Friday Roundup: Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley, Stillwater Post “W’s”

Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 35    Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 20

In a game tied at 14 all at the half, M/HV took control with 21 unanswered points after the break on their way to a big divisional win at home on Friday night.

M/HV quarterback AJ Messercola scored on a 53-yard run on a fourth down play call to cap the 21-point run that sealed it for the home squad.

Dimaggio Ferrara led a strong rushing attack for M/HV gaining 156 yards on 25 carries with three touchdowns, with Jordan Barnes adding 81 yards on nine rushes and a TD, and Marcus Robinson picked up 53 yards on 18 totes.

Tamarac/Hoosick Falls QB Sam Fauler threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns, finding Richie Stifter for all three scores, with Stifter finishing the night with seven catches and 168 receiving yards to lead the T/HF attack.

With the win M/HV moves to 2-0 on the season and T/HF slips to 1-1 with the loss.

 

Stillwater 56   Watervliet-Heatly 12

Stillwater scored the first 28 points of the contest on their way to the comfortable victory over Watervliet on Friday night in Stillwater.

Stillwater QB Aidan Callanan ran for four scores and threw for another, finding Matt Lutz on a 34-yard scoring strike, while running back Nehamiah Costine scored on runs of 48, 18 and 6-yards to round out the Stillwater attack.

Stillwater evens their season mark at 1-1 with the win.

 

Waterford 3   Maple Hill 1

Trailing 1-0 early, the Fordians tied things before the break and put the game away with two second half tallies to post the “W” under the lights in Waterford.

Just five minutes in, a Tyler Gibson score gave the visitors a 1-0 lead, but the Fordians answered quickly when Payton Galuski found Connor Belonga for the equalizer knotting the match at 1-all that stood into the break.

After intermission at the 32nd minute mark it was Belonga again, this time finishing a Jake Catanzarita for the 2-1 Waterford advantage.

The Fordians put the game away in the 68th minute when Galuski arched a perfect corner kick to the back post where Sam Caulkins put away the header and the win for Waterford.

 

Cambridge/Salem 2   Stillwater 0

C/S scored a goal in each half and the C/S defense did the rest in the shutout victory in Cambridge.

Midway through the first half C/S’s Luke Leblanc scored when his corner kick found the net giving the home squad a 1-0 lead that they carried into the break.

Late in the second half Alex Olson capped the scoring, finishing a Josh LaFountain feed and the C/S defense closed out the match for the home “W”.

 

Emma Willard 3   Johnstown 0

Aurora Debye-Saxinger with a pair of goals and freshman Sally Hill with a single tally led the Jesters past the Sir Bills in girls’ soccer on Friday.

 

Cambridge 5   Rensselaer 0

Cambridge ran out to a 4-0 lead by halftime and cruised to the nonleague win over the Rams of Rensselaer.

Ashley Moses led the scoring parade with a pair of goals, while teammates Emily DeSouza, Jessica Cofresi and Laynie Wilkins all added single scoring strikes.

Cambridge keeper Lexie Pedersen saved three shots and combined with the Cambridge defense for the shutout.

 

Whitehall 2   Hoosick Falls 1  OT

With Hoosick Falls trailing 1-0 in the second half a Lany Kasulinous tally in the 49th minute tied the match which needed extra sessions to decide.

Whitehall earned the win when Mia Waters connected on a penalty kick in the second overtime giving the Railroaders the nonleague victory.  

Hoosick Falls keepers Lucy Haynes and Chaya Rhoden combined to save seven shots while Whitehall keeper Khloe Paddock turned back eight shots for the Railroaders.

 

Stillwater 5   Cambridge/Salem 0

Ty Morris carded the low round of 49 leading Stillwater to the shutout victory over C/S in golf action at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Friday.

Logan Pickett, Myles Marrillio, Dan Degrasso-Izzo and Nick Rose along with Morris all picked up match wins for Stillwater.

 

 

Mechanicville Moves to 7-0, Stillwater Tops Glens Falls

Mechanicville 4.5   Greenwich .5

Jack Salvadore carded the low round of 39 leading Mechanicville past Greenwich at the Mechanicville Golf Club on Thursday.

Joining Salvadore in the winner’s circle were teammates Logan Starks, Nate Salvadore, Jacob Pickett and Ben Amato.  

In flight one Mechanicville’s Matt Salvador and Greenwich’s Eric Wade finished all square, splitting the point.

With the win Mechanicville moves to 7-0 on the season.

 

Stillwater 2   Glens Falls 1

Stillwater tallied once in both halves and their defense kept Glens Falls off the board until late in the match, in notching the non-league victory under the lights in Stillwater.

Stillwater took the lead in the 39th minute when Brooke Hodgson found the range giving the hosts a 1-0 lead which they rode into the break.

Stillwater doubled down on the one score advantage in the 74th minute when Bridget Coon finished an Emersyn Patenaude find for the two-goal cushion. 

Two minutes later the visitors got on the board when Parker Welch connected as the Falls pulled to within one, but Stillwater closed the door for the remainder and posted the home “W”.

With the victory Stillwater’s season mark improves to 3-0-1.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wednesday Results: Mechanicville, Waterford, Cambridge/Salem Post Soccer “W’s”

Mechanicville 5   Stillwater 0

Five different players rang the scoring bell for Mechanicville and their defense did the rest in the shutout win over Stillwater.

Cruz Goverski, Scotty Lynch Ethan Raucci, Logan Starks and Alex Vogel, with his first varsity goal, all connected with scoring strikes.

Mechanicville keeper Mark Pingelski saved two shots and combined with the Mechanicville defense for the clean sheet.  

With the win Mechanicville moves to 4-0 on the year.

Waterford 2   Greenwich 0

The Fordians connected with a goal in each half and the Waterford defense pitched the shutout for the home victory under the lights at Fordian Stadium Wednesday night.

Payton Galuski put Waterford on the board in the 29th minute when she buried a penalty kick into the corner of the net for a 1-0 Fordian lead.

That score would stand until midway through the second half when Galuski lofted a corner kick that Jake Catanzarita put away with a header and Waterford closed out the “W”.

Fordian keeper Logan Kelly saved four shots in the win while Greenwich keeper Jack Sciescka turned back 10 attempts in the loss.  

Cambridge/Salem 4   Hoosic Valley 1

C/S ran out to a 3-0 halftime lead and notched the comfortable home victory over the Valley on Wednesday afternoon.

Early in the first half Tully Maher finished a Josh LaFountain through-ball and C/S took a 1-0 lead.

Minutes later it was Maher finding Luke Leblanc who found the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage and before the break, Rowan Ossant tallied off a LaFountain find as C/S took a 3-0 lead into intermission.

C/S capped the scoring early in the second half on a Maher header off an Alex Olsen cross.

Hoosic Valley avoided the shutout on a Landon Reilly tally late in the half.  

Mount Anthony 10   Hoosick Falls 1

In a 3-1 game at the break, Mt. Anthony exploded for seven second have tallies in notching the home “W” over the visitors from Hoosick Falls.

Emily Tibbetts’ hat trick led the way for the Patriots, while teammates Abby and Sadi Secora both added a pair of scoring strikes.

The Falls’ Emily DaRosa tallied for the Panthers lone goal in the match.

Hoosick Falls 3   Greenwich 2

The Panthers Aidan Fleming fired a one-under round of 34 leading Hoosick Falls past Greenwich in a match played at the Battenkill Country Club on Wednesday.

Brady Mann in flight three and Jack Shea in flight four along with Fleming, earned match wins for the Falls, while Greenwich’s Sam Ziehm, flight two Cooper Skiff in flight five picked up wins for the Witches.  

Hoosick Falls moves to 3-1 on the year with the “W”.

Tuesday Roundup: Mechanicville Gets Past the Falls to Stay Perfect

Mechanicville 3.5   Hoosick Falls 2.5

In a Tuesday afternoon get together in Mechanicville between two Wasaren golf powers, the home squad came away with the narrow “W” in a highly competitive match.

Logan Starks fired the low round of the day carding a 37 at the Mechanicville Golf Club.

In flight one Hoosick Falls’ Aiden Fleming and Mechanicville’s Matthew Salvadore finished all square, splitting the point.

The Falls picked up a point in flight two with Dylan Callahan topping Nate Salvadore 2 and 1, and in flight five where Spencer Tate prevailed over Ben Amato 4 and 2.

But Mechanicville posted individual wins in flight three, Jack Salvadore over Brady Mann 3 and 2, flight four where Logan Starks defeated Jack Shea 4 and 2, and in flight six with Jacob Pickett besting Devin Gauthier 3 and 2.

With the win Mechanicville improves to 6-0 on the season, while Hoosick Falls after the close loss moves to 2-1 on the year.

Cambridge 2   Hoosic Valley 1   OT

After a scoreless first half of action the Valley edged in front when Hannah Coffin finished a Sophia Akin feed giving the host squad a 1-0 advantage.

But Cambridge answered quickly knotting the score on an unassisted tally by Emily DeSouza and the match remaining deadlocked through regulation.  

In overtime Cambridge walked it off when Kelly Sweet connected for the game-winner off an Avery Benson indirect kick.

Between the posts Cambridge keeper Lexie Pedersen saved three shots while Lilli Ruepp turned back seven attempts for the Valley.

Greenwich 1   Fonda 0

In a tight, defensive match throughout, the Witches connected on the game’s lone goal when Taylor Poovey found the back of the net off a direct kick from 20 yards out giving Greenwich the well-earned road “W”.

Witches’ keeper Oliveah Reisel combined with the Greenwich defense led by Luna Weib, Brooke Kuzmich and Isabelle Miller, for the clean sheet.  

Tamarac 1   Scotia 1

Scotia broke on top just 10:24 into the match on a Madeline Vedder tally and the 1-0 lead that Scotia took into the break.

Tamarac pulled even early in the second half when Kylie Gross found Abby Acknee who finished with the final score of the match as both defensive units shut the door the rest of the way.

Mechanicville 5   Berlin/New Lebanon 0

Maddy Hopeck tallied twice with teammates Madison Daley, Gianna Pitts and Tanner Eiseman all adding single scoring strikes to lead Mechanicville past B/NL.

Boys Soccer; Mechanicville Rolls Past Cambridge-Salem

Mechanicville 7 Cambridge-Salem 0

Mechanicville connected on four goals before intermission and cruised to the shutout “W” over Cambridge-Salem in Mechanicville on Monday night.

Scotty Lynch and Cruz Goverski led the scoring parade for the home squad with two goals each, while teammates Alex Lacare, Declan Charette and Brady O’Connor all rang the bell with single scoring strikes.

Logan Starks and Rece Dyer assisted on two goals each for Mechanicville with Charlie Weiss and Graham Murphy assisting on singles tallies.

Mark Pingelski and Cam Morton combined for two saves and with the Mechanicville defense for the clean sheet.

Stillwater 0 Greenwich 0 OT

Defense took center stage as the two teams battled to a scoreless tie in Greenwich on Monday.

Greenwich held the advantage in shots on goal, 12-5 and corners 5-2.

The Witches keeper Jack Sciescza saved five shots in the match while Stillwater keeper Trystan O’Brien turned back nine attempts.

Hoosic Valley 8 Saratoga Catholic 1

Hoosic Valley scored five times before the break in posting the comfortable win over the Saints of Spa Catholic in soccer action on Monday.

Evan Maloney led the Valley attack with a hat trick while Owen Simpson added a pair of goals and Mason Speanburgh, Carter Simpson and Nate Durkin all connected for tallies as well.

Hoosic Valley keeper Travis Bleakley saves five shots in the win.

Girls Soccer

Mechanicville 7 Cooperstown 0

Maddy Hopeck connected on four scoring strikes in leading Mechanicville past Cooperstown in girls soccer on Sunday.

Anna Izzo, Gianna Pitts and Mia Beyer added single tallies for Mechanicville and keeper Ava Gimmick saved three shots and combined with the Mechanicville defense for the shutout.

Girls Soccer: Stillwater and Hoosic Valley Play to Ties

Stillwater 0   Bronxville 0

In a nonleague match at Stillwater on Sunday Bronxville and Stillwater batled toi a scoreless tie.

With defense the theme of the day Stillwater keepers Miranda Price and Ally Liamero combined for five saves and with the Stillwater defense for the shutout.

Lily Delaney and Elizabeth Heathwood combined for four saves between the posts for the visitors.

 

Hoosic Valley 1   Amsterdam 1

In action from Saturday, the Valley led 1-0 at the break on a Hannah Coffin direct kick, but Amsterdam pulled even after intermission when Jayla Waithe connected on a scoring strike, closing out the scoring in the match.

Mechanicville, Stillwater Post Soccer Wins

Mechanicville 6   Voorheesville 3

Holding a 2-1 lead at the break, Mechanicville scored four times after intermission to notch the high scoring “W” over the Blackbirds of Voorheesville.

Ethan Raucci led the Mechanicville attack with a hat trick while, Cruz Goverski, Scotty Lynch and Rece Dyer connected on single tallies.  Dyer assisted on a pair of scores with Lynch and Logan Starks assisting on a goal apiece.  

Eric Guilmette led Voorheesville with a pair of scores and Connor McMillian added a goal as well.

Mechanicville keeper Mark Pingelski saved three shots in the win.

 

Stillwater 3   O’Neil 0

Stillwater rode a stout defense and timely scoring to the non-league win over O’Neil in Stillwater on Saturday.

Brooke Coon and Hodgson staked the home squad to a 2-0, first half lead, and a single scoring strike by Sofia Perniciario off a Coon feed, midway through the second half capped the scoring in the match.

Stillwater keepers Miranda Price and Ally Liamero combined with the Stillwater defense for the clean sheet.

Stillwater moves to 2-0 on the young season with the “W”.

 

Hoosick Falls 5   Stillwater 0

The Panthers Aiden Fleming fired a one over par 37 to claim medalist honors and lead the Falls to their season-opening victory over Stillwater in golf action at Saratoga Lake Golf Club.

Top scores for Hoosick Falls included Dylan Callahan 42, Spencer Tate 44, Brady Mann 46, Devin Gauthier 47, Jack Shea 48, Aidyn Degraff 50 and Zach Houghton with a round of 51.

Top Stillwater scores included Tye Morris 44, Logan Pickett 46, Julian Peluso 48, Nick Rose 49, with Daniel Degrasse-Izzo and Myles Marinello both carding rounds of 54.

Hoosick Falls with play four straight days of matches next week starting with a home match on Monday when they welcome in the Fordians of Waterford,

 

 

 

Friday Results: Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley Gets Past Stillwater

Mechanicville/HV 14   Stillwater 7

Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley rode a strong rushing attack to the win with both DiMaggio Ferrara and Jordan Barnes running for 100 yards, and the M/HV defense did the rest in their Week 0 victory over neighboring Stillwater.

The visitors got on the board first when quarterback Aidan Callanan threw a 60-yard scoring strike for a 7-0 lead.

M/HV answered with a 3-yard TD run by Ferrara and the two squads went into the half knotted at 7-7. 

The only scoring of the second half came on a one-yard QB sneak by AJ Messercola giving the hosts a 14-7 advantage.

Late in the game Barnes broke off a 55-yard run allowing M/HV to run out the clock.

Next up for M/HV is a home matchup with divisional rival Hoosick Falls/Tamarac. 

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 21   Cohoes 3

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac eased out to a 13-3 halftime lead and shutout Cohoes over the second half to capture the “W” in the season-opener for both teams.

HF/T struck first on a 13-yard TD pass from Sam Fauler to Carson Glover and with the kick a 7-0 Wildcat lead.

After a Cohoes field goal early in the second period, it was Fauler again finding Glover from 25 yards out and after a failed two-point try HF/T took a 13-3 lead into the break.

The only points of the second half came on Fauler’s third touchdown strike of the night, this time connecting with Richie Stifter on a 54-yard TD throw and Trent Benedict ran in the two-point conversion giving the Wildcat’s a commanding 21-3 cushion.

Fauler finished the game 7 of 14 for 167 yards and three touchdowns, while R. McMahon paced the HF/T rushing attack gaining 76 yards on 21 carries.

Coxsackie-Athens 4   Hoosick Falls 0

Coxsackie ran out to a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised from there to the shutout win over Hoosick Falls in girls’ soccer action on Friday.

Danielle Deering scored a first half, hat trick and added a single tally after intermission to account for all the C-A offense.

C-A keeper Jasa Cruz saved seven shots in the match while Hoosick Falls keepers Lucy Haynes and Chaya Rhoden combined for nine saves in the loss.  

Cambridge-Salem 10   Hadley Luzerne 0

Luke Leblanc with a hat trick led the way to the one-sided victory in boys’ soccer for Cambridge-Salem.

Eight of Leblanc’s teammates added single scoring strikes in the road win for C-S.

Waterford 4   Hoosic Valley 1

Jonny Atwood fired the low round of 48 to lead the Fordians past the Valley in action at Fairways of Halfmoon.

Other top scores for Waterford included Dylan Day 50, Landon Pitcher 51, Tanner Machia 52 and Andrew O’Connor with a round of 59.

Top scores for Hoosic Valley were Jackson Schram and Keegan Antilock with rounds of 54, Ryan Morrissey 55 and Chris Tracy with a 56.  

With the win Waterford improves to 2-2 on the year while the Valley goes to 1-1 with the loss.

Nate Salvadore and Logan Starks shared medalist honors firing rounds of 39 for Mechanicville in the shutout of Greenwich in golf action at the Battenkill CC on Friday.

Also earning match wins for the visitors were Matt and Jack Salvadore, Ben Amato and Jacob Pickett.  

With the “W” Mechanicville moves to 5-0 on the season while Greenwich goes to 1-1 on the year.  

Boys Soccer: Mechanicville Posts Dominant Win Over Glens Falls

Mechanicville 5   Glens Falls 1

Mechanicville built a 2-0 lead by intermission and rang the bell three more times in the second half in posting the 5-1 “W” over Glens Falls in the season-opener.

Mechanicville opened the first half scoring on a Cruz Goverski header off a Logan Starks corner kick and minutes later Scotty Lynch split the posts on an indirect free kick from just outside the box giving Mechanicville a 2-0 advantage which they took into the break.

Mechanicville found the range three more times in the second half with Ethan Raucci, Graham Murphy and Landon Bronson all connecting on scoring tallies. 

Late in the match Glens Fals avoided the shutout when Gavin Rittenhouse found the back of the net for the Bears.

Mechanicville keepers Mark Pingelski and Cam Morton combined for three saves in the win while Tucker Trippiedi turned back seven shots for Glens Falls.
