Girls Basketball; Indians, Bengals Roll

There was a full slate of action for the Wasaren girls on the Wednesday before the holiday break, with just one game decided by less than 10 points.  Tamarac and Cambridge with wins stayed unbeaten in league play while Hoosic Valley, Mechanicville and Waterford posted “W’s” as well.

Warriors, Saints Notch Wins

Stillwater 70  Tamarac 32:  The Warriors jumped out to a 21-9 first quarter lead, extended their advantage to 43-17 at the half and cruised to the victory over Tamarac Tuesday night in Stillwater.

Brian McNeil poured in 20 points to lead a trio of Warriors in doubles with James Galarneau scoring 14 points and Cooper Monast adding 10 for Stillwater (1-2, 4-2). Continue reading

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

Congratulations to Tamarac’s Emily Erickson, this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

The junior guard scored 19 points with three triples and a 6-6 effort from the foul line, in a 64-39 victory over Hoosick Falls on Wednesday.

On Friday night in Mechanicville Erickson poured in 26 points including four 3-pointers and a perfect 12-12 from the stripe, leading the Bengals to a 69-55 “W” over the Red Raiders.

Tamarac Moves to 5-0

Another name for the foul line in basketball is the “charity stripe”, misnamed because there’s nothing given to any player that steps to the line for shots.  However Friday night in Mechanicville, Tamarac made it appear that free points were handed to anyone wearing a red jersey, shooting a basketball from 15 feet.

The Bengals converted on 23 of 25 attempts from the line, and used that precision to keep a comfortable working margin in their 69-54 defeat of the Red Raiders. Continue reading

Soccer Sectional Roundup

Girls Class C

Stillwater 4  Chatham 0:  Teya Staie, Keelyn Peacock, Devon Wagner and Brooke Pickett all scored for Stillwater as the Warriors turned back Chatham in Class C’s opening round.

Holding a 1-0 advantage at halftime Stillwater scored three times after the break to post the win and advance to the quarterfinals on Tuesday where they’ll host Bolton-Warrensburg. Continue reading

Friday Night Football; Warriors, Panthers Advance, Raiders Fall

Sectional quarterfinals in Class C highlighted a football Friday as four Wasaren squads started what they hoped would be a long second season run.  Stillwater and Hoosick Falls both took step one in that journey posting convincing “W’s”, while the title quest ended for the Mechanicville Red Raiders and the Bengals of Tamarac.
