Tuesday Morning Roundup: Mechanicville, Waterford Earn Wins

Mechanicville 8   Cambridge 0

Mechanicville exploded for six goals after the break and coasted to the home victory over Cambridge on Monday in boys soccer.

Jacob Eiseman and Rece Dyer both connected on a pair of scores while Logan Starks, Brody Bergeron-Waite and Tom Wendel all added single tallies for the home squad.

The eighth goal was an own goal by Cambridge.

Mechanicville keeper Joey Devito with four saves, combined with the Mechanicville defense for the clean sheet.

 

Waterford 2   Stillwater 1

In a close game throughout, Waterford used a goal in each half to slip past Stillwater for the road win Monday night.

Midway through the first half Mason Noto converted off a rebound giving the Fordians a 1-0 advantage that they took into the halftime break.

With 15:00 remaining Waterford extended their lead when Logan Sheehan found Josh Catanzarita for the finish and the 2-0 cushion.

Five minutes later a ball that Waterford was attempting to clear deflected off Stillwater’s Landon Staie, finding the Waterford net, trimming the deficit to 2-1 with 10:00 to play.  But Waterford shut the door for the remainder, denying all scoring chances to post the “W”.

Fordian keeper Logan Kelly saved six shots in the win, while Stillwater keeper David Giso turned back 16 attempts in the match.

 

Granville 2   Spa Catholic 0

Second half goals by Paige Taylor and Teagan Cutter propelled Granville past Saratoga Catholic in girls’ soccer on Monday at Galvin Park in Saratoga.
