A full slate of action for girls soccer played out on the fields across the Wasaren Thursday afternoon as the regular season moves into it’s second half. The Warriors of Stillwater sit atop the league standings adding another “W” yesterday to remain unbeaten through nine outings.
Stillwater 11 Berlin 1: Seven different Warriors found the range as Stillwater coasted to the easy victory in Berlin.
Brooke Pickett with a hat trick, Keelyn Peacock with a pair of goals and three assists, and Devon Wagner with two scoring strikes led the Stillwater assault.

Stillwater 7 Tamarac 2: The high powered attack of the Warriors was on full display Tuesday night as Stillwater jumped out to a 6-1 lead at the half with five different players delivering scoring strikes.

Cambridge-Salem 57 Hoosick Falls 31: The matchup between a pair of unbeaten Class C teams saw Cambridge in control throughout as the Indians jumped out to a 24-6 lead early in the second period, extended their advantage to 28-18 at the half and cruised home with their third win of the season.

Greenwich 2 Hoosick Falls 1 OT: Faith Ingber took a Cate Abate feed and found the back of the net in overtime to give Greenwich the victory over the Panthers.
Ingber had assisted Abate for the Witches first goal in the match giving the host squad a 1-0 lead at the half, but an Olivia Brownell tally for the Falls after the break tied things at 1-1 setting up the game-winner by Ingber. Continue reading
Congratulations to Hoosic Valley’s cross country runner Carrie Burnell for being named this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.
In a three team meet on Tuesday Carrie won the girls race leading the Valley to wins over Mechanicville and Stillwater.
Burnell covered the 2.8 mile course in 18:29 to pace Hoosic Valley who had six of the first seven runners to cross the finish line.

It was a rough first week for all Section II football teams in Class D with every school absorbing a loss. Two of those teams met in Schaghticoke on Saturday when Warrensburg traveled south to take on Hoosic Valley. The first half was entertaining as the two squads put points on the board in a back and forth 24 minutes of football. After the break it was all Warrensburg and at game’s end the Burghers headed north with their first “W” of the season, a 34-14 decision over the Valley. Continue reading
