Anthony Ciampolillo 30       Frank Zotto 23        Bo Catherwood 10            Red Raiders – Luciano D’Ambro 17         Nick Billert 16

Key Stat:  In a close game throughout the Bengals used a 22-14 final frame to earn the road victory over the Raiders.

 

 

Roundball Results

Both the girls and boys basketball teams from Hoosick Falls took the floor on Monday night in make-up games facing Stillwater and Cambridge respectively.  Different opponents but the night ended at each venue with the same result, a Panthers “W”.

Girls

Hoosick Falls 57  Stillwater 40

Leading Scorers:  Panthers – Logan Thayne 23            Warriors – Marley Mueller 16

Key Stat:  Stillwater jumped out to a 16-12 lead after one, but the Falls outscored their hosts 28-12 over the middle two frames to take control and post the comfortable win over the Warriors.

 

Boys

Hoosick Falls 70  Cambridge 28

Leading Scorers:  Panthers – Jon Kempf 31        Tristan Williams 18          Isiah Burnett 12   Indians – Jeffrey Burke 9

Key Stat:  The Falls won every quarter, held the Indians to single digits in three of the four, and with the victory the Panthers are two wins away from another perfect Wasaren campaign.

Two makeup games in the league on Monday saw the Greenwich girls and Mechanicville boys post victories.

Greenwich 64  Stillwater 55

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Kylie Masse 21       Molly Brophy 15        Tess Merrill 10     Warriors – Marley Mueller 16         Brooke Pickett 12            Molly Sheehan 12

Key Stat:  Greenwich outscored the Warriors 33-24 in the second half to pull away for the “W” in a game that was tied at the half.

 

Mechanicville 69  Greenwich 56

Leading Scorers:  Red Raiders – Josh Germaine 23        Luci D’Ambro 12        Devin Garland 10        Witches – Alex Curtis 13        Carson Mosher 10

Key Stat:  The Raiders hung 48 on the board in the first half and led by 25 at the break. They cruised to the home win on the strength of 11 made triples, with the junior guard Germaine drilling seven.

Waterford Rolls, Warriors Fall

A pair of non-league runs on Wednesday night saw the boys from Waterford roll over Heatly, while the Stillwater girls fell to Ichabod Crane.

Leading Scorers:  Fordians – Bobby Valigorski 21/ 23 rebounds        Michael Talavera 19      TJ Kelley 18           Heatly – D. Boodrow 16        D. Moore 12

Key Stat:  The Fordians hung 53 points on the board in the first half, running out and away from Heatly, and with the “W”, running their season mark to 8-6.

 

Ichabod Crane 60  Stillwater 48

Leading Scorers:  Riders – Madison Graham 24        Madison Kowalski 11       Audrey Duso 10         Warriors – Marley Mueller 23         Brooke Pickett 10

Key Stat:  Stillwater held a 14-12 advantage after one, but the Riders won each of the last three quarters and slowly pulled away in notching the victory over the Warriors.
