Wasaren Sportsnet Players of the Week

67_hoosickfalls2Congratulations to a pair of Hoosick Falls Panthers, Lizza Ryan and Guy Milliman, our newest recipients of the Wasaren Player of the Week award.

Last week Lizza scored eight points in a 53-45 win over Cambridge, and poured in 17 points in a 52-45 defeat of Greenwich on Friday.  The senior guard is averaging 11.2 points per game for the 5-0 Panthers.

Guy dropped 23 points in a 53-45 “W” over Cambridge, and scored 14 points in a Friday night run helping the Falls cruise past Greenwich 74-36.  The junior guard is scoring 17.5 nightly in leading the Panthers to a 4-0 start to the season.

Girls Basketball Stats

I like numbers.  Always have, and I understand at times you can make them say whatever you’d like.  But there’s also truth in numbers, and in the sports world analytics are taking over.

These numbers certainly aren’t to that extent, but provide a look at individuals, and teams in a few important categories.  We can see that Mechanicville likes to shoot three’s, and that Greenwich has two of the top 10 scorers in the Wasaren, and as always the numbers show us that the Valley can guard. Girls Basketball; Valley Tops Greenwich

The four Wasaren runs Tuesday night resulted in three one-sided affairs, while Hoosic Valley and Greenwich played to a five point decision.

Hoosic Valley 40  Greenwich 35:  In a defensive battle between a pair of unbeaten squads in league play, the Valley used a 12-5 third period advantage to gain control, on their way to the victory over the Witches. Continue reading

Friday Night Hoops; Warriors Win in OT

A full slate of action in boys and girls basketball on Friday night with an overtime decision in Saratoga highlighting the results.

Stillwater 74  Saratoga Catholic 66 OT:  In a shootout that needed extra minutes to decide things, the Warriors pulled away in overtime out scoring the Saints 11-3 to capture the road victory. Continue reading

Girls Basketball

Cambridge 0-1 @ Hoosic Valley 2-2:  Cambridge has only played one time this season, a 50-31 loss to Greenwich.  Helen Mooney and Grace Snyder lead the Indians offense that will be tested tonight against the Valley man D.

Hoosic Valley will play it’s fifth game on the year and are led in scoring by Cami Hren and Alex Rifenburg who combine for 17 nightly.  This is another night where the Valley defense will secure the “W”.

 

Hoosick Falls 2-0 @ Waterford 0-3:  The Fordians have had trouble scoring the ball in the early going averaging just 20 points per game, with their leading scorer Hannah Camfield at 5.5. Continue reading

Girls Basketball, Witches Raiders Win Big

th1Opening night in league play saw Greenwich and Mechanicville post convincing wins on a Friday where all four contests were decided by wide margins.
