Gloversville Tops the Saints

Gloversville scored four times in each half and pulled away for the road win in action at Saratoga on Monday.

Anna Murphy connected on four goals to lead Gloversville who held a slim 4-3 advantage at the halftime break.

Sydney Caracci’s hat trick and Ava Brown with a single scoring strike led the Saints attack.  

 

Saturday Recap: Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley Tops Cohoes,

Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley 34   Cohoes 22

M/HV used a 27-point second frame to build a 34-6 halftime advantage and held off Cohoes late to earn the road win on Saturday.

The visitors QB Jordan Barnes threw for 140 yards with scoring strikes to Marcus Robinson, Colin Richardson and Nate Hernadez to lead the attack. 

Robinson led the ground game for M/HV with 63 yards on seven carries while Hernadez and Barnes added rushing scores.   

 

Lake George/Warrensburg/Bolton 50   Stillwater 7

Stillwater led briefly in the first period when Jay Gannon connected with Lukas Lilac on a 40-yard TD pass for a 7-6 Stillwater lead.  

But the home squad quickly regained the lead and control building a 36-7 cushion by halftime and cruised to the win.

Ben Sheldon caught a touchdown pass and ran for two more, and quarterback Caden Allen had a running and throwing score to lead LG/W/B who with the victory move to 7-0 on the season.

 

Mechanicville 3   Voorheesville 1

Tom Wendel connected for a pair of goals, and Scotty Lynch added a single tally to lead Mechanicville past the Blackbirds of Voorheesville on Saturday.

Mechanicville keeper Joey Devito saved seven shots in the home “W” as Mechanicville finishes their regular season with a 14-1-1 mark.  

 

Cohoes 3   Waterford 2  2 OT

In the third annual Mohawk Cup Match Cohoes earned the victory in extra sessions with a Joe Trudeau tally on a night where Josh Catanzarita broke the Waterford boys scoring record with his 102nd career goal.

Tristan Carutasu added a goal for Waterford in the match while John Bobeck and Luca Grestini added tallies for Cohoes.

 

Cambridge 4   Hoosic Valley 0

Samantha Crandall scored a hat trick to lead Cambridge past the Hawks of Hoosic Valley on Saturday in Cambridge.

Kelley Sweet added a goal along with a pair of assists for the home squad, and keeper Lexie Pedersen saved two shots in posting the clean sheet.  

Saturday Morning Recap: Wildcats Top Schuylerville, Fordians Roll

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 19   Schuylerville 7

Trailing 7-6 at the half, HF/Tam scored 13 unanswered in the third frame and the Wildcats defense shut the door as the visitors handed the Black Horses their first loss of the season on the turf Friday night in Schuylerville.

The Wildcats took an early 6-0 lead when Sam Fauler found Richie Stifter on a 72-yard scoring strike, but Schuylerville quickly responded and took a 7-6 lead on a Martin Flanders Jr. 4-yard run.

Those would be the last points of the evening for the home squad as the Wildcats “D” took center stage.

But the Black Horses held that advantage into the third period when Fauler connected on his second throwing touchdown of the night, finding Carson Glover with a 28-yard throw and catch giving HF/Tam the lead at 12-7.

With seconds remaining in the period and Schuylerville driving, Stifter scooped a Black Horse fumble and took it to the house on a 93-yard gallop giving the Wildcats a 19-7 cushion and their defense closed things out for the “W”.  

With the HF/Tam win both teams sit at 6-1 on the season.

Eight Fordians rang the bell led by Josh Catanzarita’s six-goal afternoon in Waterford’s one-sided decision over the Saints.

Joining in the scoring onslaught were Logan Sheehan with two goals, and Chris Brown, Matt Soden, Jake Catanzarita, Christian Penk and Zach Kalinowski all connected with single strikes.

With the win Waterford secures a Co-Wasaren League championship with Mechanicville.

The Fordian defense pitched another shutout and eighth-grader Payton Galuski found the back of the net three times to lead Waterford to the home “W” on Friday.

Mia O’Brien scored twice and Cassidy McClement and Izzy Vecchio added single goals in the Fordian victory.  

Waterford keeper Maddy Atwood saved 11 shots including a PK as the Fordians posted their eighth clean sheet in their last 10 outings.  

 

Stillwater, Bengals, Saints Post Soccer Wins

Bridget Coon and Karissa Mitchell connected for goals and the Stillwater keepers and defense did the rest in Stillwater’s road win on Thursday.

Stillwater keepers Miranda Price and Charisma Salecker both saved one shot in posting the clean sheet.

 

Saratoga Catholic 5   Watervliet/Heatly 0

The Saints rode a four-goal first half to the victory over Watervliet/Heatly.

Sydney Caracci and Addison Quail both tallied twice, and Allison Fuller added a single scoring strike to lead the Saints attack.

Mechanicville, Valley Notch Wins, Fleming Tops in Section II Tourney

Hoosick Falls’ Aiden Fleming fired a one-under 71, five shots better than his closest competitor, earning medalist honors in the Section II class C/D tourney at Fairways of Halfmoon on Tuesday.  Aiden along with 13 other golfers from C/D with move on to the next round of the state qualifier on 10/17 against 10 golfers from Class B and the top 25% from Class A.

In team competition Schuylerville placed first with a score of 244 while Mechanicville and Hoosick Falls both scored 265, with Mechanicville winning the tie breaker to finish second with the Panthers in third.  Team scores are determined by the top three golfers scores.

Mechanicville rang the bell five times before the break in cruising to the one-sided decision over the Saints Wednesday night in Mechanicville.

Tom Wendel connected on a hat trick, with Cruz Goverski, Charlie Weiss and Raiden Westad all adding single tallies for Mechanicville.

Joey Devito, 2 saves, combined with the Mechanicville “D” for the clean sheet.

 

Hoosic Valley 5  Tamarac 0

In a tight game in Schaghticoke where the Valley held a slim 1-0 lead at the break, the home squad opened things up in the second half finding the range on four scoring strikes to notch the win over the visiting Bengals.

A Gabe Coffin goal off an Isaac Wiley find staked the Hawks to the 1-0 advantage heading into intermission.

But 15 minutes after the break the Valley started their four-goal run when Coffin found Wiley on a thru ball for the 2-0 lead.  

Minutes later the tandem doubled down with Wiley splitting the posts and the Valley led 3-0.

With 15 minutes remaining it was Coffin’s turn, taking a nice feed from Austin Brown and finding the back of the net for the 4-0 cushion.

Finally, with 10:00 to play Wiley completed his hat trick off an Andy Thompson pass, sealing the Valley ‘W” in both teams’ final regulars season match.

 

Cambridge 2   Emma Willard 0

In Cambridge on Wednesday Samantha Crandall and Mia Alpy connected on scoring strikes and keeper Lexi Pedersen and the Cambridge defense made those stand in the 2-0 victory over Emma Willard. 

Pedersen needed just one save in the Cambridge shutout who with the win evened their season mark at 7-7 overall.  

 

 

 

Tuesday Results: Fleming Wins Section Tourney, Waterford Edges Stillwater

Hoosick Falls’ Aiden Fleming fired the low round of one-under 71 on Tuesday in the Sectional II Class C/D Tournament at Fairways of Halfmoon to claim medalist honors.  Aiden along with 13 other golfers from Class C/D will move on to compete in the next round of the state qualifier on Tuesday 10/17 against 10 golfers from Class B and the top 25% from Class A.

In team competition, where the top three golfers scores are totaled, Schuylerville with a score of 244 won the C/D classification while Mechanicville and Hoosick Falls both scored 265 but Mechanicville won the tiebreaker to place second with the Panthers finishing third.

In a match played Tuesday night in Stillwater with scoring opportunities hard to come by, the Fordians Peyton Galuski, off a feed from sister Abby, connected for the only goal of the match and the Waterford defense made it stand, as the Fordians prevailed with the narrow “W” over Stillwater.

Waterford keeper Maddy Atwood saved four shots in the win while Stillwater keepers Miranda Price and Charisma Salecker both stopped three Fordian attempts. 

Berlin/New Lebanon 3     Hoosic Valley 0

The Mountain Lions held a 1-0 lead at intermission and added a pair of tallies after the break to post the home victory over the Valley on Senior Night.

Late in the first half Anna Hart put away a deflected shot from Haylee Jones giving the home squad the 1-0 advantage.

After the break Jones extended the lead on an unassisted strike that found the upper corner, and later Jones connected on the final score of the match off a nice find from Riley Robertson.  

The Mountain Lions will wrap up their regular season on Thursday facing Hoosick Falls on the road.  

Mekkel Christian 7   Spa  Catholic 1

Mekeel Christian put the game away with five, second half goals, led by Hannah Wilkinson who finished with a hat trick.

Grace Shaefer tallied after the break for the Saints only score.

Cambridge 2   Coxsackie-Athens 1

Cambridge used a pair of unassisted goals form Ashley Moses and Nicole Robinson to get past Coxsackie-Athens on Monday. 

Lexi Pedersen saved seven shots for Cambridge in the win.   

Tuesday Morning Roundup: Mechanicville, Waterford Earn Wins

Mechanicville 8   Cambridge 0

Mechanicville exploded for six goals after the break and coasted to the home victory over Cambridge on Monday in boys soccer.

Jacob Eiseman and Rece Dyer both connected on a pair of scores while Logan Starks, Brody Bergeron-Waite and Tom Wendel all added single tallies for the home squad.

The eighth goal was an own goal by Cambridge.

Mechanicville keeper Joey Devito with four saves, combined with the Mechanicville defense for the clean sheet.

 

Waterford 2   Stillwater 1

In a close game throughout, Waterford used a goal in each half to slip past Stillwater for the road win Monday night.

Midway through the first half Mason Noto converted off a rebound giving the Fordians a 1-0 advantage that they took into the halftime break.

With 15:00 remaining Waterford extended their lead when Logan Sheehan found Josh Catanzarita for the finish and the 2-0 cushion.

Five minutes later a ball that Waterford was attempting to clear deflected off Stillwater’s Landon Staie, finding the Waterford net, trimming the deficit to 2-1 with 10:00 to play.  But Waterford shut the door for the remainder, denying all scoring chances to post the “W”.

Fordian keeper Logan Kelly saved six shots in the win, while Stillwater keeper David Giso turned back 16 attempts in the match.

Second half goals by Paige Taylor and Teagan Cutter propelled Granville past Saratoga Catholic in girls’ soccer on Monday at Galvin Park in Saratoga.
