Another night with a full slate for the Wasaren boys, and with it, another Hoosick Falls victory to run their league winning streak to 44 straight and 74 of their last 76.

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

Congratulations to Tamarac basketball player Frank Zotto on being named this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

The senior guard scored 17 points on Wednesday in a 78 -58 victory over Waterford and  on Friday night by poured in 29 points to lead the Bengals to a 75-71 win over Greenwich.

On the year Zotto is averaging 22.0 points per game for the 4-0 Tamarac squad.

Mechanicville Survives in Schaghticoke

More times than not a good game of basketball has a series of runs in it where both teams put together an offensive push to cut a deficit or expand a lead.  Friday night in Schaghticoke the visitors from Mechanicville seemingly used every run to expand their lead while Hoosic Valley used their spurts to narrow the Red Raiders advantage.  In a game that needed all 32 minutes to decide, the Valley’s last run came up two points shy and Mechanicville survived with the thrilling 50-48 victory. Hoosic Valley Tops Cambridge

On a night where defense was king the Indians from Schaghticoke nearly threw a first half shutout, and did enough offensively to post the 37-17 victory over Cambridge Wednesday night in Cambridge.

The Valley started the game with a flurry, scoring eight points in the first two minutes on a Matt Rowe putback and corner threes from Isaac Carlo and Derek Eddy.  But Cambridge switched from their 2-3 zone and went man to man defensively and the game turned into a contest where points were hard to come by. Two Wasaren squads played non league affairs on Monday night with the Hoosic Valley boys posting a “W” while the Lady Saints of Saratoga Catholic fell.

Hoosic Valley 63  Galway 44

Leading Scorers:  Indians –  Derek Eddy 16     CJ Bassett 14      Matt Rowe 11      Isaac Carlo 11           Galway – Ryan Lovelass 12      Erik Malanowski 10

Key Stat:  Hoosic Valley started with a 17-3 first period and backed that with a 14-7 advantage in the second quarter to take control early.

Take Away:  A nice non league win for the Valley, putting four players in doubles which has to please Coach Lilac.  Next up for the Indians is a road game at Cambridge, Wednesday night.

 

Corinth 38  Saratoga Catholic 34

Leading Scorers:  Tomahawks – Miranda Dockum 10        Saints – Ryleigh O’Connell 9

Key Stat:  The Saints led 24 -18 at the break but Corinth rallied over the final two periods to earn the victory.

Take Away:  The Saints go to 0-5 on the season but will have an opportunity tonight for that elusive first win, when they host the Mountaineers of Berlin.

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

67_hoosickfalls2Congratulations to Hoosick Falls Logan Thayne on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

On Monday Logan scored 25 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 50-43 win over Meekel Christian Academy and followed that with a 30 point, 15 rebound outing on Wednesday leading the Panthers past Schenectady 60-53.

The junior center finished the week on Friday night in Berlin scoring 15 points in a 67-13 victory over the Mountaineers.

Congratulations to Logan, our first Wasaren Player of the Week selection for the winter season.

Friday night saw the Wasaren in full swing with a full schedule of boys and girls action where close contests were few and far between.

Key Stat:  Eleven Panthers score in the one-sided victory as the Falls moves to 3-0 with the win.
