This just in. Jimmer Fredette can score the basketball. Always has, and until he chooses not to, always will.
The Glens Falls native showed his scoring prowess once again yesterday, pouring in 75 points for the Shanghai Sharks in a 137-136 defeat to the Beikong Fly Dragons in a Chinese Basketball Association contest.
Jimmer went for 62 in the second half including an astonishing 40 points in the final period. He shot 24 of 34 from the floor including 7 of 10 from deep, and 20 of 21 from the free throw line. Fredette scored with :07 remaining on an acrobatic drive giving the Sharks the lead before the Dragons won it at the buzzer. Jimmer added eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals to round out the stat sheet. Continue reading

The Cambridge-Salem Indians traveled four hours north to Potsdam Friday night for their Class C state quarterfinal, and on a snowy night in the north country their football season came to an end.
The Blue Devils scored two first half touchdowns, and kept the Indians off the board until midway through the final period to post the 16-6 victory.
After forcing Cambridge-Salem to punt on their first possession Ogdensburg Free Academy drove 58 yards and Stephen Morley capped it with a 3-yard touchdown run and with the two-point conversion the Devils held the 8-0 lead.
The OFA defense held C-S at bay throughout, forcing two punts, a fumble and a missed field goal on the Indians first four possessions.
The Blue Devils scored their second TD right before the half when Jackson Troiano found MeSean Johnson on a 55-yard scoring strike and a 16-0 advantage at the half.
The Indians broke through with 5:49 remaining when Tommy English ran it in from 41 yards out, but the two point conversion failed and Ogdensburg closed things out for the “W”.
Cambridge-Salem completes another outstanding season finishing with a 10-1 mark and a Section II championship despite jumping up to the C classification this year after winning back to back state titles in Class D.

With high school winter sports practices underway this week there are four Wasaren teams still playing their respective fall sports, three hoping to capture a state title this weekend.
The Hoosick Falls field hockey team and the Stillwater girls soccer team will play in Class C state semifinals, while the Greenwich girls cross country team will race in the state championships on Saturday as well. The Cambridge-Salem football team plays a Class C state quarterfinal on Friday with a potential state title berth two weeks out. Continue reading

The Hoosic Valley Indians did something this year that’s very difficult to do in team sports. After starting their football season at 0-3 the Schaghticoke squad over the next six weekends posted “W’s” earning the right to play for the Section II Class D crown against Warrensburg Saturday afternoon at Schuylerville.
But a big piece of what brought the Indians to the title game, their ground attack, was taken away by Burghers who held the Valley to 100 rushing yards in posting the 28-6 win and claiming the Class D championship. Continue reading

On a rainy night in Lansingburgh the Indians of Cambridge-Salem took control early then weathered a Chatham comeback before closing things out, clinching the Section II Class C championship with a 41-27 decision over the Panthers.
The combination of a talented offensive line and a pair of explosive, senior running backs in Tyler Linendoll and Tommy English have paid dividends all season and on this Friday night things were no different. The O-line opened gaping holes and the senior tandem took advantage with Linendoll running for 242 yards with three touchdowns and English adding 153 yards with two scores. Continue reading

It’s week ten of the high school football season and in each classification just two squads are left standing. A pair of Wasaren schools are among those teams as Cambridge-Salem,(Class C), and Hoosic Valley, (Class D), will vie for sectional titles this weekend.
Cambridge-Salem, ( 9-0), will face Chatham, (8-1), tonight at Lansingburgh at 7 p.m. , while Hoosic Valley, (6-3), takes on Warrensburg, (7-1), Saturday at Schuylerville with a 1 p.m. start. Continue reading

One football team has dominated all season long while the other got hot at just the right time. Both methods of operation stayed the course on Saturday as both Cambridge-Salem and Hoosic Valley posted semifinal “W’s” and moved on to play in Super Bowl games next weekend. Continue reading
