Congratulations to Hoosic Valley’s cross country runner Carrie Burnell for being named  this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

In a three team meet on Tuesday Carrie won the girls race leading the Valley to wins over Mechanicville and Stillwater.

Burnell covered the 2.8 mile course in 18:29 to pace Hoosic Valley who had six of the first seven runners to cross the finish line.

Congratulations to Carrie, this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Boys Soccer:

Tamarac 5  Hoosick Falls 4 OT:  The Bengals Max Ali scored four goals, his last coming early in the second overtime session, leading Tamarac the narrow “W” over Hoosick Falls.

Ali beat two defenders and found the back of the net in the second overtime capping a four goal outing, with Miles Ednie also finding the range for Tamarac.

Zach Cahill, Connor Jones, Matt LaPorte, Daniel Louis Charles and all tallied in the match for Hoosick Falls.

Stillwater Posts Indian Bowl Win

stillwater warriorMake it three years in a row that the Stillwater Warriors have walked off the field victorious in their annual Indian Bowl Matchup with neighboring rival Mechanicville.  The walk offs have come on three different fields over the three year  stretch with the game results as different as the venues.

Two years ago Stillwater won close in Mechanicville, last year it was a blowout in Stillwater, and last night somewhere in between at Tamarac high school. Continue reading

Wasaren Girls Soccer

Stillwater 6  Hoosick Falls 1:  The Stillwater girls continued their torrid start to the season, scoring three first half goals to take control on their way to the easy “W” over the Panthers of Hoosick Falls.

Brooke Pickett’s hat trick led the potent Warrior attack, with Teya Staie, Keelyn Pickett, and Brianna McLaughlin adding singles strikes, while Devon Wagner handed out a trio of assists.  Continue reading

Hoosick Falls Shuts Down Galway

Hoosick Falls scored four times in the first half of play and cruised to the easy victory over Galway in Hoosick Falls on Tuesday.

Phobe Thompson scored a hat trick to lead the Panthers attack, while Grace Wysocki added two goals and two assists, and Olivia Brownell’s goal rounded out the scoring for the Falls.

Maddy Yeung saved three shots to earn the shutout as the Panthers improve to 0-2, 2-2 with the win.

 

Cambridge-Salem Rolls in Season-Opener

cambridge07After winning back to back state championships in Class D the Cambridge football team, with additional players from Salem, moves to Class C competition and while their competition on Saturday was a Class D squad, I think the Indians will fare well in their new classification.

Flashing a stable of backs that can take it the distance at any time, running behind a strong, experienced O-line the Indians cruised past Hoosic Valley 41-7 in Cambridge on Saturday. Continue reading

Tamarac 32  Cohoes 8:  The Bengals Peyton Nelean ran for 92 yards and two scores to lead Tamarac past Cohoes in the season-opener.

Bengal quarterback Bo Catherwood threw scoring strikes of 1 and 36 yards to Frank Zotto, and Spencer Yetto added an 8-yard TD run for Tamarac who led 32-0 at the break.

 

Mechanicville 6  Greenwich 0:  Mechanicville’s quarterback Dan Motta scored the games only points on a 6-yard touchdown run in the final period as the Red Raiders notched the “W” in the week one defensive battle. Continue reading

Stillwater Runs Past Granville

stillwater warriorA season ago the Stillwater football team posted an 8-2 mark, making it all the way to the Class C Super Bowl.  With the Warriors successful 2017 campaign as the backdrop, there are high expectations in Stillwater this fall.  After their effort Friday night in the season-opener against Granville, it appears the Warriors are indeed primed for a special year.

Junior running back Mason Seymour ran for 181 yards and three touchdowns leading Stillwater to a dominant 48-0 decision over the Golden Horde. Continue reading

Friday Morning Roundup

Boys and girls soccer along with a pair of golf matches played out on Thursday in the Wasaren as all sports ramp up with football kicking off this weekend.

Boys Soccer

Stillwater 5  Waterford 4 OT:  The Warriors Grant Baker scored a hat trick before the break, and saved the game-winner for the overtime period, as Stillwater got past the Fordians of Waterford.

Josh Luca added a first half score for the Warriors, while Waterford connected on a Hunter Guertin PK and a strike from Jack O’Brien off a corner as the teams went to halftime with Stillwater holding a 4-2 advantage.

Second half goals from Tyler Galanearu and Zach Soden knotted things at 4-4 setting up Bakers game-winner in the extra session.

With the win Stillwater improves to 1-0, 3-0 while Waterford goes to 0-1, 0-1 with the tough loss. Continue reading
