A pair of Wasaren teams have started their respective basketball campaigns on a nice roll. Both the Hoosic Valley girls and the Stillwater boys earned victories Tuesday night pushing their early season marks to 3-0.
The Waterford girls won on Tuesday as well, posting an overtime “W” in their season-opener.
Hoosic Valley 32 Stillwater 21: The Indians held Stillwater to single digits in each of the first three periods, and used a 15 point third quarter to take control in the win over the Warriors.
Sam Lanoue paced the Valley attack with a game-high 14 points for the Indians who held a 12-5 lead at the half.
Marley Mueller scored nine points to lead Stillwater.
Waterford 45 New Lebanon 43 OT: Extra minutes were needed to decide things and the Fordians prevailed in overtime to notch the win in their first outing of the season.
Hannah Camfield led Waterford with 15 points, 10 coming from the free throw line, and Annelise Rebel added 12 points for the Fordians.
Aaliyah Stalker scored 16 points for New Lebanon who were able to convert only 2 of 19 free throws in the contest.
Stillwater 55 Hudson Falls 53: The Warriors used balanced scoring and long ball prowess to get past the Tigers in a non-league run on Tuesday.
Cooper Monast with 19 points, Scott Travis with 13, and Brian McNeil with 10 points led Stillwater who knocked down eight 3-balls and needed every one in a game that was close throughout.
