While the Indian Bowl between Stillwater and Mechanicville took center stage on Friday night, three other league schools were in action as well.  Here’s a quick look at how they fared.

Hoosick Falls 28  Canajoharie 24:  Our Wasaren Player of the Week was at it again as the Panthers Max Kipp ran for 123 yards and two scores leading the Falls to the win.

Panther QB Sam Richard threw for a pair of scores and rushed for 104 yards and Liam McGarvin added 95 yards on 10 carries as Hoosick Falls with the victory moves to 2-0.

 

Lake George/Hadley Luzerne 27  Greenwich 6:  The War Eagles held Greenwich to just five first downs, 67 yards of total offense and forced three Witches turnovers in posting the convincing “W” over Greenwich.

The Witches tied things early in the third period on a Jesse Kuzmich touchdown from 16 yards out, but LG/HL scored the final 21 points of the contest to run their season mark to 2-0, while Greenwich slips to 0-2.

Wasaren Girls Soccer

Stillwater 6  Hoosick Falls 1:  The Stillwater girls continued their torrid start to the season, scoring three first half goals to take control on their way to the easy “W” over the Panthers of Hoosick Falls.

Brooke Pickett’s hat trick led the potent Warrior attack, with Teya Staie, Keelyn Pickett, and Brianna McLaughlin adding singles strikes, while Devon Wagner handed out a trio of assists.  Continue reading

Hoosick Falls Shuts Down Galway

Hoosick Falls scored four times in the first half of play and cruised to the easy victory over Galway in Hoosick Falls on Tuesday.

Phobe Thompson scored a hat trick to lead the Panthers attack, while Grace Wysocki added two goals and two assists, and Olivia Brownell’s goal rounded out the scoring for the Falls.

Maddy Yeung saved three shots to earn the shutout as the Panthers improve to 0-2, 2-2 with the win.

 

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

Congratulations to Hoosick Falls football player Max Kipp on being named this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

In the first weekend of action for high school football, Kipp put together a nice season on a Saturday afternoon in Whitehall.

The junior running back ran for 201 yards and five touchdowns including a 66 yard jaunt for points in the opening quarter, and added a 98 yard kickoff return for six in leading the Panthers to a 52-32 victory over the Railroaders.

Congratulations to Max, our newest Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Hoosick Falls Posts Dominant Win Over Railroaders

hoosick-falls-ny2When talking about the strength of Class C football teams this year let’s not forget to add the Panthers of Hoosick Falls to the list.  After a so-so season by Hoosick Falls standards last year the Falls opened in style posting a 52-32 “W” over the Railroaders with Max Kipp having a nice season on a Saturday afternoon on Whitehall.

Kipp rushed for 201 yards and five touchdowns and why not, a 98 yard kickoff return as well leading the Panthers to the comfortable win.  The junior back ran it in from 18, 66, 3, 35 and 9 yards out, to go with the return score that covered 98.

Liam McGarvin added 111 yards on the ground with a touchdown for the Falls which led 21-0 at the quarter break.

Leading Whitehall was quarterback Jake Moore who ran for 149 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground and through the air, connecting with Tyler Shattuck just before halftime.

Boys and girls soccer along with a pair of golf matches played out on Thursday in the Wasaren as all sports ramp up with football kicking off this weekend.

Stillwater 5  Waterford 4 OT:  The Warriors Grant Baker scored a hat trick before the break, and saved the game-winner for the overtime period, as Stillwater got past the Fordians of Waterford.

Josh Luca added a first half score for the Warriors, while Waterford connected on a Hunter Guertin PK and a strike from Jack O’Brien off a corner as the teams went to halftime with Stillwater holding a 4-2 advantage.

Second half goals from Tyler Galanearu and Zach Soden knotted things at 4-4 setting up Bakers game-winner in the extra session.

With the win Stillwater improves to 1-0, 3-0 while Waterford goes to 0-1, 0-1 with the tough loss. Continue reading

Hoosick Falls 5  Cambridge 0:  The Panthers Matt Smith fired the low round of 34, leading Hoosick Falls to the sweep of Cambridge in a match played at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Wednesday.

Joining Smith in the victory parade were Ryan Bloomer, Miles Smith, Brady Hathaway and Alison Hathaway as the Falls improve to 6-0 on the year with the “W”. Continue reading

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

67_hoosickfalls2Congratulations to Hoosick Falls golfer Ryan Bloomer on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Bloomer, the top seeded golfer on the unbeaten Hoosick Falls squad, has posted “W’s” in all five matches.

Ryan has earned medalist honors in four of the five matches, carding a 37 against Hoosic Valley, 33’s versus Tamarac and Saratoga Catholic, and fired a 38 in the Waterford match.

Congratulations to Ryan, our first Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week for the 2018-19 school year.

Golf Results: Hoosick Falls Moves to 4-0

While it’s still early in the high school golf season, every match, whether played in August or late September, counts the same in the race for the league title. That being said, the Panthers of Hoosick Falls have enjoyed the best start to the Wasaren season sporting a perfect 4-0 mark with a win on Thursday over the Fordians of Waterford.

Here’s a closer look at how all the matches played out across the Wasaren.

Hoosick Falls 4.5  Waterford .5:  The Falls Ryan Bloomer carded the low round of 38, and the Panthers posted wins in flights 1-4 in action at Fairways of Halfmoon on Thursday.

Matt Smith, Miles Smith and Brady Hathaway all joined Bloomer in the winner’s circle as Hoosick Falls improved to 4-0 on the year. Continue reading
