Leading Scorers:  Indians – Sophie Phillips 22 (5 3’s)      Lily Phillips 11       Panthers – Logan Thayne 15

In a close game throughout the Indians defense kept the Panthers in the 30’s while Phillips twins combined for 33 points themselves in notching the “W” in a battle of undefeated squads.

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Molly Brophy 29         Valley – Ashlyn Chartier 13        Sam Lanoue 11

Greenwich led 12-7 after one, and closed with a 15-10 fourth period to get past the Indians in Schaghticoke.  Brophy’s 29 was fueled by four triples, and 7 of 10 from the free throw line.

Panthers Defeat Cambridge

It was just another Friday night at the office for the Hoosick Falls Panthers.  After suffering through a poor shooting first period that ended with Cambridge holding a 14-10 lead, the Falls did what they do, which is everything well, outscoring the Indians 45-18 over the middle two quarters in posting the 69-44 road “W”.

Both teams scored on their first possession of the night, Tristan Williams for the Falls with Nick Murphy answering for Cambridge, then the two squads went cold with the next points in the game coming at the 4:30 mark on a Ben Epler corner three, giving Cambridge a 5-2 lead.

With the game tied at 8-8 late in the quarter, the Indians used a pair of long balls from Brian Hall and Epler, to take a 14-10 advantage into the second frame. Continue reading

The Raider won every quarter, led 35-19 at the break and put the game away with a 22-2 third period, moving to 4-0 on the year with the “W”.

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

67_hoosickfalls2Congratulations to Hoosick Falls basketball player Jon Kempf on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

On Friday night, in the Panthers 76-52 win over Tamarac, Jon scored 33 points and became the all-time boys career scoring leader at Hoosick Falls passing Howie Dewey ’85.

On the year the senior guard is averaging 33.5 points per game for the 4-0 Hoosick Falls squad.

Indians, Mountaineers Post Wins

Leading Scorers: Indians – Sophie Phillips 26    Lily Phillips 12    Fiona Mooney 11    Bengals – Jordyn Sorel 11

Cambridge ran out to a 27-8 lead after the first eight minutes and rode that cushion to a season-opening “W” in Clum’s Corners on Wednesday night.  The Indians bottomed 10 triples in the contest with Sophie Phillips connecting six times and Fiona Mooney recorded a double-double, matching her point total with 11 rebounds.

 

Berlin/New Lebanon 42  Heatly 30

Leading Scorers:  Mountaineers – Shawn Pawlows 12       Heatly – Chaton Sagendorf 16

The Mountaineers outscored Heatly 25-11 over the middle two frames and went on the notch the comfortable non-league victory.  Malachi Ritter added seven points and 10 rebounds for the 1-1 Berlin/New Lebanon squad.

The Falls scored 30 points in the first eight minutes to take control, cruising to their third win in as many outings.  Kempf and Williams combine for 56 points, and Isiah Burnett adds seven points and eight assists for the potent Panther attack.

Leading Scorers:  Red Raiders – Devin Garland 14    Luciano D’Ambro 13        Duanesburg – Zachary Gamache 15    Andrew Dreschek 12

Mechanicville built a 34-18 advantage by halftime in posting the “W” in their season-opener.  The Raiders won every quarter, and went deep into their bench with 11 players scoring.

 

Hoosick Falls 59  Albany Academy 40

Leading Scorers: Panthers – Logan Thayne 36     Maddie Walker 9     AA – Aaliyah Juste 17 Marlee Ottati 11

The Falls trailed 21-20 after the first, and the teams were tied 27 all at the break, but the Panthers outscored Academy 32-13 after intermission to earn the win behind a monster night from Thayne.

 

Saratoga Catholic 54  Whitehall 46

Leading Scorers:  Saints – Ashley Upton 16    Molly O’Reilly 13       Railroaders – Madison Gould 19    Kyrie Smith 14

The Saints bottomed six 3-pointers, and had nine players score in the non-league victory over the Railroaders.

 

Greenwich 65  Schoharie 46

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Molly Brophy 24    Norah Niesz 14      Schoharie – Hannah Cater 29

Greenwich won every period, taking control with a 24 point second quarter in running their season mark to 2-0.

 

 

 

 

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

waterford logoCongratulations to Waterford basketball player Michael Talavera on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Talavera opened the season with a 34 point effort in a 105-20 victory over Heatly in the first round of the Waterford Tip-Off Tournament and poured in 27 points the next night in the Fordians 75-53 win over Salem.

This past Friday the senior guard scored 27 points including four triples, in the Fordians 64-63 win over Schoharie.
