Girls Soccer

Mechanicville 7  Tamarac 1:  Jada Brown found the back of the net five times to lead the Raiders to the one-sided decision over the Bengals of Tamarac.

Brynn Murphy added a pair of goals for Mechanicville who with the win, their 10th straight, move to 11-2-1 on the season.

Tamarac avoided the shutout when Bre Evertsen connected for the Bengals score.

 

Germantown 3  Berlin 1:  Riley Gibbins scored a pair of goals and Megan Dunn added a single strike as Germantown slipped past Berlin.

Jordanne Brazie got the Mountaineers on the board with a second half tally.

 

Boys Soccer

Mechanicville 4  Tamarac 0:  The Red Raiders scored three times in the last 30 minutes of play to open up a close contest and post the “W” over Tamarac.

Mechanicville held a 1-0 lead at the break on a redirection finish by TJ Bisaillon, but in the second half the Bengals seized momentum and with 31:00 left in the game looked to tie things on a PK.

Raider keeper Zach White would have none of it, stoning the shot and Mechanicville pulled away from there with Andrew Kraszewski, Wyqui Agunda, and Mark Brackley all finding the range for scores.

Mechanicville with the victory moves to 8-0, 11-4 on the year and will close out their regular season on Thursday with a home match against the Saints of Saratoga Catholic.

 

Hoosic Valley 3  Berlin 2 OT:  Josh Ackerly scored the game-winner, connecting in the second overtime to give the Valley the well-earned “W” over the Mountaineers.

In regulation Ackerly and CJ Bassett tallies for the Indians were equalized by Kasey Billert and Dan Hunt goals for Berlin, setting up Cavert’s heroics in overtime.

 

Galway 7  Hoosick Falls 0:  Anthony Powers and Rowan Smith with two goals each led Galway to the easy victory over the Panthers of Hoosick Falls.

Mechanicville 2  Greenwich 0: Mechanicville used goals by Nick Amodeo and Wyqui Aguda, combined with a stingy Red Raider defense to post the road win over the Witches.

Amodeo found the range with a first half strike from 40 yards out and Aguda tallied in the second half when his corner kick connected off the hands of the Greenwich keeper.

Raider keeper Zach White with four saves combined with the Raider “D” for the shutout as Mechanicville improves to 7-0, 9-4 with the win.

Greenwich with the loss moves to 4-2-1, 9-3-1 on the year.

 

Cambridge 1  Maple Hill 0:  After a scoreless first half, the Indians scored the decisive goal when Lily Phillips finished off a Vanessa Evans feed giving Cambridge the narrow road victory over the Wildcats.

Cambridge keeper McKayla McLenithan and the Indians defense earned the shutout and with the win Cambridge improves to 7-2, 10-4 on the season.

 

Friday Night Football; Stillwater Wins Indian Bowl

Stillwater 34  Mechanicville 7:  Stillwater quarterback James Galarneau threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another, leading the Warriors to the easy victory over Mechanicville in the annual Indian Bowl matchup.

Stillwater scored the only points of the first period on a Mason Seymour touchdown run and the Warriors took the 7-0 lead.

Stillwater gained control in the second quarter on a pair of touchdowns strikes from Galarneau, when the senior QB connected with Ryan Greene from 19 yards out and followed with a 25-yard throw and catch for points to Isaac Cutler.

After the break Galarneau scored on a 44-yard jaunt, extending the Warrior lead to 27-0 after three periods, and in the final period Seymour  capped the Stillwater scoring with his second rushing touchdown of the game from a yard out.

Mechanicville avoided the shutout on a Joe Sanchez 7-yard scoring run, for the final points of the night before the big crowd in Stillwater.

Galarneau and Seymour both topped 100 rushing yards in the game and Brian McNeil with six tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles led a dominating Warrior defense.

With the win Stillwater goes to 6-0 on the year and will wrap it’s regular season next Friday at home against Fonda.

Mechanicville slips to 2-4 with the loss and will finish their regular season at Tamarac on Friday.

 

Greenwich 41  Corinth-Ft. Edward 6:  The Witches racked up more than 400 yards of total offense, nearly 300 coming on the ground in notching the one-sided decision over the Tomahawks in Greenwich Friday night. Continue reading →

Stillwater 5  Greenwich 2:  Stillwater jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead, on their way to the road victory over the Witches.

Brooke Pickett scored four goals, three coming before the break, and Keelyn Peacock added a second half tally to lead the Warriors.

Faith Ingber scored both goals in the match for Greenwich.

 

Cambridge 5  Tamarac 3:  In a 2-2 game at the break, Cambridge dominated play in the second half to notch the home “W”.

Vanessa Evans with three goals and Lily Phillips with a pair of scores paced the Cambridge attack.

Taylor Smith with two goals and Sophie Champagne with one led the Bengals.

 

Mechanicville 5  Hoosick Falls 0:  The Raiders ran out to a 2-0 lead at the half and cruised to the road win over the Panthers.

Jada Brown scored two goals and Brynn Murphy, Olivia Horan and Madelyn Shakow all added single strikes for Mechanicville who notched their seventh straight “W”.

Savannah Bowie, with eight saves, combined with the Mechanicville defense for the shutout.

Holy Trinity 49  Cambridge/Salem 28:  Pride quarterback Joe Tortello threw for 335 yards and five touchdowns leading Holy Trinity past Cambridge/Salem in a battle of undefeated squads in Cambridge Saturday afternoon.

Tortello connected on scoring strikes of 80 and 13 yards to Nacier Hundley and tossed three more to Noah Foster of 10, 57 and 90 yards.

The Pride led 21-8 at halftime and scored 14 unanswered to start the third period to take control.

The Indians rushed the football well throughout the contest, racking up 443 yards on the ground with senior running back Calvin Schneider picking up 164 yards with a touchdown, senior Hunter Day 98 yards and two scores, and Kaedin Ogilvie adding 89 yards and a touchdown.

The Class B Pride moves to 5-0 on the year with the win, while Cambridge/Salem goes to 4-1 nd will look ahead to a road game in Whitehall next Saturday. Continue reading →

Stillwater 5  Cambridge 2: Brooke Pickett scored a hat trick to lead the Warriors to the home victory over Cambridge.

Keelyn Peacock with a goal and two assists, and Khali Lux with a single tally rounded out the Stillwater attack as the Warriors improve to 11-0-1 on the year.

Sydney Benson and Sophie Phillips paced Cambridge with first half scoring strikes.

 

Tamarac 5  Berlin 0:  Abby Buckley found the back of the net with a pair of goals in the Bengals win over Berlin.

Abbie Yetto, Jenna Hunt and Shannon Ryan all found the range as well for Tamarac, and Bengal keeper Jenna Hunt (5 saves), combined with the Tamarac defense to post the shutout.

 

Mechanicville 3  Hoosic Valley 0:  Jada Brown, Hannah Garone, and Brynn Murphy all split the posts with scoring strikes as the Red Raiders won their sixth straight, turning back the Indians of Hoosic Valley.

Raider keeper Savannah Bowie saved seven and with the Mechanicville “D” shutdown the Valley attack.

 

Hoosick Falls 1  Waterford:  Sophie Estes connected in the second half for the only goal of the match, as the Panthers slipped past the Fordians on Wednesday.

In posting the shutout Panther keeper Logan Thayne saved seven shots for the Falls while Waterford keeper Sierra Atwood saved 14 for the Fordians.

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

stillwater warriorCongratulations to Stillwater soccer player Brooke Pickett on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Over a four game stretch this past week Brooke scored 14 goals and assisted on four more.

On Tuesday in an 8-0 win over Waterford Pickett scored three goals and added an assist and two days later with three goals and two assists led the Warriors to a 6-1 victory over Tamarac.

On Saturday at the Afrim’s Sports Complex the senior striker connected on four goals in Stillwater’s 8-1 defeat of Tamarac, and yesterday Pickett finished the week with an assist and four goals in an 11-0 “W” over Berlin.

Congratulations to Brooke, our newest Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

 

 

Soccer Results; Warriors, Raiders Post Wins

Stillwater 11  Berlin 0:  Eight Warriors found the back of the net in Stillwater’s one-sided road victory over Berlin.

Brooke Picket led the assault with four goals, while Khali Lux, Devon Wagner, Keelyn Peacock, Kelly Moran, Gianna Moraci, Trinity Cutler and Sidney Frank all added single strikes.

Kiersten Conroy with four saves and the Stillwater “D” combined for the shutout as the Warriors improve their season mark to 10-0-1.

 

Mechanicville 3  Greenwich 0:  Jada Brown, Ryleigh Hopeck and Brynn Murphy all connected for scores and Savannah Bowie, (five saves ), and the Raider defense combined to earn the shutout over the Witches.

With the “W” Mechanicville moves to 6-3 on the year, winners of five straight.

 

Tamarac 4  Waterford 2:  Vanessa Baldwin with two goals and Shannon Ryan and Bre Eversten will singles strikes led the Bengals to the road victory over Waterford on Monday.

Mackenzie Koniszewski and Addyson Galuski with a goal each paced the Fordians attack.

Another weekend of girls soccer action for Wasaren teams at Afrim’s Sports Complex.

Stillwater 8  Tamarac 1:  The Warriors built a 5-0 lead by halftime and coasted to the non-league victory over Tamarac.

Brooke Pickett with four goals and Teya Staie with a pair led the Stillwater offense.  Paige Brinsko and Trinity Cutler added single strikes for Stillwater who moves to 9-0-1 on the year.

Tamarac avoided the shutout when Sophie Champagne connected on a second half goal.

 

Cambridge 8  Canajoharie 0:  The Indians held a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break, then exploded for six second half scores in the one-sided decision over Canjo.

Five different Indians found the range in the match with Vanessa Evans leading the way with a hat trick.  Sophie Phillips added a pair of strikes, and Anna Headwell, Sydney Benson and Ruth Nolan all notched single tallies for 5-3 Cambridge squad. Continue reading →

Girls Soccer

Stillwater 6  Tamarac 1:  The Warriors ran out to a 4-1 cushion after one half of play, and cruised to their 8th victory in nine outings.

Taya Staie and Brooke Pickett with hat tricks led the Warrior offense with Keelyn Peacock assisting on four of the Stillwater goals.

Abbie Yetto connected on a first half tally for the Bengals.

 

Saratoga Catholic 6  Berlin 6 OT:  After two halves of action, with both teams scoring in bunches, defense ruled in the overtime sessions as the Saints and the Mountaineers settled for the tie.

Lauren Maher scored five goals for Spa Catholic and Emileigh Murry connected as well for the Saints who held a 4-3 lead at the break.’

Rachel Bortnick scored all six goals for Berlin including the final three scores of regulation to pull the Mountaineers even, setting up the overtime periods.

 

Mechanicville 2  Cambridge 0:  First half scoring strikes by the Jada Brown and Hannah Garone led the Raiders to the home “W” over Cambridge.

Raider keeper Savannah Bowie turned back eight shots and combined with the Raider “D” for Mechanicville’s third shutout of the season.

 

Golf

Saratoga Catholic 5  Waterford 0:  In action at Fairways of Halfmoon on Thursday, Jack Costantino carded the low round of 46 to lead the Saints to the shutout of Waterford.

Joining Costantino in the winner’s circle were teammates Will Fizer, Dylan Mulholland, Cody Burky and Ronan Loftus-Graney as the Saints with the win improve to 9-4 on the year.
