Friday Night Football; Stillwater Wins Indian Bowl

Stillwater 34  Mechanicville 7:  Stillwater quarterback James Galarneau threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another, leading the Warriors to the easy victory over Mechanicville in the annual Indian Bowl matchup.

Stillwater scored the only points of the first period on a Mason Seymour touchdown run and the Warriors took the 7-0 lead.

Stillwater gained control in the second quarter on a pair of touchdowns strikes from Galarneau, when the senior QB connected with Ryan Greene from 19 yards out and followed with a 25-yard throw and catch for points to Isaac Cutler.

After the break Galarneau scored on a 44-yard jaunt, extending the Warrior lead to 27-0 after three periods, and in the final period Seymour  capped the Stillwater scoring with his second rushing touchdown of the game from a yard out.

Mechanicville avoided the shutout on a Joe Sanchez 7-yard scoring run, for the final points of the night before the big crowd in Stillwater.

Galarneau and Seymour both topped 100 rushing yards in the game and Brian McNeil with six tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles led a dominating Warrior defense.

With the win Stillwater goes to 6-0 on the year and will wrap it’s regular season next Friday at home against Fonda.

Mechanicville slips to 2-4 with the loss and will finish their regular season at Tamarac on Friday.

Girls Soccer; Stillwater, Mechanicville Stay Hot

Stillwater 2  Hoosic Valley 0: After a scoreless first half, Kate McEvoy and Brooke Pickett connected on scoring strikes to lead the Warriors to their 9th straight victory, running their season mark to 13-0-1.

Stillwater keeper Kiersten Conroy saved three and combined with the Warrior defense for the shutout, Stillwater’s fifth of the year.

 

Mechanicville 5  Waterford 0:  The Red Raiders scored all five goals before the break in cruising past the Fordians.

Brynn Murphy scored a hat trick, Jada Brown added a pair of goals and Nevaeh D’Alioa tallied as well to lead the Raider attack.

Mechanicville keeper Savannah Bowie turned back four shots and with the Raider “D” combined for the shutout victory, their 8th straight as the Raiders move to 9-3 overall on the season.

 

Cambridge 4  Berlin 0:  The Indians held a slim 1-0 advantage at halftime but scored three unanswered after the break in posting the comfortable “W” over the Mountaineers.

Lily Phillips, Vanessa Evans, Sophie Phillips and Lily Gates all connected with second half strikes as the Indians with the win improve to 9-3 on the year.

 

Hoosick Falls 3  Spa Catholic 2:  Phoebe Thompson scored twice, and Caroline Cipperly also found the back of the net, as the Panthers slipped past the Saints.

Lauren Mahar tallied in the first half for Spa Catholic, who trailed 2-1 at the break.

 

Tamarac 4  Greenwich 0:  The Bengals rang the bell with four first half goals and coasted to the home win over the Witches.

Abby Buckley scored a pair, and Bre Eversten and Ashley Kelley added single goals to lead Tamara offensively.

Tamarac keeper Jenna Hint saved eight, and combined with the Tamarac defense for the shutout as the Bengals move to 6-4-1 on the season.

Boys Soccer; Mechanicville Continues Streak

Mechanicville 3 Waterford 0: Quietly over the past three seasons the Mechanicville boys soccer team has strung together an impressive winning streak in Wasaren play that extended to 37 straight with the defeat of the Fordians in Waterford Thursday night.

After a scoreless first half Brandt St. Gelais, Zac Rapaccioulo, and Wyqui Agunda all found the back of the net for the Raiders who move to 6-0 in league play this season, with an 8-4 overall mark.

Zach White, 3 saves, and the Mechanicville defense combined for the shutout of Waterford who go to 9-2-1 overall with the loss.

 

Stillwater 3 Hoosic Valley 0: The Warriors used single tallies by Grant Baker, Harry Rubenstein and Jack Rubenstein to slip past the Indians of Hoosic Valley.

Stillwater held a 1-0 advantage at the break and put the game away with two unanswered in the second half.

Warrior keeper Tim Buchal saved four shots and with the Stillwater “D” notched the shutout.
The Warriors improve to 4-3, 9-3 on the year while the Valley goes to 1-6, 4-9-1.

 

Tamarac 4 Greenwich 2: The Bengals ran out to a 2-0 halftime lead and used that cushion to hold off the Witches for the home victory on Thursday.
Dylan Briccetti with a hat trick and Miles Ednie with a single scoring strike paced Tamarac offensively.                                                                                                                               soccer-ball1
AJ Rymph and Liam Niesz found the range for the two Greenwich scores after the break.
Tamarac, with the win improves to 6-1, 9-1 and Greenwich slips to 4-1-1, 9-2-1 with the loss.

 

Spa Catholic 8 Hoosick Falls 0: The Saints rang the bell four times in each half in coasting to the easy shutout “W” over the Panthers.

Spa’s Dante Marin scored four goals, Ben Urbaetis added a pair and Matthew Apy and Jordan Catone rounded out the Saints attack with single strikes.                                 Saratoga Catholic improves to 3-5-1, 5-6-2 on the year.

Stillwater 5  Greenwich 2:  Stillwater jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead, on their way to the road victory over the Witches.

Brooke Pickett scored four goals, three coming before the break, and Keelyn Peacock added a second half tally to lead the Warriors.

Faith Ingber scored both goals in the match for Greenwich.

 

Cambridge 5  Tamarac 3:  In a 2-2 game at the break, Cambridge dominated play in the second half to notch the home “W”.

Vanessa Evans with three goals and Lily Phillips with a pair of scores paced the Cambridge attack.

Taylor Smith with two goals and Sophie Champagne with one led the Bengals.

 

Mechanicville 5  Hoosick Falls 0:  The Raiders ran out to a 2-0 lead at the half and cruised to the road win over the Panthers.

Jada Brown scored two goals and Brynn Murphy, Olivia Horan and Madelyn Shakow all added single strikes for Mechanicville who notched their seventh straight “W”.

Savannah Bowie, with eight saves, combined with the Mechanicville defense for the shutout.

Greenwich 14  Mechanicville 0:  A pair of first quarter touchdowns by the Witches were the only points of the game, but proved to be enough for Greenwich to slip past the visitors from Mechanicville Friday night.

Just three plays into the contest sophomore quarterback Jesse Kuzmich found Luke Pemrick on a 24-yard touchdown connection and the Witches took the 7-0 lead.

On the next Greenwich possession the Witches capped a seven play drive when Kuzmich threw a 26-yard scoring strike to Aiden McPhail for the 14-0 advantage.

From there, both defensive units took control, highlighted by a goal line stand from Greenwich late in the fourth period, stopping the Red Raiders on four straight runs from the Witches 1-yard line. Continue reading →

Thursday Soccer Roundup

Mechanicville 11 Hoosic Valley 1:  TJ Bisallion and Tyler Tesoriero scored three goals each to lead the Raiders to the one-sided decision over the Valley Thursday night in Mechanicville.

Joining the Raider scoring parade were Wyqui Agunda with two goals and Andrew Kraszewski, Jake LaFountain and Brandt St.Gelais with single tallies.

Jake Cavert connected for the Valley’s lone score.

With the win Mechanicville improves to 5-0, 7-4 on the year.

 

Stillwater 5  Cambridge 1:  Five different players found the back of the net for Stillwater in the comfortable win over the Indians.

Isaac Cutler, Harry Rubenstein, Jack Rubenstein, Grant Baker and Brandon DeBacco with scoring strikes led the Warriors attack.

Obi Baker-Porazinski tallied in the first half for Cambridge.

The Warriors move to 3-3, 7-3 with the victory, while Cambridge slips to 2-3-1, 7-3-1 with the defeat.

 

Greenwich 3  Spa Catholic 1:  In a game knotted 1-1 at the half, Charlie Gartner and AJ Rymph both connected for scores after the break leading the Witches to the “W”.

Gartner added a first half strike, as did the Saints Aiden Khoury in the match played at Gavin Park in Saratoga.

Greenwich moves to 4-0-1, 9-1-1 with the “W”, and Spa Catholic falls to 1-4-1, 3-7-1 with the loss.

 

Waterford 5  Hoosick Falls 0:  Nate Powell’s hat trick showed the way for the Fordians in their road victory over the Panthers.

Jason Cordts and Tyler Galarneau added goals for the Fordians and Jake Houle with five saves combined with the Waterford defense for the shutout as the Fordian squad improves their season mark to 8-1-1.

Soccer Results; Warriors, Raiders Post Wins

Stillwater 11  Berlin 0:  Eight Warriors found the back of the net in Stillwater’s one-sided road victory over Berlin.

Brooke Picket led the assault with four goals, while Khali Lux, Devon Wagner, Keelyn Peacock, Kelly Moran, Gianna Moraci, Trinity Cutler and Sidney Frank all added single strikes.

Kiersten Conroy with four saves and the Stillwater “D” combined for the shutout as the Warriors improve their season mark to 10-0-1.

 

Mechanicville 3  Greenwich 0:  Jada Brown, Ryleigh Hopeck and Brynn Murphy all connected for scores and Savannah Bowie, (five saves ), and the Raider defense combined to earn the shutout over the Witches.

With the “W” Mechanicville moves to 6-3 on the year, winners of five straight.

 

Tamarac 4  Waterford 2:  Vanessa Baldwin with two goals and Shannon Ryan and Bre Eversten will singles strikes led the Bengals to the road victory over Waterford on Monday.

Mackenzie Koniszewski and Addyson Galuski with a goal each paced the Fordians attack.

Another weekend of girls soccer action for Wasaren teams at Afrim’s Sports Complex.

Stillwater 8  Tamarac 1:  The Warriors built a 5-0 lead by halftime and coasted to the non-league victory over Tamarac.

Brooke Pickett with four goals and Teya Staie with a pair led the Stillwater offense.  Paige Brinsko and Trinity Cutler added single strikes for Stillwater who moves to 9-0-1 on the year.

Tamarac avoided the shutout when Sophie Champagne connected on a second half goal.

 

Cambridge 8  Canajoharie 0:  The Indians held a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break, then exploded for six second half scores in the one-sided decision over Canjo.

Five different Indians found the range in the match with Vanessa Evans leading the way with a hat trick.  Sophie Phillips added a pair of strikes, and Anna Headwell, Sydney Benson and Ruth Nolan all notched single tallies for 5-3 Cambridge squad. Continue reading →

Witches Roll to Third Straight

73_greenwichEvery high school football weekend a typical spectator takes in one, or possibly two games.  Obviously that pace limits the number of teams one can put their eyes on, so we all form opinions on teams we haven’t seen based on scores, matchups and common opponents.

For me Greenwich was one of the teams I had not seen this year, and I wasn’t sure what to think about the Witches.  Carrying a 2-1 record coming into Saturday’s gave at Hoosic Valley, Greenwich had lost to Cambridge – Salem and posted wins over Granville and Hoosick Falls putting 48 points on the Panthers in the win.

Yesterday in Schaghticoke, Greenwich won their third straight with an easy 38-6 victory over the Indians, showing to me and anyone else paying attention, that the Witches are a very good football team. Continue reading →

Mechanicville 5  Cambridge 1:  In a game Mechanicville led 1-0 at the break, the Raiders scored four goals over the first fifteen minutes of the second half to post the win going away.

Five different Raiders tallied in the match with Zach Rapaccioulo, Andrew Kraszewski, Jake LaFountain, Tyler Tesoriero, and Wyqui Agunda all finding the range for Mechanicville.

Jordan Brown scored the Cambridge goal late in the second half.

 

Tamarac 4  Stillwater 0:  Max Ali, Ethan Brown, Riley Hayner and Rocco DiCarlo all found the back of the net in the Bengals comfortable win over the Warriors.

Tamarac keeper Tyler Nemjo saved six shots for the shutout as the Bengals improve to 3-1, 6-1 on the year with the win.
