Tamarac Boys Basketball Preview

47_tamarac

In our first installment of team previews for basketball teams of the Wasaren we’ll start in Clums Corners with a look at the Tamarac boys under head coach Eric Medved.

Medved, who had a successful run with the girls program in Tamarac a few years back, takes the rein of a boys team that is showing signs and fueling optimism in the Corners.

The Bengals will put a gritty, athletic squad on the floor and use that athleticism to showcase their strengths.

A trio of returning players in sophomore guard Bo Catherwood, senior forward Ryan Derby and senior guard Frank Zotto give Tamarac an experienced nucleus.

A handful of Wasaren squads stepped on the floor Friday night as the new season got underway with non-league runs that saw the Mechanicville girls and the Saratoga Catholic boys post season opening “W’s”.

Jimmer Continues to Roll

jim head shot

After his pouring in 75 points in a game 10 days ago Jimmer Fredette has been just average in his last four outings.  With games of 33, 36, 41 and 43 points scored, the Glens Falls native averaged 38.3 over that span which is identical to his scoring average for the season, good for third place in the CBA.

Nothing average about that type of production and that goes for his shooting percentages as well.

On the year Fredette is shooting .514 from the floor, .464 from three point range, and .957 from the charity stripe.  He hands out 5.8 assists per game and pulls down 5.9 rebounds per contest while leading the league in steals at 3.6 per outing.

His Shanghai Sharks squad is presently 10-4 on the season with their next game on Friday where Fredette will step on the floor and in typical fashion drop 35-40 points.  A monster night for most, continues to be just an ordinary night in China for the Lonely God.

Basketball Season Draws Near

girlsbball-300x195

Thinking back to my time as a player and coach, it always seemed to me that basketball season ramped up once we had snow in the air.  I know, it makes little sense but in my mind that first snowfall meant the season that I so enjoyed was on.  With the white stuff blanketing our area overnight it means it’s on indeed.

High school teams move into the second phase of their basketball year over the next few days when they take the floor for scrimmages.

As player I used to love scrimmages as they gave you opportunity to go against teams and players from others leagues.  At the Valley back in the day we’d travel to Hudson Falls, Glens Falls, Lansingburgh and always cross the river for a run with the Red Raiders of Mechanicville in their old gym which was a great venue.
