The all-state girls soccer team as named by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports was released on Sunday with eight players from the Wasaren earning recognition.
In Class C Stillwater’s Brooke Pickett and Keelyn Peacock were selected to the first team while teammate Faith Sheehan earned third team status. Continue reading

As hard as it is to win a high school state championship it’s nearly impossible to claim back to back state crowns, something heading into championship weekend that had never been done by any Section II school. Until now.
The Cambridge Indians made just enough big plays on both sides of the ball to post a 26-14 victory over Maple Grove and claim their second straight Class D state football championship on Black Friday. Continue reading
Tommy English and Colton Dean with two touchdowns each, led Cambridge to a 56-8 demolition of Millbrook Friday night in a Class D football state semifinal, sending the Indians back to the Dome where they’ll defend their 2016 title against Maple Grove in a rematch of last year’s state championship game where Cambridge prevailed in double overtime. The mindset in post season play for many teams is to “survive and advance”. In Ausable Valley on Friday Cambridge “survived” the weather and “advanced” past a determined Moriah squad, posting a 54-20 victory in Class D state quarterfinal action. Continue reading
A much anticipated matchup for the Class D crown turned into a one-sided affair as Cambridge jumped out early, and cruised past Greenwich 40-7 to earn the Section II championship for the 16th time since 1992.
After these two squads met in the regular season and played a back and forth contest with the Witches prevailing 43-38, most felt Saturday’s game would be much of the same. Didn’t happen. Continue reading
Was there ever a doubt? Starting in the preseason and continuing through the last weekend in October the prevailing theme in Section II Class D football was either Greenwich or Cambridge would wear the crown on the first Saturday in November.
Yesterday both squads cleared their last hurdle with blowout victories in respective Class D semifinals, setting up the much anticipated Super Bowl matchup. Continue reading
