Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

Congratulations to Berlin’s Ryan Willis on being named this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Ryan poured in 58 points over two games this past week, with 30 points on Wednesday against North Warren and two nights later the senior guard scored his 1000th career point on a second period 3-pointer in Argyle, part of a 28 point performance by the Mountaineer standout.

Through six games this season Willis is averaging 27.7 points per game for the 1-5 Berlin squad.

Congratulation to Ryan, out newest recipient of the Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Mechanicville, Valley Post Wins

On a night with five Wasaren girls squads in action, Hoosic Valley and Mechanicville handled their business earning non-league wins in holiday tourney play.

Mechanicville 71  St. Dominic 53

Leading Scorers:  Red Raiders – Taylor Grayson 19  (5, 3’s)    Charli Goverski 18     Sammy Pasinella 14           St. Dominic – Buanaguro  22      Goldberg 14

Keys:  Leading 29-21 at the break the Red Raiders put 42 points on the board in the second half to pull away from St. Dominic of Long Island.  Mechanicville shot well from distance bottoming nine triples led by Grayson who knocked back five. Continue reading

With the Wasaren teams heading into the holiday break I thought it was a good time for our first Blazing Five of the basketball season where we’ll list the top five league players and teams in a variety of categories.  As we all know you can play with statistics and make them say what you’d like, but here are some numbers from the first four weeks of the roundball season.

Girls Basketball; Indians, Bengals Roll

There was a full slate of action for the Wasaren girls on the Wednesday before the holiday break, with just one game decided by less than 10 points.  Tamarac and Cambridge with wins stayed unbeaten in league play while Hoosic Valley, Mechanicville and Waterford posted “W’s” as well.

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Emily Erickson 18    Renna Poulin 8     Warriors – Peacock 6

Summary:  The Bengals held Stillwater to single numbers in each quarter, led this one 36-11 at the break and cruised the victory. Continue reading

Wasaren Sportsnet’s Basketball Webcast Schedule

Here is the tentative schedule of basketball webcasts that Wasaren Sportsnet will broadcast this year.  Many thanks to Mechanicville and Hoosic Valley for allowing me to broadcast from their venues.

I’m looking for advertising help to make this happen.

In the fall for our football webcasts we’ve been so fortunate to have New Country Toyota of Clifton Park, The Connor’s Agency,  Wiley Brothers, Bonnier’s, Legends Barbershop, Great American Opportunities. The Community Nursery School, DeVito Salvadore Funeral Home, and Val’s advertise with us for years.  We’re now looking for a winter line-up of businesses for the basketball season. Continue reading
