Blazing Five For Boys Basketball

With the Wasaren teams heading into the holiday break I thought it was a good time for our first Blazing Five of the basketball season where we’ll list the top five league players and teams in a variety of categories.  As we all know you can play with statistics and make them say what you’d like, but here are some numbers from the first four weeks of the roundball season.

Girls Basketball; Indians, Bengals Roll

There was a full slate of action for the Wasaren girls on the Wednesday before the holiday break, with just one game decided by less than 10 points.  Tamarac and Cambridge with wins stayed unbeaten in league play while Hoosic Valley, Mechanicville and Waterford posted “W’s” as well.

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Emily Erickson 18    Renna Poulin 8     Warriors – Peacock 6

Summary:  The Bengals held Stillwater to single numbers in each quarter, led this one 36-11 at the break and cruised the victory. Continue reading

Leading Scorers:  Indians – Renee Serafin 19 points     Emily Peckham 9 points        Saints – Ani Crocker 9 points

Key Stat:  Hoosic Valley held the Saints to single digits in each of the first three periods and put this one away with a 17-11 advantage in the final frame. Continue reading

Hoosic Valley Stops Greenwich

The Indians of Hoosic Valley used balanced scoring and their trademark man-man defense to take control early and cruised to the 47-25 victory over the visiting Witches from Greenwich.

The visitors led just once in the contest scoring the opening bucket before the Indians went on a 10-0 run over the remainder of the period with Renee Serafin’s four points leading the way. Continue reading

Mechanicville Tops The Valley

In a nice early season girls basketball matchup the Red Raiders defensive pressure proved to be the difference turning Hoosic Valley over throughout, paving the way for the 54-40 victory Wednesday night in Mechanicville.

With a good crowd on hand the two squads treated the fans to a fast paced first period. Raider guard Sammy Pasinella got things started, drilling a three from the top for half of her six points in the quarter. Continue reading

Wasaren Sportsnet’s Basketball Webcast Schedule

Here is the tentative schedule of basketball webcasts that Wasaren Sportsnet will broadcast this year.  Many thanks to Mechanicville and Hoosic Valley for allowing me to broadcast from their venues.

In the fall for our football webcasts we’ve been so fortunate to have New Country Toyota of Clifton Park, The Connor’s Agency,  Wiley Brothers, Bonnier’s, Legends Barbershop, Great American Opportunities. Tuesday Hoops; Valley Girls, Stillwater Boys Move to 3-0

A pair of Wasaren teams have started their respective basketball campaigns on a nice roll.  Both the Hoosic Valley girls and the Stillwater boys earned victories Tuesday night pushing their early season marks to 3-0.

The Waterford girls won on Tuesday as well, posting an overtime “W” in their season-opener. Continue reading
